Tribex 500 & ZMA

According to the Tribex 500 label, the dosage is three pills once or twice per day on an empty stomach. According to the Biotest website, the dosage is as follows:

Dosing: Take 4 capsules of Tribex-500 with breakfast and 4 capsules 10-12 hours later with food or a protein shake.

I know that the dosage used to be four pills twice a day, and now it’s three pills twice a day (it was cool of TC to tell us about this). But does anyone know if Tribex 500 should be taken with food or not? Does it really matter?

Also, for ZMA, the website states:

Dosing: Take 3 capsules on an empty stomach as close to bedtime as possible. Since most athletes consume a protein snack right before going to bed, it’s best to take ZMA between the evening meal and the bedtime snack.

Since these pills should not be mixed with calcium, if my “bedtime snack” includes skim milk and cottage cheese, does anyone know how much time prior to this “snack” I can take the ZMA without inhibiting the absorption of the magnesium and the zinc? Thanks.

what I do is this… post workout/evening/dinner meal at around 8pm (maybe 20 mins later if its a gym day) then at around 9:30 take my zma. 10:30 take my before bed time protein, then go to sleep. Dream crazy long dreams about lesbians and running around and stuff. So aparently giving myself an hour between feedings containing calcium works well (for me at least) if deep sleep and mild strengh increase is an indication on effectiveness. Also I believe that I’ve read that only ZMA should be consumed on an empty stomach or at least without any calcium, rest of the biotest products don’t really require empty stomachnicity.

You can take Tribex with food, and I recommend it.

With ZMA, the sleep-enhancement effect might
be better on an empty stomach, but so far
as correcting any mineral deficiencies, I
would not worry about taking with other foods.
It’s only a question of percentage efficiency,
not a matter of being unable to absorb zinc at the same time as calcium (life on Earth has been absorbing both at the same time for billions of years, and Man has been doing it for as long as he’s been around.) I would in fact be more concerned about getting TOO MUCH
zinc with ZMA than too little due to taking with calcium. Look at your sources from zinc from other supplements you may be taking. If you’re already at a couple of hundred percent RDA, ZMA would probably be giving you excess zinc.

What about Vitex? when between cycles, i normally wake up, take my Vitex and ZMA, and then take Tribex about 1 and 1/2 hours later with a protein shake. Is this a good way to do things? And can you clarify why too much zinc is a bad thing?

Thanks for the help guys…Joe

Bill- I too would like to know the effects of too much zinc. I use alot of Designer Protein, and they include 3mg of Zinc Aspartme per 17.5g or protein. Could I be hurting myself if I’m using like 8 scoops a day?

whenever I’d take a bit too much zinc (like zinc in multi and stand alone zinc) maybe that’d be like 70mg of zinc I’d feel feel like throwing up. Guess you can test it on yourself and see how you feel, since I’m not dead yet I assume you won’t die either. I’ve stopped taking that much zinc tho for obvious reasons now just take multi twice a day and then zma in the evening. Spacing it out doesn’t make me sick even tho I take in more over the course of the day (tho multi has that scary calcium stuff in it).

Joel, yes, Vitex can be taken with food
and is probably better taken that way.
Almost everything is.

VCreed, 3 mg of zinc aspartate per scoop,
and 8 scoops per day, is fine if you’re
not also getting lots of zinc elsewhere.
The main disadvantage of too much zinc
is that it is a powerful pro-oxidant.

There is a simple test to see if you have adequate amounts of zinc or not. It was mentioned in a back issue of T-mag (I think it was a report from one of the scientific meetings). It is a liquid and called zinc status or zinc tally depending on which brand you buy. It is inexpensive and works well.
