mattd and restless - yeah, it’s pretty hard to get all the cals you need. I’m trying for 5400 per day while on Mag-10, and I basically have no complaints about eating that much, but the cost involved. DAMN getting big is costly. I had to really tweak the Massive Eating style diet I normally follow; I’m still doing P+C and P+F meals, for the most part, but usually 5 out of 8 are P+C. It’s just more convenient, for right now. I haven’t gotten on a scale or Tanita since last tuesday night, but this coming Wednesday I’m doing full measurement, so I’ll let everyone know.
Magnus, first off, congratulations on your progress, that sounds really amazing so far. Secondly, do me a favor and never come to my gym. You'd make me look like a bitch. Do you realize you're doing db presses with the equivalent of a small person...in each hand? That's so awesome bro. Congratulations again.
I finished my second week of tens yesterday; everyone is telling me I look a lot bigger, and I passed all of my maxes by at least two reps on every exercise, three reps on most. I attribute this to the mag ten. I can't wait until the fives. THEN I'll really get to grow. My diet is in order, so it's just a matter of keeping up the lifting and the eat. I'll keep you posted. Good luck everyone, and keep up the good work =)
Today was my first 15’s workout. I found out that i either overestimated the weights i could handle or lost strenght during decondicioning. If i lost strenght i could think of four reasons for this to happen: 1) I was sick, i had a persisting cold during these nine days . 2) Did to much cardio during decondicioning. 3) Dieted during decondicioning (i knew this probably wasn’t a good ideia). 4( I decondicion fastest than most people. Probably all contributed a little bit. I’ll see how my strenght progresses during this week.
About the workout itself, it was a hard workout. I end up doing just one set for each exercice, wich amounted to 11 sets in 40 minutes, including 10 minutes to warm up and stretch at the end. On a lot of the sets i only had one or two reps in me when i finished, if my strenght doesn’t come back quick i will lower the weights.
It’s obviously to soon to draw any conclusions about HST.
My weight is now 174 pounds at 12% after losing 6 pounds in the previous 3 weeks. I’m deliberatly overfeeding this week. let’s see how this goes.
Okay guys, finished the first workout of the fives yesterday, and decided to get on the scale a little bit ahead of schedule.
Six days into my Mag-10 cycle, I've gone from 170 to 183.5 pounds. Ten muscle, 3.5 fat, according to the Tanita comparisons of pre and post mag10. I am very pleased so far. I haven't taken measurements yet, but I'll keep you posted when I do. I'm hoping to hit 190, at about 10% or so, then cut to 7%. Hopefully this next week on Mag-10 should help a lot. Eating like a madman...5400 cal per day.
Me and my one friend started to do HST together about 2 weeks ago. He is 140 so he wants to get big. Unfortunately as I have told him, he needs to eat more but you know the high school guy mentality of ‘training is everything’…I’m sure he’ll make gains regardless though. Anyways, alot of guys came up to me in the past week and asked what workout I was doing because I am the only retard walking around with a paper writing stuff down. Well, word got around fast that there was this ‘magical’ training protocal that makes you bigger fast but surprisingly not much stronger. So as it turns out alot of people at my school will be doing it. 4000 cals a day for myself (from good foods). I love the training style, it is totally insane when we do HST. We move from excersize to excersize with little rest, sweating profusely. Not to mention how ridiculous taking 2 MD6 + 100mg caffiene is. I get so jacked up on this combo I drive like such an asshole to get to the gym. Anyways, Just thought all you HSTers out there would like to know there is yet another vain hypertrophy obsessed BBer out there! ~PorchDawg
Tomorow will be my second workout and i’ve decided to split my body in 2 workouts and train 6Xweek. I’ll do 9 sets per workout. As i have a lot of free time right now this seemed like a good idea.
Restless, I’ll be curious to know how your 6x/wk split will feel. I’m feeling limited doing whole body 3x/wk – exhasted and not enough specialization on weak parts. Look forward to hearing your about your progress and if recovery time was enough. Good health.
I will post later this week how i’m feeling with this split. It seems a good ideia, you get a post workout “window of oportunity” daily were i can pig out on the carbs and fart like crazy the rest of the day (anyone get this from carbs also?). Bryan has said in the think muscle forum that this is ok as long as you keep the volume low and respect the HST principles.
For the record, here is the routine i’m doing:
Day one:
Squats X1
Barbell hack squats X1
Calf raises on leg press X2
Barbell bench press X1
Incline bench press X1
Military press X2
Triceps pulldown X1
Day 2
SLDL X1
Leg curl X1
Tibiallis on leg press X2
Row on pulleyX1
Pulldown X1
Barbell biceps curl X1
Shrugs X1
Abs x1
It’s nine sets per workout. I’ll be eating 4000 kcals a day, sleepimg 8 to 9 hours and won’t do much more…
Well, it happened today, injury! Strained my upper back and neck doing BB upright rows – last exercise, last set, about fourth rep. It is not severe, basically just locked in spasm right now. This has been one of my concerns with full body training. I do 11 exercises total to get basic coverage but now the the weight is beginning to go up (currently doing 10’s)it makes a routine that long tiring and stressful. I think I will have to split the workout am/pm if I am to continue safely. Now I’m off to ice down then get in a hot tub and finish with a massage.
Mattd, how many sets are you doing per exercice? I’m finding it quit dificult to perform a second set for a bodypart with a weight close to my maximum, i had to stop before hiting 15 to avoid going to failure.
I do 2 sets at most and I don’t push to failure. I like to hit 2 sets on compound moves and 1 or 2 on isolation moves depending how I feel. I’m thinking since I’m trying to up calories and getting more protein as a consequence I may be a little dehydrated which could contribute to the spasm I’m having. I will be able to finish the cycle but will “listen” to my body a little more closely. I’m still thinking splits are the way to go. I should add in case anyone asks, I do warm up and I stretch pre and post workout. Also, on a positive note I’m starting to see some definition in my lats and traps, subtle but encouraging. Everything else looks the same. Finally, as I’m approaching lower reps I’m considering the wisdom of altering Sqauts and Dead lifts to avoid possible low back problems – I don’t want any spasms there.
Okay guys, first week of the 5s is complete. I’m tipping the scales at 190.1, so I’m pretty happy. Almost all muscle, too. I’ve made some changes to my program so I can get this most from my mag-10 cycle. Let me know what you think.
First thing: as I've mentioned previously, I do my workout in a circuit fashion, and do the circuit twice. What I've been doing for the last week is splitting it into an AM circuit and a PM circuit. Hell, I got the time, might as well use it.
Next, I changed some of the movements during the second circuit so that I can work each muscle a different way. For quads, I'm doing leg extensions and leg press; for hams stiff leg deads and leg curls; and so forth. That way I get to work my muscles in accordance with different functions of said muscle.
I've seen incredible growth so far, but it's really hard for me not to grab my bottle of MD6 and start cutting. I really want to see what all this new muscle looks like! I could use a little advice on how to move smoothly into a cutting cycle, if anyone has any. I've got 1.5 bottles of MD6, 1 bottle of T2-Pro, 1 bottle of Methoxy-7, and almost a full bottle of Mag-10 left. Any ideas? Thanks for all the help and support, all =)
Today i finished my first week of HST. I’m up 4.4 pounds, wich is probably mostly water and glycogen weight since i was cutting for the 3 weeks previous to starting this.
My strenght as also up, i did 18 resps with my previous 15 rep maximum on bench press, and could have done at least one more but i didn’t have a spotter.
The 6Xweek split feels great, my workouts are taking 20 minutes to complete (plus 15 minutes warm up, strech) and are done circuit style. Today i finished my workout nauseated, couldn’t even finish my post workout drink because i was afraid to puke. I’m having somewhat ambiguos (is this spelled right?) feelings about this particular aspect, i kind of like it though i felt sick!
Well I’m off the program, at least temporarily. Seems my strained muscle is a little worse than I thought. I can’t turn or flex my neck without sharp pain and one of the muscles that attaches underneath my left scapula is swollen. It limits my workouts so much (I tried) that I think its better to just rest it for several days and see how it feels. When I return I will definitely modify my program. Wish the rest of you continued success.
Can anyone explain me how do you bump a thread that doesn’t show on anyof the previous pages?
I’ll also do a prgress report. I’m now on the end of the second week of my second HST cycle, after aborting my first one at week 5 and doing 12 days decondicioning. So far i gained 6.6 pounds (4 on these 2 weeks and the rest on previous cycle).
I also found that the calories i was consuming before are not enough to grow properly on HSt (maybe due to metabolism aceleration caused by full body workouts?) so i bumped the caloreis to 4600 a day, on a 25p, 35c, 35f split.
All in all i relly like HSt, i particulary like full body workouts. I don’t see myself going back to plit routines anytime soon.
Correction: I gained 4 kilos untill now, so it’s 8.8 pounds total, half in these 2 weeks the rest in the first cycle. I also forgot to say that i just started to suplement with creatine, so i’m probably gaining some water weight.
Had to cut my last HST short at the 4 week mark, but just re-tested my maxes this week, and everything was up at least 10 lbs. I start next week, going with a diet of about 500 above maintenence. I may go with a 4 week Androsol stint when I start the 10’s. Feelin’ strong!
