What’s your training for back like? Something to work on for next time for sure. Me and you both
Hey Grind. Yep, back will definitely be a major focus for me going forward! Definitely lacking thickness and detail. I think I’d benefit from a bit more volume for back training. Before prep my training had been pretty high frequency for back, but not a lot of volume. So maybe 3 days per week I’d have a row and a vertical pull variation, but I think I’d like to add a back specific day
Hey guys, update! A few days before I competed in men’s physique, I actually decided to enter the Natural Mr. and Ms. Minnesota, a pro-qualifier which was held this past weekend on May 24 in Bloomington, Minnesota. At this point my goal was still to win my men’s physique pro card, so I wanted to take another shot at it in case I didn’t win at the Heartland. After getting the feedback that I did after the show last weekend and realizing doing well in physique wasn’t in the cards, my coach convinced me to change my entry in the Minnesota to bodybuilding. I entered the show without really any expectations, not sure how I’d stack up, but Brian assured me I would be competitive. I entered the collegiate division, the novice division, and the open. I ended up winning both the collegiate tall and novice tall classes, and placed 3rd in open tall! There were 8 competitors in my collegiate class, 11 in my novice class, and 12 in my open class. I’ll post stage shots when I get them hopefully in the next few days
im very surprised the judges thought you were “too lean”
that being said… typically, as I understand it, if you are competing in a natural show, and the judges think that you are unnatural (you are bigger/leaner than everyone else by a wide margin) they will penalize you heavily

I’m with you on not thinking I’m “too lean” if there’s even such a thing haha! I definitely could push my conditioning further. I will say though that I disagree about judges placing competitors lower if they believe they’re not natural. While a few judges might do that, a judge’s job is to judge the competitors that are in front of them. It’s the job of the polygraph and the urinalysis to catch cheaters, not the judges, as imperfect as those tests are. I think most judges will judge fairly even though they may wish they could mark down a suspected user

Trent, wondering how you counted greens in your diet. Were they free?
Brian has me track green veggies just like any other food. In my offseason I won’t track them, but I always will during contest prep. I figure you may as well control every variable that you can!
Now that’s more like it -lol. Congrats brother. Looking forward to some photos!

^This. I’ve been on a few judging panels where a certain competitor easily gets the nod for his class, and then we joke among ourselves about just how they plan on passing the drug test.
(Faulted as some may feel it is, all you can do is trust the means you’ve got.)

Yes x3
You’ve done something incredible in being able to achieve a level of conditioning that a lot of people will never achieve. Good work, only good things for the future

I missed this completely! Congratulations mate! I’m really pleased for you. What a massive lift that must have been after the previous weekend
