2 HIIT sessions per week, 7 intervals of :30 on, :90 off followed by 15 min cool down. I do the intervals on the bike and the cool down on the treadmill at an incline. I think the bike sprints might be improving my quads a bit, like what Grind experienced during his prep
Very similar to what I am doing (15 x 15 on 30 off). Yeah the bike sprints deff give my legs a pumped feeling (different then cardio on a treadmill or outside). I am assuming you are experiencing the same thing.
Yes! The pump is nasty haha, that’s why I get off the bike for my cool down, it hurts to keep pedaling lol. We both have a lot of room for our coaches to add in cardio, so that’s a good thing

Damn, extremely lean Trent. Definitely looks like you’ll be able to reverse diet into the show!
Thanks Kev, that’s the goal!

You training with TSG? I take it you are enjoying their guidance?
Yes! If you follow TSG on Facebook, they posted a transformation picture of me a few days ago, incredibly coaches and great guys. I see you’re from Alberta, do you know Jason?

I actually only know Jon through powerlifting. Seems like they have provide intelligent, well grounded training and dieting advice. I look forward to seeing where they take you!

Looking lean brother. Keep it up. Just caught myself up on this thread.
How much lower ab work do you do? Just curious as for constructive criticism you seem to be lacking mid to lower ab development.
I’m starting to have the same concern about my lower an development, I think i focused too much on upper ab movements this offseason and not enough leg raises, etc. I still have a decent amount of fat that I can pinch on my lower ab area though that doesn’t really show in the pictures, so I’m hoping after I tighten up a bit more there will be more cuts there. Thanks for stopping in Bauber
No problem brother glad to see how far you have come. And it looks like your lower abs are coming in as others have said with a little more fat loss.
Although I will say I had no idea how much training abs hard can help in the overall tightness and look once you lean down until I started doing them consistently even in the off season.

Gotcha, Jon is an absolute freak! Thanks for the mind words man, hope you stop back in the thread from time to time
I’ve gotta say, HIIT is really starting to suck. I’ve got 7 30 second bursts twice a week at the moment, and I do it as bike sprints with the hopes of keeping my quads full. My training is still going great, plenty of energy, but having to really find motivation for the bike sprints. I hate to have to use others as motivation, but looking around me and seeing people reading magazines on the bike next to me or some bro at 20% bf walking on a treadmill getting ready for spring break helps me want to see how hard I can push myself
Any thoughts from your experience on seat height / leg angle for maximum quad pump?
I was thinking a higher seat so your legs are straighter at the bottom ROM?
I did some sprints on the bike today and felt it in my glutes just as much as my quads (not that that’s necessarily a problem, but I have more trouble getting my quads lean so I wanted to shift the focus to my quads), but I think my seat position was fairly low.

That’s an interesting point, Tim. I’ve actually thought about that myself and tinkered with the seat height, and I definitely get a better (more painful) pump in my quads with a lower seat height to where the ROM during my pedaling is smaller. I think this keeps the quads in the flexed position where they’re doing almost all the work for the duration of the sprint. That’s been my experience at least
Looking good man! I’m still schocked at how lean you’re gettting with the amount of carbs you’re still eating. I’m doing a carb cycle type diet with 100 or less on my low days. I can’t wait to try your approach in my next prep…sounds like alot more fun. I’m sure it plays a big role in keeping your strength up and hitting new PRs. Great job!

Ha, ha, the oppositive of what I thought. I was actually googling it and finding the same thing. Some website claim more quad activity with a high seat and some with a low seat. I guess I need to play around.

I found the same thing as pwolves. Shorter heigh = more pump on bike sprints. I chalked it up to not letting the muscle fully stretch (even during the coast period) so it was always under tension. almost like doing only the middle portion of a biceps curl.

Thanks Grizzly! Looks like I will be adjusting it down 1 notch at a time until I find that sweet spot.
Conditioning’s coming along slowly but surely. Here’s a still shot from posing practice last night, some striations showing up. Weekly update tomorrow, thanks guys
8 weeks out update: Weight stayed at right around 180 all week. Brian reduced my carbs by 10 on low days and fat by 5 g, so low days are now 320 c, 65 f, 250 p.
