Trayvon Martin Pt. 2 'The Legacy'

Tats aren’t even viewed as negative at all now and don’t even stop most job interviews like it may have in the 1950’s-60’s.

That is the point…this is all a CULTURAL issue and those who see it less seem to have very static unchanging views of how “negative” it is.

I see sagging pants all damn day long on too many people to think like this.

I just want to know why River Oaks? Why not Cypress,TX? The middle/working class?

I see no one is jumping to tell me what made that man a thug in that picture.

Asking again to those who can carry on good discussions.

What makes this man a THUG like was posted before?

There is something about certain people that when confronted with police they choose to lose their mind. I don’t get it.

We were at a party and the cops came by, the house was on the town line so the first set of cops couldn’t do anything except talk to kids and tell them to stop. Everyone was nice to these guys.

20 mins later the cops that could actually arrest people showed up and everyone lost their collective minds. People started throwing bottles, kids got beat & arrested… It was ugly.

It honestly depends on the situation. I have gotten an attitude (within reason) with a cop before because I felt his reason for even stopping me was uncalled for and possibly racist profiling alone.

He stopped me for no reason at all and asked me (a grown man at the time) why I was out so late on Westheimer…which if anyone knows is anything but dead at almost any time of the night aside from maybe Monday and Tuesday.

That is why I mentioned it here because I could see minorities seeing calling the cops at all as a “racist” thing to do when no crime was actually being committed that couldn’t be extinguished with an “excuse me”.

I don’t know that the contention is that it MAKES him a thug, but, right wrong or indifferent, that style of dress isn’t going to make a very good first impression on a lot of people.

My friends aren’t going to look twice. (Outside of wondering if the gym shorts, being slick material, aren’t the best choice as wouldn’t they just make the pants slide down faster?) The people I work for and with are going to see someone trying to portray a “fuck you bitch” attitude through dress…

I’ve been asked that before. Was searched on the side of the road for walking down the street. Their reason was because it was dark, and I had a backpack on.

I had fallen asleep at this chicks house, failing to get any, and had a pipe on me. I wasn’t a dick to them (because I didn’t want to get my ass kicked), but made it quite well known I would fight because the search wasn’t legal in my mind. Walking down the street isn’t a crime.

Was also asked that when we were pulled over. He was fishing for a DUI I assume.

shrug

Neither do tattoos…but people aren’t usually reaching for 911 when they see those any more.

That goes back to how I dress at an interview vs how I dress walking down the street in my own neighborhood.

I don’t see this as “thug”…because it is too common in my community. Too many people I know who are NOT thugs dress like this…so it never comes up.

Would I hire someone who dressed like that ON THE JOB? No…but this isn’t about that.

It is about why some people see this as CRIMINAL and VIOLENT.

He has a lighter complexion so people are confused. They think he might be Italian.

Yep. Whether he is a thug or not is largely irrelevant to this discussion.

Fact is, that dress style is associated with thuggishness, right or wrong.

Same goes for scantily clad women - you dress a certain way and people will judge you for it.

Just accept it and play along.

I am wondering if he was smiling carrying a “Calculus III” textbook if he would still be a THUG.

It is funny how no one seem to be defending that comment now.

Don’t expect a non-Engineer to think rationally. It’s the reason we are never considered for jury duty.

just get back to the FEA and make sure that you don’t have more than a 10% jump in the VonMises stresses between elements.
Exhibit A. Didn’t you finally get laid like last year?
NOPE

reveal a little about yourself?

or maybe not peter rabbit, go back in your hole.
What does that even mean? Okay, maybe it was two years ago but I distinctly recall you crowing about waiting into your twenties and now you had the woman of your dreams. The point is you don’t have much experience to be handing out advice. Oh thats right, you are an engineer, they know everything.

Edited: "I was a virgin when I first started reading that thread and then lost it shortly after (thank you AC and some others that I can’t remember), coincidence? Maybe

First kiss: 21
Lost virginity: 22
Now: 25 and my gf is moving in with me in 3 weeks"
wow, you are keeping really good track of me I’m flattered.

LOL, experience is just another name for mistakes and I’ve made plenty.

Get a BS in Mechanical Engineering and then tell me what you don’t know, I’ll wait here patiently.

everyones got a story to tell.

Most guys don’t have the balls to tell it.

Do you?

Have you every asked all these people who aren’t thugs why they dress like that? Does it help them get jobs? Does it help with the job they have? Or possibly are they trying to look like the thugs they idolize/grew up around?

dress like quincy milktoast
carry your Multivariable calculus book (newest edition)
groom your hair.

all this shit doen’t matter.

It comes down to body language PERIOD!

Please describe to me Trayvaughns Body language that day…

I already know it is because it is STYLE AND A TREND.

Uh, most of the guys I know who dress like that have jobs. They just don’t sag “as much” on the job.

I doubt most people in this area of Houston would call that “thug” if they see it…because it is too common.

That is why so many see calling the cops as “the safe call to make” in all situations.
Thats because, according to the statistics posted by DB Cooper, we have to be weary of black people.

Hold on, let me do it for you…

RACISM

White people. Black people. Everyone.

Its hilarious that you think white people cant look at other white people and profile them in the same manner.

Find a post where it was explicitly stated that dressing like a thug or a slut MAKES…FUCKING KEY WORD…MAKES a person look like a thug. Then maybe that guy can answer you.
