However, how do you know that the actual vs. the perceived is significantly different, huh? Are you really trying to infer that every single black person who committed a crime against a white person was caught while nearly 380,000 whites got away with their crimes against a black individual?

Or we could use this thread as a way to positively discuss solving race relation problems in America. It could also be better served as a thread for tweaking our gun laws so tragedys like this dont happen again. Not sure all the time we spent on the shit show that was part 2 really helped anyone. The Trayvon case is over we all know how it ended but where we go from here is whats now the important thing. Weather we like it or not this case was a giant step backwards for the USA, both on race and gun laws.

His firearm was legally obtained. Guns laws do not need to change. Maybe a more in depth background check but illegal guns will always find a way into criminals’ hands. Look at exhibit A, Chicago.

Why would the gun laws need to change?
A man legally obtained a gun and, as far as anyone knows for sure, used it in self defense against someone who was attacking him and potentially could have killed him.
Seems like the law worked perfectly.
It’s sad that a 17 year old died (age seems to be the biggest sticking point) but a 17 year old can kill you by bashing your head into the concrete just as easily as a 22 or 25 year old.
Sure defending yourself is one thing but the current FL and some other staes "Stand your ground laws makes no execption for being the aggressor in a confrontation. I think that now that this use of the law happened people in stand your ground states can manipulate the law to dispose of people they dont like. If you start a confrontation with someone end up loosing you can use deadly force. The end result is in a SYG state to level the playing field everyone needs to be armed. Great for the NRA and gun companys maybe thats what they wanted.
If that happens its like the wild west we might as well settle our difference with draws at high noon. Als Im saying is people will start to abuse the law now that the law has showcased its loophole. So something should be done to prevent people abusing the law for vendettas and personal disputes before people start dying.

What does this have to do with TM shooting? Since it has not been proven otherwise, TM was the one that started the confrontation by breaking the first law that night. I think you are assuming it was GZ which was not the case or at least the best we know with the limited information.

Actually, if you get the CNN footage of the Police Chief who was fired because he thought that all evidence supported a straight case of self defense, ‘Stand your ground’ didn’t factor in at all. It’s another matter (that is on the books of Fla law) that I assume probably got knocked around in media outlets when they first started discussing it. However, it wasn’t an issue in terms of what transpired the night in question. All forensics as well as the play by play 911 call support the fact that Martin approached Zimmerman who only left his car when he could no longer see where the unrecognizable individual went, and the police had yet to respond. After walking well away from the vicinity of GZ’s car, TM turned around and instead of going into his father’s girlfriend’s home which was a mere 40 ft away, approached GZ who was now standing in the street, still on the phone with 911 and looking to report where the hooded figure had gone. Standing you ground doesn’t apply when someone attacks you.
And for the record, this entire this was a horrible tragedy, but no one should go around voicing their opinions on what they think occurred unless they have watched all of the courtroom video and are fully aware of just how the evidence actually sounds.
