Travel Knife?

i am going on a cruise this summer to the mediteranean region and i never travel without some form of lethal protection. when i went to eastern europe, i didnt bring any knives but i bought one in each city i went to to make sure i always had something (cool souvenirs too). But since i will have less time in the cities i am going to this summer i want a knife at all times.

I have been looking at the Nightshade series by cold steel and also at thos knives disguised as usable pens. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good knife which is easy to bring into action and somewhat inexpensive, or better defense alternatives. I am under 18 so guns are out of the question.

You’re an idiot.

I just travelled throughout Europe.

I hit the Czech Republic (both Prague itself and outside the main city in Praha 4).

I hit the Med as well (Malta).

You don’t carry weapons you dipshit.

Now I know why no locals liked me until I said ‘I’m Australian not American.’.

I took a pocket knife with me if that counts.

This all sounds like an excellent way to get arrested.

Thirded.

What the fuck do you need a knife for on a cruise?

You told him not to carry weapons and then you said you carried one. Rather ironic.

I would think a knife would not be necessary on a cruise.

Unless something terrible happened and the OP had to fight off the dreadful spindly killer fish.

(7.643 points to anyone who gets the reference)

OP - Don’t be daft. I know what Spry meant about the pocket knife, it’s a useful tool to have when journeying but if anything, if you really must take something I’d suggest taking a multitool that has a blade in it too.

I don’t know where you’ll be stopping but I went on a cruise round the Med many years ago and most definitely did not need any sort of weaponry to feel safe.

Even when visiting Jerusalem and Morocco, both beautiful but very intense places.

The chances of anything bad happening are minimal and if they did, believe me, you’d need a lot more than a knife.

Having said that, sure, take one with you, get caught with it and see the delights of a Moroccan jail. They are an experience that will live with you for the rest of your life.

I have been all over South East Asia unarmed with no problems. And that includes some of the rougher parts of Manila and Bangkok. You don’t need a weapon and you don’t want to have to try and explain why you have one. The best way to prevent yourself from becoming a victim is to not act like a victim and also make sure you are situationally aware. Forget about the knife.

Oh, Zap. Don’t pick a fight over this. You know very well what I meant.

I carried a pocket knife in my backpack like all good boy scouts.

I didnt carry it on my person as a weapon.

I never used the blade if you wanted to know. Just the bottle opener.

Would that be because that’s the average sentence if you get caught there? Or the permenant anal damage from all the butt rapings?

The only excuse I can think of for carrying a non-pocket style knife is something like scuba diving where it’s considered a piece of the equipment and if you carry it around when not diving, then again, you’re a fucking idiot.

Actually, I’ve been thinking about it, and you should take a machette.

One less idiot in the world to worry about.

When I’m home and outside my house, I always am armed with something that can be used lethally. Just because this guy is traveling as a tourist doesn’t mean he is immune from violence. While traveling with a weapon may be inconvenient, it’s not impossible. Think about having a dual purpose item like a belt with a heavy buckle or a pen like a Cold Steel Sharkie.

Hell, if you’re talking about dual purpose items, I’m always armed with a pair of size 12 walking boots, two knees, two elbows, two fists, a fairly solid forehead and, in a pinch, a half decent set of teeth.

Is it any wonder why America is so fucked up if that’s the prevailing attitude of it’s citizens…?

And Dublin is a model example of a city in a third world country. I’ve never seen such a indigenous population in drunken disarray. The best looking, most well behaved people in Dublin clubs are the tourists or the eastern European help.

this thread is silly. and most Americans don"t advocate carrying a knife. we advocate carrying assault weapons with bayonets and grenade launchers.

Good thing your whole body is a lethal weapon. Did you turn your knives in during the “Knife Amnesty”?

Are you seriously suggesting a weapon would be needed on a CRUISE AROUND THE MEDITERRANEAN?
