Transformation for Arnold Amateur Comp

Hello fellow iron warriors, I have been reading and following this site since 1998/99. I am wanting to compete at the Arnold expo for amateur super heavy. I am 6’5" 260 in the current photo, and i was 300 in my fat ass picture. Six months so far to get here doing it slow and right, and not dropping 50 pounds in four months like i usually do.

Anyway tell me like it is fellas, but please no comments from teen age noobs with no real experience. I’ll get full body shots to add if it sparks and interest.

If you want honest feedback you will need to post shots that include legs and some actual posing shots.

It’s impossible to give real feedback off just an abs picture.

Ditto. Basically you’ve shown that you can be an “after” photo for trimspa or whatever but without actually posing and full body pics no one can assess your strengths or weaknesses…

Some of those guys in super heavy spots are competing at 260lbs at 5’11".

You look great, but with all due respect, not what I would expect for amat super heavy.

Defnitely in decent shape, but at 6’5, and 260 lbs,… boy, with that as your starting point, you may end up on the lanky side if you go super-heavy,… of course if you go heavy, you may come across looking really thin.

Put up some posing pics and we’ll see.

congrats on coming down this far.

Hard to say. For example I could be 12% bf and have the same definition. That doesn’t mean you would be 12% by DEXA, but it suggests it’s possible you could be.

In which case you might need to lose 18 lb of fat or so, and I have no way of knowing how much LBM you might lose in the process. Let’s say 10 lb (could be way off.) Let’s say you drop 10 lb of water as well.

So maybe you would need to be coming in at around 220.

That would be at the very bottom of super heavyweight would it not?

Perhaps you should try the heavyweight class.

Coincidentally I just had a post explaining how this cannot be accurately guessed, and I’m not saying that 220 is necessarily right. It could be well off. But if it does happen to be about right, it wouldn’t bode well for your chances in super heavyweight.

Have you seen the competition from this “amateur” show?

I really think you should find a much smaller local show to get your feet wet and get into contest shape and worry about your weight class when you get there… don’t set your sights on SHW if you really need to be 10 lbs lighter to get lean enough.

My post kind of sounds negative, but I want you to have a more positive experience… congrats on the weight loss thus far.

x2 your height is going to be a disadvantage…sucks but it’s the truth.

The arnold classic amateur is one of the hardest amateur shows so keep that in mind.

I do think it’s awesome you want to compete tho.

Some full body shots in the mandatories will give us enough to critique you.

This is the problem with height:

If another competitor is the same weight but much shorter, there is only one way this can be. Necessarily, his girths are greater. He is thicker.

Let’s say his relative proportions within his body are like yours in every way, just so as to be comparing apples with apples. So for example this means his arms, and everything else, measure larger than yours if he is shorter but weighs the same. Not as lengthy, but greater in girth, to give same weight.

As if that isn’t bad enough, not only will the eye pick up that his arms, legs, chest etc are bigger around, but they will automatically compare with his height. Even if your measurements were the SAME as his, you’d look not as thick, as the eye is judging relative to greater height. But it’s worse than this: it is smaller girths on a taller frame.

That is by no means to discourage you from competing, but to make clear what is being faced. It is among the reasons that a high level national amateur contest may not be the optimal choice for first contest to enter.

To clarify… the picture I posted is of the guy who won the SHW and overall last year Tarek Elsetouhi. And I put amateur in quotes because a lot of these guys are pros in other countries that are just not recognized by the IFBB.

Very true. To be at that level, the OP would have to be closer to 300lbs in the same condition. That takes taller lifters several years longer to accomplish. Toney Freeman was hitting close to his 40’s by the time he had gained enough mass to look that filled out.
