Training with the Flu

ain’t gonna happen. Had the flu since Sunday. Plus it’s snowing here.

Sometimes its better to take time off. Hope you feel better soon.

It couldn’t have come at a worse time. I had this same crap last year and lost 10 pounds. I’ll be weak as hell by the time it’s over. That’s what I get for not taking a flu shot.

At least it sounds like you really have the flu…not just a sissy ass cold - don’t worry you’ll be back to normal in no time.

Hope your well soon ironman! I had it last week, headache, fever, vomiting. Took nearly a week to get my strength back, and I lost 6 pounds. BTW, I had a flu shot, obviously didn’t do a thing for this bug.

Flu shots don’t generally do anything for you but give you some sort of flu. And put money in the pockets of companies that sell flu shots.

As far as I know there is no broad-spectrum vaccine for flu viruses. There’s too many types. Your best defense is a strong immune system, lots of vitamin D and enough rest so the virus can’t take hold. Taking glutamine at the onset can help boost the immune system as well.

Off-Shift workers have it roughest in the winter.

Off shift, that’s me. I’ve worked graveyard for almost thirty years and up until last year I rarely got sick and then it usually lasted only a couple of days. My wife has taken the shot for the past two years and I’ve coughed all over her and she has drank after me(against my advice)and she still hasn’t gotten sick.

I read this post Monday and was jinxed.

Not quite the flu, but my temp was 100F last night and 101F the night before. I felt it coming Monday, so I trained knowing I could get at least one day in.

Runs this morning, how I usually finish these 48hr type illnesses. If no fever tonight I will go Thursday and Saturday.
