Training With Ed Coan

Once my conditioning cycle is over, I’m considering running Matt Kroc’s 12 week leg program for my high-bar squats. Call me crazy, but it sounds fun and challenging.

You’re a madman!

3 December 2012 - Squats & Deadlifts

Warm-up

  1. PVC roll everything
  2. Stretching
  3. More stretching

Squats

2 X 5 X 135
1 X 5 X 185
1 X 3 X 225
1 X 1 X 260

Deadlifts
2 X 5 X 135
1 X 3 X 225
1 X 1 X 275
2 X 8 X 315* PR.

NOTES: Easy as well. I’ve pulled 315 without a belt for 5 before, but this was with a belt, so I’ll take it.

Underhand T-Bar Rows
3 X 10 X 2 plates

V-Bar Low Cable Rows/Wide-grip Lat Pulldowns
2 X 12 X 160/2 X 8 X 140

ENDING NOTES: Not a bad workout. Squats and deadlifts felt easy. Eddie said my squats were looking strong, so I’m making more progress. Cardio bright and early tomorrow.

Put off my homework for a couple of hours so I could watch the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Sooooo worth it.

Was your shoulder the reason you used the Smith machine?

No, Eddie just had us use it as a change of pace. I got a way better contraction out of it.

CS

I’m really surprised that that Ed has you doing so much ‘bodybuilding’ type assistance work. I can’t think of any powerlifters offhand that do quite as much assistance like that.

Yeah there aren’t too many out there that do it like we do. His style of assistance work is what gave him a pretty awesome physique to go along with his awesome numbers.

CS

Sounds like a win-win!

I’ve got a job interview at 5 tonight. I had one yesterday with the same place and apparently they liked me so much that they’re giving me a second one. Will report back with the news after I come home.

Also, no cardio this morning because my car battery is dead. Not cool.

Got the job. Solid.

CS

Congrats on the job. What sort of stuff’ll you be doing?

LOL at not being able to go walk because your car wouldn’t start :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s some pretty legit shit man. Paused close-grips are no joke. I only just started doin em and training more Ed Coan style. Good couple sets pal.

Congrats and good luck with the job!

I’ll be a host at T.G.I. Friday’s. And yeah, my car battery actually died after my first interview (Thursday), so that kinda sucked, but I took my dad’s truck to this one today.

Eh, not really compared to what I’ve done before. These felt really slow for some reason. I’ve done 260 for a triple before and 280 for a single, so this is “light,” but thanks anyways.
