Training With Ed Coan

Lol thanks, boys. I just got off work and she wants me to come over now, so I will report back later.

Tuesday, June 19, 2012 - Sugarwalls Attempt: Part I

Well, I didn’t rush anything tonight. Testing the waters for tomorrow. Nothing outrageous happened…

yet.

She told me not to hold back next time. Let the games begin.

Haha I can’t miss a chance to make fun of the two people I hate most in this world: Hillary Clinton, and Nicholas Cage.

Wednesday, June 20, 2012 - Squat Day

Warm Up

 1. Lots of stretching
 2. Band work
 3. Cried over my missing PVC

Back Squat
2 X 6 X 135
1 X 3 X 185
1 X 3 X 225
1 X 1 X 260
1 X 1 X 295
1 X 3 X 330* FAIL. Was supposed to get 5.
1 X 5 X 330* PR. Never done it before.

NOTES: This heat plus a lack of food over the past week is starting to affect my strength. Felt like complete horse shit after these.

Banded Leg Press
1 X 10 X 135
1 X 10 X 225
1 X 10 X 225 + Light Bands
1 X 10 X 315 + Light Bands
1 X 10 X 405 + Light Bands

NOTES: Ed wasn’t there, so I had some freedom. I’m guessing the bands added about 100 lbs. at the top.

Chest-supported Rows
4 X 8 X 2 plates

Wide-grip Lat Pulldowns
3 X 12 X 140

Followed by death.

ENDING NOTES: Finished my workout with a 10 minute circuit of sprawling out on the floor dry heaving because I felt like such shit. Heat + 1 meal + heavy squats = death. I seriously wanted to die. It’s the shitty workouts like these that make everything count and everything worth it. Gonna eat like a hog for the rest of the day.

CS

No sugarwalls PR tonight, unfortunately. There wasn’t any privacy! Gonna have to come back next week.

CS

Indeed. It’s all good man, congrats on improving your performance after only getting 3 @ 330 initially, it’s very tough to do that mentally on squats.

Friday, June 22, 2012 - Shoulders

Warm Up

 1. Lots of stretching
 2. Rotator cuff

Strict Overhead Press
2 X 5 X 45
1 X 5 X 95
1 X 3 X 115
1 X 5 X 135

NOTES: Fuck it. Decided to call it here. Original plan was to do 5 X 5 with 135 today, but my shoulder is being a bitch. I’ve decided to ditch the OHP for a while until my shoulder feels better. I don’t think I’ll be missing it too much.

High Incline Dumbbell Press
1 X 20 X 45s
1 X 12 X 65s
1 X 12 X 70s
1 X 12 X 75s

NOTES: These felt ten times better than the OHP. Gonna use this as my main lift. Maybe I’ll go heavy for 5s or 3s next week. Not sure. Probably going to keep it bodybuilding style for now until the meet. I think that if I went with the regular angle for dumbbell military press, it would’ve hurt my shoulder. Plus, the high incline burns more, so hey, whatever salts my steak.

Dumbbell Lateral Raises
1 X 12 X 20s
2 X 12 X 25s

EZ Bar Front Raises
3 X 12 X 50

Face Pulls
3 X 15 X 50

Reverse Dumbbell Flyes
3 X 12 X 20s

ENDING NOTES: Pretty good day. I think by getting rid of the OHP, my shoulder(s) will thank me and so will my bench. Gonna add in the light bench day like I’m supposed to (according to Ed) instead of the OHP and then go straight into high incline dumbbell presses. Sounds like a better idea to me. Plus, it’ll give me a chance to work on my form more.

Went to the commercial gym today, so no oppressive heat (thank God). Got more food in me, so that definitely helped, too. Body weight is down to 190, but strength and measurements are still the same. Probably losing some more fat because of the heat. Damn Chicago summers. Oh well, gotta stay lean for teh womenz.

GAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I’m currently trying to decide what the hell it is I am going to do about this girl. She keeps sending me mixed signals and I’m kind of like boyfriend #2 right now considering she’s “with” this other guy while she’s “with” me at the same time. Well, I should say that she’s with me while she’s with this other guy. I came in after the other guy.

If only there was a sub-forum where you could discus your situation…

Will be interesting to see how the speed/light day goes for you, it’s an appealing option imo

Lol. I don’t feel like getting flamed.

I think the light day will help.

I also want to ask the Hodge twins, but I don’t know how to send them an email, it doesn’t give an address.

They have so many videos, would be surprised if they haven’t covered it

Saturday, June 23, 2012 - Back & Biceps

Warm Up

 1. Lots of stretching
 2. Shoulder stuff

Pull Ups
1 X 13 X BW* +1 rep PR.
4 X 5 X BW +10 lbs.

NOTES: These felt hard today for some reason.

Wide-grip Lat Pulldowns
1 X 12 X 50
1 X 12 X 60
1 X 12 X 70

NOTES: Kept the range of motion short and didn’t let my arms fully extend, keeping my lats under constant tension. Sweet pump from these.

Neutral-grip Low Rows
1 X 12 X 50
2 X 12 X 60

NOTES: Focused on hitting the lower lats this time, so I pulled it to about my belly button and it really lit them up. Held for a one count at the top and really stretched at the bottom.

EZ Bar Curls
1 X 12 X 45
1 X 10 X 50
1 X 8 X 55
1 X 6 X 60

Dumbbell Pinwheel Curls
3 X 10 X 25s (each arm)

Single-arm Machine Preacher Curls
3 X 10 X 25 (each arm)

Seated Incline Dumbbell Curls
3 X 8 X 20s (each arm)

NOTES: Arms were fried after the preacher curls, so I just called it there.

ENDING NOTES: Not the best workout, but I did what I needed to. Still trying to work on my pullups. Nothing else to report, really.

CS

When I used to be able to do 20 pull ups, I found drop sets to be really helpful. I’d attach an extra 25-35lb, get 5-7 reps which left a rep or two in the tank, then lose the weight and bang out as many bw pullups usually 3-5.

Heck, I don’t know why I’m not doing that now. I’m gonna start that back up.
