Well, now that I’m good at them, I love them. My regular squat max has probably gone up now because of them. The 340 on Wednesday was easy enough to where I probably could’ve gotten 365. My best regular squat (now that I’ve been training with Ed) is 370. I’d put my max around 380-390 somewhere. I’m hoping to squat 405 at the meet, which would be my first 405 squat ever.

Thanks! And yes, I literally train with Ed Coan. I even have his number in my phone haha. I see him on Mondays and Wednesdays, when we bench and squat/deadlift. All the other stuff he said we can do on our own.

Saturday, May 26, 2012 - Back & Biceps
Warm Up
- PVC roll back
- Lots of stretching
- Rotator cuff
Pull Ups
2 X 12 X BW* +1 rep & volume PR.
1 X 8 X BW
NOTES: After not doing them for a couple of weeks, I found that I was able to get 2 more clean reps than usual. I can get to 8 no problem, but then I start slowing down. Oh well. I’ll see if I can’t get 3 sets of 12 next week.
Wide-grip Low Cable Rows
1 X 15 X 60
1 X 15 X 65
1 X 15 X 70
Wide-grip Lat Pulldowns
3 X 15 X 42.5
EZ Bar Curls
4 X 10 X 60
Pronated Grip Dumbbell Curls
3 X 10 X 20s (each arm)
Single-arm Preacher Curls
3 X 10 X 30 (each arm)
Standing Double Cable Curls
3 X 10 X 15
Flat Preacher Curls
3 X 10 X 40
NOTES: I can usually handle 50 with no problem, but my bis were fried from everything else, so I just kinda went for what I could get.
ENDING NOTES: Pleasantly surprised by today, especially with the pull ups. I hadn’t done any in 2 weeks due to scheduling conflicts with work, school, and a bunch of other stuff that came up. But I’m finally back to everything full swing. Now all that’s left on my list is to find a good martial arts studio that teaches either Muay Thai or Judo. I found a place that teaches Hapkido, which is similar to Judo, so I’ll check that out. The only thing holding me back right now is the prices of these places. I haven’t found anywhere under $75/month. The search continues after the holiday, because everybody is closed this weekend.

With your athleticism and size I think you would be a killer in judo. Good lifts man keep it up.

Thanks, man, I appreciate it. I think it’ll help with my conditioning, too.

Some place close to where I live; I’m not sure, though.

Over the course of the past year or so, I’ve been asked, “Luke, why do you want to join the Army? You’re not going to make a lot of money. Do you WANT to die?” Here’s what I tell them: “I don’t want to do it for fame or money, those are the least of my worries. As for dying, no, I don’t want to, but if I have to, then I will.” Why? I want to do this so I can fight for every last one of you. I may not know you or get along with you, but that doesn’t matter when freedom is on the line.
As for the countless men and women who have served before me, I hope to be held in the same echelon as them and maybe be half the heroes they were. They fought for what the believed in and most importantly, they fought for what they love - their country. Freedom doesn’t come free; it never has and it never will. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m willing to stand up for my friends, my family, my country.
With all of my might, I’ll stand up and fight for every star and every stripe on the flag that I love so dearly. Freedom is calling, and I have to answer. Happy Memorial Day and God bless America.
