Training or Whatever You Call It

Since I’m back into training after a year off. I’ve been encouraged to keep a log for “infotainment” purposes.

A Brief Intro:
The beginning of 2006 I was weighing in at 230lbs and just competed in my first strongman meet. I was training at LA fitness and it just wasn’t cutting it. No chalk and the top 40 on the radio was demotivating me. So being so serious at lifing and achieving my goals, i built a better gym.

Long story short, it took a year to build the business and the gym all done from the ground up. The whole time i wasn't makeing any income but working alot. So my training suffered. Cut to 2007, the gym is up and running and i'm roughly 185lbs. So it's time to start training again.

My diet is still lacking, it's going up in cals but right now i'm eating roughly 1800 cals a day. When i get more money i'll eat more.

So here we go.
The template i'm using is a modified one from Christian Thibaudeau.

Monday
Diet for the day: 1 can tuna, 3eggs, 1/2 cup oatmeal with skim milk and 2tbsp peanut butter and a (free)rockstar.

Workout
A1: Incline Press
1x6 135lbs, 2x6 145lbs, 2x5 145s
no rest
A2: Standing DB military press
1x6 80lbs, 4x70lbs
B1: Seat Row
5x6 160lbs
B2: Wide Pulldowns
5x8 140lbs

Take 5mins to mop up after King(the gym mascot) decides to perform a “running while peeing manuever” and leaves a 20ft river of pee next to the office.

C1: Close Grip Bench Press
  3x6 135lbs
no rest
C2: Rope Press Downs
  1x8 80lbs, 2x8 100lbs
D1: EZ bar Curl
  1x6 75lbs, 2x6 85lbs

Glad to see you back at it.

I would but the closest base is Luke AFB and it’s an hour away on the opposite of phoenix.

However I recently recieved a couple free cases of rockstar from a hookup at a local club. So that’ll add a couple hundred cals a day for a few weeks.

Good to see you back in it and everything, but on a much more serious note, your dog is savage

You don’t know how true that is. I caught him the other day making a solid attempt at eating the chains.

Well I don’t know what last night was but it wasn’t a workout. Here’s what happened.

Due to some major delays we started the training session at 10:30pm with a rockstar and California love “bumping”.

First superset.
Front Squats
1x6 145lbs, 1x4 145lbs
Power Squats
2x8 315lbs
Second Superset
Sumo Deadlifts
1x4 315lbs
Glute Ham Raise
1x8 Body Weight

We stopped at the second set of deadlifts cause I was too tired to use proper form and I tweaked my back. Also Chris fell asleep on the floor while waiting for his turn.

Also Started to log my food. I ate a grand total of 993 calories with 200 of it coming from a rockstar that day, lol.

1800 calories, Jesus bro, I eat that by lunch.

Nice dog! Is he a blue pit?

Cool gym BTW.

Bro less then 1000, you wont survive long let alone make progress, eat anything at this point just intake

That’s right. He’s an Blue nosed american pit. He belongs to Chris and has become the Offical Gym mascot. He’s about 20lbs heavier since that pic was taken.

I expect some sled dragging videos. That and crushing a Heavy Grips gripper in his jaws. Get him on the program

HaHa! that’s the diet exactly eat whatever. I got a hookup at a club and get free sockos, 180s and rockstars. I don’t drink them for energy, it’s for the calories. But yeah I eat whatever is available. I have another hookup with free pizza ever now and then, so that’s always a good day when that happens. But it varies from day to day, sometimes there is more and sometimes there is less food. I get busy or am at the gym all day so whatever food is there has to last me from 8am to 10pm.

Although yestaurday I got 1790 cals in. And today I’ve already takin 600 or so heading into my workout, So we’ll see what happens.

We’ll work on that. Try to get some pics/videos up. He’s already been dragging chains and the sled.

Congratulations on starting your on gym. But you’ve got to do better about eating.

Think of it this way, right now, you are the walking billboard for your gym. If you look like you train, people will want to train with you, which equals customers. If you look like you just got out of a concentration camp, well, that can’t be good for business.

If money is the issue, think of it as a business expense. When I was a broke-ass student I used to look at food as protein to dollars. Tuna and Whole milk were the champs at around 1g of protein for .02 dollars spent. With whole milk you get fats and sugars as a bonus. For carbs white rice was the king. Dry beans are also great but cooking takes a lot of time.

If it’s laziness like you said, well there are no excuses for that. But since you have the where-with-all to start your own business, it can’t be laziness. Probably just the excitement. Anyway, best of luck!

Yeah it’s mostly a money thing. The budget is real tight right now. Was supposed to eat more this month. But the City of Tempe hire 3 new inspectors and One came by saying we needed to pay $412 for a sign permit and take our banner down. This is after we payed $500 for the sign company to make and $200 for an electrian to fix the sign.

Also I got a speeding ticket which is about $200. So thats where the grocery budget went to. But it’s all good I’ll eat more next month. Right now my goal is to get above 2000 cals a day. I almost got that, after that it’ll 2500, and so on.

I like the milk idea. I’ve been drinking skim but your suggestions makes me think about whole for more cals. Also I got to get on my beans. I have a couple bags. I’m gonna cook them tonight, hopefully that’ll last me the week.

Okay, Saturday’s workout.

I planned on a conditioning day. Ciruit trainin was on the menu. I say was cause that’s not what happend but i did get a conditioning workout in.

A friend of mine had his car break down. Which means Chris and I are on the road pushing it to the auto shop. That’s the warmup. After we get back to the gym, we are informed that zak had been keg pressing.

Taking this as a challenge, I performed a few sets. Got a bloody lip, which turned out to be a badass pic. After that I saw pat was flipping the tire. So i jumped out and joined him. I did a set of 6. I was hungry by then, having not eaten that day other than half a can of rockstar, so I did my one set and went in to eat my oatmeal.
