Do any of you guys train in singlets or do you just wear them for meet day or leading up to a meet I don’t train at a pl gym so I don’t wear my singlet while training but I think I might start wearing it for my next meet prep
I wear a singlet every time I train.
I used to take crap for it at the gym, but now I lift alone at home where I don’t have to be distracted by the fashionistas.
I get body position cues from the singlet which I learn. I then take that level of awareness to the meet. No surprises.
Apparently wearing it for a prep is good if you haven’t done so before, but it always comes down to personal preference. Some guys say it helps them to wear it a few weeks out some guys say it makes no difference.
If you feel like shorts and shirts get in the way or if you film yourself often its a good idea to wear one. I personally will need to do this because I need to know what exactly my body parts are doing during a lift, but the shirt and shorts aren’t tight enough.
If you’re fine with getting weird looks from some people then by all means go for it, nothing wrong with training for your sport while wearing the required garb.
I’m heaps new to powerlifting but I only wore my singlet once or twice before my first meet just to get a feel for it and otherwise I train in shorts. Until recently I used to train in skins-a-likes though, for that whole ‘feel’ of the movement but I found if I just wear standard briefs under my shorts that’s enough. I do hitch my shorts up into my crotch for deadlifts though.
The weird looks can be funny but generally speaking: 1) you’ll only get weird looks if you train in a more commercial gym; which leads to 2) if you’re weaing a singlet it generally means you’re competing which means you train properly so you’re probably stronger than most other people at the commercial gym which stops the funny looks pretty quickly.
I’d definitely recommend wearing it at least once or twice on so you get a feel for it. Out of interest, which one did you get? Here in Australia we’re pretty limited to whatever is in stock of Inzer, Metal or Titan (there’s some SBD ones and some Harris Support Systems too, but they’re harder to find). I ended up with a standard Metal one. Got a second one for a spare just in case because I’m that kind of guy.

I’m in Australia to bro my first one was metal and i have been using my local gyms brand singlet I’m about to preorder a loaded lifting one
I only have one singlet so I only wear it occasionally. Usually on Squat or Deadlift days. Me and my buddies will all wear them on the same day too for shits and giggles. I would definitly lift in singlets every day if I had a couple more just so I wouldn’t have to wash em after every use. The gym I go to is a PL gym though so no funny looks from anyone.
I start wearing a singlet a few weeks out from the meet, just so there are no surprises come platform time. Sometime I will wear one for a squat workout, shorts are always getting in the way.

I like to take care of my things. Haha
Ive never wore one in the gym and Ive never been called for depth in a meet. I have filmed myself multiple times in shorts and sweats and I can always find where depth is at.
kenny-mccormick,
Understand that what a few of us here are saying is “I have, sure, why not, and if you do, you can use the opportunity as long as you have it on” not that we are saying “I’d be dead without it.”
To be quite sure, I also wore a singlet because it only took up “this” much space, I hardly ever had to wash it because the stink harboring potential of the straps was low (or so I thought Aidan76543), I have poor memory so if I stuck it in the bag it would be there for the next workout, shorts dug into my hips when I used a belt, shorts would fight with my deadlift, I didn’t want to buy shorts because I was/am cheap, I think guys should never wear shorts in the first place because then they look like Opie Taylor, other crap both real and imagined.
In any case, I wore one all the time and took the opportunity to learn cues from it since, well, I had it on anyway.
I just trained in mine for the first time leading up to my meet, ( on saturday the 18th)
Everything felt exactly the same, just feel a little unattractive in it, but hey, it ain’t about looking pretty on the platform
personally no but to be fair more often than not I squat and pull in something like the compression shorts I am wearing in my pro pic plus a shirt… usually
