Asking for advice please regarding training Muay Thai and maybe some BJJ in Holland. I was planning on going to Mejiro or Vos as they appear to be the most well known from the Internet research I’ve done…
Language barriers are a bitch! lol They would have to be cool with me just ‘paying as I go’ as far as training is concerned.
There’s quite a lot of Thailand info out there now, what about Holland? Can anyone point me in the right direction please?! Or if anyone has been or lives there etc! Someone said I should take my own gear out there also(gloves/shins etc)

Really can’t find any info out there, best bet is to ask someone/make friends in the MT community and hope you get a connection. coach at Legends says his MT lineage is dutch, so I’ll ask him to point me in the right direction and report back.

Thanks for the replies people, agreeing with your comment about asking within, hence why I am trying forums etc! Hopefully someone can come up with info. I also feel that training in Holland would be better, as I’m taller and heavier than most Thais.
And as for the cost, damn Euro needs to strengthen up a bit!!!
I would like one day to go to Holland also. They have Vos gym here in Japan. And the original Mejiro gym is here also, though it isn’t called that anymore.
Though can it correctly be called Muay Thai? Stylistically it is different. Jan Plas of Mejiro learned kickboxing from Kurosaki in Japan who himself was originally Kyokushin.

I would agree that in Holland it’s more ‘kickboxing’ for want of a better term, than ‘Muay Thai’. I remember watching videos about the gyms + obv if you see K1, everything involves stepping in with punches and finishing with a kick or vice versa. Muay Thai is more a battle of wills/attrition.
Yeah the Dutch style isn’t what I would call Muay Thai. It’s a combination of Karate, boxing, Muay Thai and various other arts. Maybe they should call it Muay Dutch…

Mejiro Amsterdam advertises its training prices etc and has a strong history

thats badass that your training in Holland. I remember reading that on average the Dutch are the tallest people in the world. Thats gotta be a lot different than in Thailand.
Muay Thai here is pretty expensive if you want to train at a reputable gym, when converted to dollars.
I think it’s worth it though. Look how many dutch fighters there are and have been in K-1 and such.
And the language barrier will be shit. I read somewhere Dutch is the 2nd or 3rd hardest language to learn in the world.
As for styles, most pro gyms will teach you the “ring” muay thai, but there are still some traditional MT gyms out here (gotta search thoroughly though).
