Hi everyone, I’m a newbie to this forum and probably shouldn’t post a topic this early but I sincerely want to be in the best possible condition for A&S that is coming up soon. I was wondering if there are any SOF guys on here that could recommend a training program? I’m active duty 0311, just ran a 300 pft a couple days ago, run/swim 2-3 times a week, and strength train 6 days a week with 1 rest day.
Hiking wise with a pack I’m good to go as well. I have the 10 week build up worksheet given to me by my recruiter but it seems the first couple weeks I’d be wasting my time and actually getting out of shape compared to where I am physically at right now.
Thank you for your time,
Z
If you feel the first few weeks are a waste of your time, then jump to where you feel it would be challenging.
For another program, go to specialtactics.com (AFSOC PJ site). Go through the workouts section, and print out ‘The Workout’ by (I think) Bull something or other. I used it to prep for SWCC training, it combines lifting, running, swimming, rucking, and calisthenics into an 8 week program. Got me in awesome shape, then I went to SERE en route and detrained like a mofo. PM me your NIPR email, and I will send you a copy of the Horsemen Program, it was put together by a couple guys from SEAL Team 4 (I think), basically a well organized mash up of crossfit, gym jones, mountain athlete, and some other stuff. Oddly though, swimming is not included in that one, so you would have to adjust it to fit.
Is this the same Z that was just in Sgt’s Course? Check out the Super Solider article on here. It’s an awesome workout with humping which is what you need. I know you lift 6 days a week but if you do this program you’ll feel it.
My buddy just got kicked out of A&S. Well, not kicked out but he was cut out. He’s a monster. (EDIT: He THOUGHT he was a monster until they dropped his ass.) A&S is a nasty gut check. Good luck. You have your work cut out for you.
Are you referring to their 10 week shortcard/hiking/swimming plan? The entire program is geared towards your average Marine thats in moderate shape to help adjust to the demands of A&S. It’s a good program to pull some fat nasty out of a no-pt schedule - but I dont think it’s the cure-all like they cracked it out to be in the MarineCorps Times.
BoatGuy can you hook me up with a copy of that Horseman workout? I’ve heard about it but I’ve never been able to find it.
Hey man, we’ve got something in common, September A&S Prep Course with follow on A&S…? Dude, have you been doing the 10wk program religiously? From what I’ve heard, the more you do the short card, and follow the training routine, the better you’ll do during Selection. My opinion on why most Marines get non-select is because they don’t take it serious enough prior to the course. I was a SOLID 218lbs before I started the training program, and now I’ve pioneered a nasty 202lbs of shredded gnarnia. I feel small as hell compared to the way I use to feel and look, but seeing myself smoke check the humps, and roll through the short card without puking, at the end of the day, I feel great. Another thing that has been hurting Marines during selection is land nav. Hopefully you can brush up on a little bit of that before you go to the prep course, if not, I heard they cover a good amount of land nav during the prep course. Anyways, I’m rambling, but I could seriously talk about this stuff all day. From the email that was sent out to all of us the other day, I’m one of the few Cpl’s in the course so far, even though rank doesn’t matter much because we wont be wearing any during the Assessment, haha. Hit me up if you want to talk MARSOC training man, I’m all for it.
