Hey Guys. Just wanted to know CT or Shugs (Or anyone qualified to answer) how you would recommend a professional Ballroom Dancer to strength train. I am currently 5’9" and around 170’ but can’t really “bulk up” too much past 180’ -ish.
Are there certain methods/protocols/training programming you would recommend for me to put on strength, but not necessarily want to throw on 25 pounds of muscle in 2 months!
I wish I knew of a program that could put on 25lbs in 2 months on non-beginners! I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
I trained a very high level ballet dancer (Grand Ballet Canadiens, international level dancer) and I can tell you that as long as nutrients intake was kept in check, she didn’t gain any bulk regardless of how strong she got. She got more muscular but her weight didn’t fluctuate much.
Really I would train for strength and power (so a mix of heavy lifting in the 3-5 rep range and explosive lifting/jumps/throws)… lots of abs and lower back work. Very little, if any isolation work for individual muscles.
Make sure that you have enough nutrients around your workout to perform and recover optimally (PLAZMA at 1 serving pre-workout and MAG-10 one serving post-workout and one serving 45-60 minutes after would be my recommendation) and keep your caloric intake at maintenance, or slightly above it during the rest of the day. If you do things right you CAN gradually add some muscle and strength without gaining much bulk, you wont gain a lot of bodyweight regardless of how you train if your caloric intake is at that level.
That’s great CT, thank you. I will definitely apply those principles. In regards to creating a program, I would rather avoid the “try something for 6 months and see if it works” plan. Would one of your Indigo workouts here be a good place to start?
Again, thank you again!
Also, I’ve got my Plazma, MAG-10, Indigo set ordered and should be here by Monday.
