Training and Fat Loss

Hello everyone, great to be back home! I’ve been gone for a couple of years, but I’m glad to see that T-Nation is thriving!

OK, my question: I’m 46 y.o. and trying to get back to a lean physique; I’ve been training for the last couple years during my absence here but with minimal supplements (protein powder and creatine). Now I’ve got full access to everything I need and have been using HOT-ROX Extreme. I’ve started an old Chad Waterbury routine–Three Day a Week Full Body Workout.

Do you guys modify your training when dieting in the sense of backing off on intensity, or do you attempt to train as hard and heavy AS POSSIBLE given the additional stress of reduced calorie intake? I try to maintain as much of my normal training intensity as possible, therefore I Don’t go overboard on the calorie or carb restriction.

Any additional comments on training and diet are very welcome. Do you prefer full body or split routines, either for dieting or in general. Personally, ever since I ran across Chad’s articles years ago here I’ve been hooked on the logic and results of full body routines.

Welcom to the forum. I’m 51. I like whole body but I find that I need to focus each workout differently. I don’t go as heavy as possible on everything every time. For example, each workout I’ll do something light for each part of the body, a whole body power exercise and then a couple of heavy exercises for the parts I’m focussing on for that workout. As you get older, it’s more and more important to ensure adequate recovery and I find this method allows me to recover best. You need to listen to your body and take a break from time to time.

I think that’s a pretty good approach–basically what I do, except I may push it a little more (too hard headed to back off–yet).

Thanks for the reply
