Hi guys! Any of you in the Toronto area know a legitimate doctor that can help with my testosterone issue. I also suspect an issue with my thyroid. I basically need to find the route of my problem and don’t know where to go.
My family doctor, who doesn’t know anything refereed me to a Urologist with whom i have an appointment on April 30. I have a strong feeling that this guy isn’t knowledgeable either.
advice for new guys
– post your labs and other details here, lab ranges needed
thyroid basics
– check your waking and mid afternoon oral body temps
– review your history of iodine intake from iodized salt and vitamins that list iodine
finding a TRT doc
protocol for injections has good info
Is your low T a symptom of some other condition? You should try to find a root cause and see if that can be fixed. TRT to mask a symptom, low T, is not a good idea.
Note: If you have a thyroid problem; you may then have an inability to effectively respond to transdermal T. Very few docs have any understanding of that.
Lab that you need: - definitions in the first sticky
TT
FT
E2
LH/FSH - MUST be done before TRT is started
CBC
ALT/AST
Fasting glucose and cholesterol
TSH, fT3, fT4
If younger, prolactin
Can be very hard to get doctors in Canada to do these labs KS man… they end up thinking you read to much on the internet and tell you you’re going to go crazy if you keep reading… You kind of have to pick away at them one problem at a time and this can prove very frustrating… For you Dinamo1 You have one doctor in orrilia, Masters mens clinic in Hamilton which will be 6 months to a year wait to get in or look up a guy in Mississauga named Dr.Vlad Milosevic.
He is an endocrinologist which is what you need and he is young and I have heard good things about him… again 6 months before you will see him. Urologists are fine if you have testicular cancer and maybe will run some labs for you as far as hormones but have no business dealing with your hormones and you quite possibly may be sent in the wrong direction. Do not just start on TRT without finding out why you need it!!
Do not except… YOUR LOW YOU JUST NEED THE SHOTS DOESN’T MATTER WHY… I out of desperation made this mistake and I am not having a great time on trt… try and get your doc to run labs… take the labs mentioned here and use them as a reference… get educated but don’t be pushy or you will get no where with these Docs…
Hi KSman, i guess maybe i should make a separate thread with my lab work. I don’t have much info thought, i wasn’t getting tested for testosterone i wrote it down on the lab sheet myself because i was curious to see at what level I’m at and it came back at ( 13.2 M: 7.6-31.4 nmol/L and I’m 21).
After doing some research i realized that this number is low and my symptoms relate to a person with low t. So i went back to my family doc to discuss the low t… this guy has no idea he is basically willing to inject me with testosterone without any precautions. No HCG, no e2 controlling medications just straight T. Told me that Total Test is not important- that bio-available is what’s important. I asked him will my body stop producing it’s own testosterone?
He basically said that it wont because you are only adding additional testosterone to what you have. I’m pretty sure this isn’t right. Further to that i went to see him today to get blood tests for the things you’ve listed above and I didn’t even bother because he wouldn’t write down a test for total testosterone. Told me to go to my Urologist to see what he says.
Well, that’s why I’m looking for a doc that is knowledgeable and actually knows what he’s doing.

Hey man thanks alot!I’m gonna try getting an appointment with Dr.Vlad i actually live in Mississauga. Do i need a referal from my family doc? God damn i don’t want to go back to this guy. Maybe he can look at my thyroid too. I have ft4 at 14 on a scale of 12-22 which my doc said is fine everywgere i read it says that this a hypothyroid state. My hair went thin and now its falling out like crazy. This is messed up i feel dead and have all the symptoms meanwhile the doc says my thyroid is ok.
thyroid basics
– check your waking and mid afternoon oral body temps
– review your history of iodine intake from iodized salt and vitamins that list iodine
This is something important that you can get done now.
ft4 at 14 on a scale of 12-22, optimal would be near mid scale, (12+22)/2=17
Are you iodine deficient?

yes you will need a referral.Do not think you know more then your Doctor. You don’t!! Bioavailible is the “gold standard” for testing and it is what does the work… You paid for that test? On the other hand Total T should not be low… Usually in Canada they test free and Total, bioavailible is 50 bucks… Be nice to your doctor, most Doctors would laugh you out of the room and tell you you’re to young to have low T… At least he is trying to help you… They have to work withen ranges to some degree or they end up getting in shit… The thyroid and hormones are very complicated and prolly not something you will learn in your lifetime… It’s hard for me at 34 to argue with doctors without them thinking i’m a quack never mind 25 :). Just ask for a referral and be nice

I will be making a separate thread with the blood work that i have hopefully it will answer all of those points.

I agree that i don’t know as much as my doc, but you know i have to ask certain questions to see where he’s at. TRT is pretty serious especially at my age meanwhile the doc is ready to inject the testosterone. I mean i got the prescription right beside me for Test E that he gave me today. Yes, the $50 was covered by my insurance.
Well, I guess i will make decisions after my appointment on April 30 if that doesn’t work ill try to get a referral to Dr.Vlad.
I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble getting the medical help you are needing and I hope this physician in Mississauga is able to sort things out for you. Your situation seems to be common in Canada and has affected a number of my close friends as well. I am a physician in Ottawa and I am currently in the early phases of developing a private TRT clinic plus hope to follow AAS users for harm reduction as well as hormonal axis rehab post-cycle. I hope to get things running this year and would be more than happy to work with you if things are not sorted out for you.
CapitalT, appreciate your input. Honestly I did not expect it to be this hard to find a knowledgable doctor. I am glad that you are working on opening up your own trt clinic - this gives me a lot hope. I wouldn’t be surprised if I become one of your patients in the future.
And is there a way I can follow up on the progress of your clinic?
iw84aces,Ontarioguy, where or how are you guys getting treated right now? Self medicating? If nothing is being done, how are you managing your symptoms?
Personally, I can barely survive 4 days at school. Was supposed to be looking for a co-op but there is no way i can make it 5 days/ 9-5.
Do not self medicate… I am seeing doctors just not the right doctor… You need Labs bud… The symptoms of low T are also symtoms of other things and you may be able to reverse low T by finding the underlying cause…it came back at "
( 13.2 M: 7.6-31.4 nmol/L and I’m 21)" these numbers are in range. How many times have you tested T? Do not get T tunnel vision… It is not as fun as you may think and does not cure all and you will feel very much the same if the problem isn’t T… I am on a good dose of T and wish i never started… I did it out of desperation and it has done basically nothing for me but add more stress to an already stressful situation… Those muscle gains you think you may get will not happen and you may not feel better but quite possibly worse if you have thyroid or adrenal issues…

Ya your doctor is wrong… When you start trt lh and fsh are turned off the body recognizes that it already has T and stops production of T… Plenty of guys do well on trt with hcg or AI’s? Yes it would be nice to find a doctor that will incorporate this kind of protocol but for us in this country it just isn’t going to happen… I have called many pharmacies to see if they know of any doctors who use this drugs and the answer is always no and they have never heard of a doctor doing that…

Guys,
I’ll be more than happy to help you when things get up and running and will keep you posted. I plan on posting more details when things become more clear as I’d like input from people on this forum. There is a ton of knowledge on this site that is far more than what you’ll see in medical texts and specialist guidelines.
I have a lot to learn myself and look forward to some of that learning coming from people with long term actual experience. However, I’m not experienced with sharing contact information on forums so I don’t know if you can PM or not. Feel free to try and I’ll hope it works.
Until then, I agree with KSman’s comments. Do the things you can take charge of (temperature and IR). Your doctor won’t know about this most likely and it is new to me as well. When you do see your doctor or specialist, I agree with the advice to ask for what you want (without trying to seem pushy). A lot of docs really do see TRT for symptomatic levels of low T as ‘taking steroids’. Show up armed with your positive ADAM questionnaire and T levels and any other useful info you have and state your case. This worked for one friend of mine who was lucky enough to have a doctor who really cared about his personal situation and was willing to learn about something new. This may be the case for you as well!
Although IR may be for some and I am currently trying it without major sides… one should rule out hashimotos and have a full thyroid panel done before implementing it… My friend started IR lst night and for one hour his heart was pounding out of his chest and thought he was going to die… Also taking selenium and VIT C with the iodine is highly recommended as I have researched this subject a lot before attempting it… food for thought…
CAPITALT: PM’S do not work on this site…if i left my cell number for a brief period the deleted it would you call?
