Thanks man. I will get my scores back in a few days. Hopefully I won’t have to remediate.

I found out that keeping my feet in front of me when I dip helps me to keep stress off of my shoulder. I will repeat and comment on that in the future if it holds to be true.
I have to move to a new apartment, so I didn’t get to do pull ups.
I will add those to tomorrow’s work.
I have been having a bit of pain lately. I think I can feel an indirect inguinal hernia on my left side. I am not 100% sure, but I think that is the cause.
Anyone ever had a hernia repaired and come back to lifting without much loss of progress?
Any thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated.

Not personally no, but I know a couple guys who have. They’ve gotten so good at hernia repairs these days with the mesh and all that jazz that from what I’ve seen the dudes abdominal wall is permanently stronger than it was originally as a result. I mean it’s sort of like a straight body upgrade lol.
Also that’s some nice pressing

I hope so.
I have helped sew mesh in people during open procedures, but I wasn’t in charge of doing follow up, so I am unfamiliar with recovery.
That makes me a bit uneasy. Also, I have never seen the procedure done on anyone with any type of lifting background.
Hopefully, it will hold until after school is over haha.

I have been particularly frustrated with my standing strict pressing as of late. It just stalled out of nowhere when I started training my legs hard again.
Not that that is a terrible thing for mere mortals such as myself, I am just saying that I wish it would never stop progressing…like ever…
Hey trivium, I’m new here but I’m a fan of your log, anyway I’ve had 2 inguinal hernia repairs, one on my left side when I was 19 and I was out of the gym for atleast 4months before anything felt good again and only using light weights at that. The second I had 2 years ago, and I was back in the gym in 2 weeks using decent weight and full recovery in 1 months time. It really all depends on ur surgeon I feel, the first time, I just went with who my doctor recommended, but this last time, I shopped around and found a guy who specialized in hernia repair, he was 2 states and outta my insurance network, i went with him and made the drive there and back on the same day and paid outta pocket, but it was well worth it. Good luck

Skipped.
I worked 12 hours at my new rotation in the ED. I had a good time, and I am looking forward to my next shift.
I HATE MISSING LIFTS, but I am wiped out and don’t know of any local gyms (locations, hours, fees, etc). I also ate poorly today (definitely under-ate).
I have tomorrow off, so I will go looking for a gym tomorrow, and I will likely do a two-a-day session when I find one. Lots of back work in one workout, and the following will be squatting.
I am thinking that a bunch of slices of pizza, some McDonalds chicken products, and a full night of sleep with an early rise will be enough to put me back on track.
Hopefully that this day or two lapse of lifting doesn’t halt my progress for the next 10 years of my lifting career.

Thank you for the kind words and following along man. My spirits are always lifted when people post in here.
You see, your first surgery is some scary stuff for me, but the second doesn’t sound too bad. I am glad you’re feeling better though.
Would you be opposed to sharing the surgeon’s name? How did you find him?
If I do need surgery, I don’t want to play games, and money is not going to get between me and my goals.
Whatever it takes to get back under the bar is what I will do.
I feel like I am unbalanced, but aside from my family/friends/school, I really don’t have anything else. This is kind of my life right now.
Anyway, thanks for the post man. I will keep everyone updated as best I can like usual.
Sure no problem his name is DR Alan Kravitz, he’s out of Maryland, and this is funny but I just googled hernia repair and his website http://www.affordableherniasurgery.com was one of the first ones that popped up haha. I checked out some reviews and googled his name and found all his certifications and looked for malpractice lawsuits and he had a very clean record with amazing reviews, so I set an appt for him to check me out and made the drive and he went over the entire procedure, i scheduled it for a week later.

Did he do an open or laparoscopic surgery?

It’s important to address this too. I’m sure you know that, but I’d make it a bit higher priority since the lifting issues seem to be having a bit of a negative effect. Having something else to shift your time and focus to can help mitigate the negatives.
Open surgery, I got a 3 inch incision for this surgery. I did have a laparoscopic for an appendectomy a few years earlier and this healed in roughly the same time.

My attending surgeon told me that open procedures (specifically lichtenstein procedures) are preferable when doing inguinal hernias. Your guy probably had the same opinion.
If I need surgery, I will definitely check him out. Thank you for posting.

I know that it isn’t ideal, but there isn’t anything else I can do at the moment.
I am alone for 6 weeks at a time in a new city and then I move to the next.

Pull Ups
10/9/9/8/10/5
(The things they had to do chin ups on were shit at this gym. I will NEVER go back for that very reason. I had to rig up a smith machine on the 5th set, and that is why I went from failing reps to getting 10 again. The first 3 sets were sets of 10 but I couldn’t tell if my chin was above my hands on the last rep, so I didn’t count it.)
Face Pull
10x95 (Followed by a set of 5 pull ups.)
10x95 (Followed by a set of 5 pull ups.)
10x95 (Followed by a set of 5 pull ups.)
10x95 (Followed by a set of 5 pull ups.)
10x95 (Followed by a set of 5 pull ups.)
(I didn’t feel like I was getting quality reps with the whole stack, so I moved down weight.)
10x72 (Followed by a set of 5 pull ups.)
10x80 (Followed by rear laterals. 10x25 lbs)
10x80 (Followed by rear laterals. 10x25 lbs)
10x80 (Followed by rear laterals. 10x25 lbs)
10x80 (Followed by rear laterals. 10x25 lbs)
Dumbbell Rear Lateral Raise
10x15
10x15
10x15
10x15
10x15
10x15
(I was starting to get some shoulder pain during face pulls, so that is why I moved down to the 15 lb dumbbells.)
Standing Straight Bar Curl
10x75
7x75 (Failed 8.)
8x65
6x65 (Failed 7.)
6x65 (Failed 7.)
6x65 (Failed 7.)
(Not sure what was up here. The only thing I can think of is that I didn’t do curls last week, and I did a ton of pull ups before these sets. I have no idea though.)
I am not happy with this lift at all.
Ok so the pain. It was a 2/10 without radiation. It was right in the front of my shoulder, just above the clavicle. It was made worse with forward shoulder flexion. At first it was painful when I held this position and then pronated my hand (thumb to floor). That resolved after a bit, so I grabbed a 5 lb weight and did a few forward raises. Forward raises replicated the pain. I have negative rotator cuff tests, no pain at rest, and had no trouble driving home. I worked through it because it was so mild. AROM is normal and without discomfort.
I am almost 100% sure it was from having to do pull ups in weird positions. I have had some discomfort before doing face pulls. Maybe I need to drop weight and just focus on quality reps?
I am documenting that carefully because I am not sure what it is, and I was having trouble with that shoulder last week when I did front squats.
I only did one workout today.
I will squat tomorrow…somehow.
I found a gym that is awesome, but they are only staffed from 10 am to 8 pm. My shift in the ED starts tomorrow at 11. I have to find somewhere else.
I really don’t want to go back to the gym I was at today.
Shoulder is calming down now after my lift. I will post updates so I can track it just like I have done with all of the other small things I currently have or have had in the past.
What rotator cuff tests were you doing out of curiosity.
