Tore My Hands Up

I rarely tear calluses…

So far its happened once, during in the summer, while doing power snatches + snatch pulls.

I think it is because my hands sweat so they are almost never dry. Plus I tend to pick off my calluses with my nails when I am bored (or nervous).

All the other times I’ve had palm skin being flaked off was because it was too thin. Like the 1st time I did Clean & Jerks, and the 1st time I did snatch pulls + snatch grip deadlifts.

Had my palm tear a few times. It’s always with rack pulls, too. Only thing that seems to work is stronger grip and practice. As my palm gets a little thicker and rougher, it gets “sandpapered” down by the bar but doesn’t rip.

What do you guys think of using gloves so this shit doesn’t happen? I lost my gloves and my hands look like a beaver’s been gnawing on them…

haha i forgot about this thread.

loose the glove man; unless your a hand model.

just use chalk and lift heavy and often. you will grow some calluses and then it won’t be too bad.

my hands tear up after some deads, shrugs or rows but you can pick the dead/hanging skin off and wash your hands and it will smooth up.

You got them in the middle of the palm? How the hell did you manage that. Anyway, it doesn’t look too bad. My hands would usually be a lot worse (although the problem areas would be closer to the base of the fingers, particularly middle & ring).

Looking at my hands now, they’re probably the best condition they’ve been in a very long time. Think it might have something to do with not doing Romanian Deadlifts.

As already stated use a pumice stone or file and you won’t have to deal with having them tear.

I’m a hand model, mama. A finger jockey. We think differently than the face and body boys… we’re a different breed.
