Too Muscular for Spec Ops?

Your way off dude…quit trying to church it up. EOD is no where close to SEALS, its not even the same ballpark. EOD is not a part of Naval Spec Warfare.

“My problem is that the instructors that I see to train with tell me to stop working out and all that muscle mass is worthless. They say that is just for looks and not very functional. Here are my stats:”

You know what their right! There talking about the way you carry your muscle on your body. Guys with functional strength carry it in a different way than those who train for looks. Im 5’11" and 225 you know what a bitch it is to get in and out of dive gear in a hurry!

Height: 5’10"
Weight: 172
BF%: 4-7% (depending on method)
Chest: 47"
Arms: 17"
Waist: 31"
Legs: 22"

I can do 25 pullups without stopping, 115 pushups in two minutes, and 105 situps in two minutes. I run a 10:30 1.5 mile and swim a 10:15 500yd.

You need to improve your run time alot. Get your 1.5 down to around 8.5 min tops!

You were obviously fuckin around during your swim as well.

“Do u guys have any advice? Have any of u come across the same situations? Is being too muscular going to hurt my run and swim times?”

Yea get a grip on reality! Be honest with yourself. If they got you this worked up already you do not have the mental skill and discipline it takes.
Did you honestly think during your post that SpecWar would’nt chime in to raise the bullshit flag!

I’m sure I’ll never see you in the fleet

Then why the fuck are you doing PT, lifting weights, living off MREs and taking HOT-ROX? You’re just like every 14 yr. old skinny-fat MF who posts on this board wanting to know how to get hyooge ‘without losing my six pack’. The only difference is you managed to work SpecOps into your question

. Next thing you know, you’ll be telling us how living on MREs at 175#, you’ve maxed out your genetic potential and you’re thinking of turning to steroids. Oh wait, you used steroids to get to where you are now!

I only got up to 8% at 187pounds…damn I loved being at that weight. Is 187 pounds considered a BB? (for all u haters out there)

1st- As CaliLaw said, for a SpecOps guy, you sure care a lot about what other people think.

2nd- As you said, It’s just a number. 185# is fine for a guy who’s 5’5". My brother is 6’1" and prefers to stay at a lean 190# because he doesn’t have to workout often to stay there. If you want to be hyooge, get there. If you want to be SpecOps, do that and realize that you’ll likely have to choose between the two.

3rd- IMO, at 5’10" I can’t see you weighing <200-210# at </= 10% BF and being considered a “bodybuilder”. Your stats right now put you in the 50th percentile for both height and weight. I have trouble considering someone taller and weighing less than half the people on the street a big guy, esp. if they’ve used gear.

The more I read/hear/think about your situation, the less I believe you. Given that you now weigh 175# and 3 yrs. ago you were injecting test enanthate without knowing the difference between a milliliter and a cubic centimeter, I’m inclined to think that you’re completely hopeless or u r full of shit.[/quote]

Hahaaha… man u crack me up. When in the hell on any of my posts did I say that i take MREs? U are reading way too much into this situation. Also, im not a young naive 14yo. I happen to be 24yo and possess a degree in CJ and Psychology. In reference to my gear use, I had posted when I first started and quickly did my research and found out the proper procedures. Everyone learns lessons. Thats life man. I actually did very well after those cycles and got a modeling gig as well as did my first BB contest. Your remarks dont bother me at all. I do agree with u that I will have to chose BB or Spec Ops. That makes since to me. That whole refernce to HAVING to be 5’10" and at LEAST 210 pounds to be a BB is lucrative and crase. I might not be the biggest guy out there, but I am definately more muscular than the average person.

Damn shipmate great words of encouragement. You sound like a great operator. (B.S.) I am not worked up at all. I was just inquiring on a BB site about muscle mass being functional in Spec Ops training. I am working on my run and swim times as those i know are my weaknesses.

As the mental side goes, I am not even worried about. I have been in worse situations before. U just gave me more inspiration to see it to the end. Thanks bro. I also, know the huge difference b/w SEALs and EOD…I simply compared the two to give the readers a reference to look at. SEE YOU IN THE FLEET

I would agree with the majority of the posts here. You more than fulfilled the requirements as far as passing their PT tests. I wouldn’t change a thing since you probably are in the top percentile of passing the physical aspects.

The thing to remember when completing military spec op courses is that you gear your mind to endure the many discomforts you will encounter no matter what your physical make up. Just continue to keep in shape. Good luck!

Aye, reading your posts gives me a headache.

Be smart about this. You said these are the guys who will be instructing you, correct? You don’t want to be labeled as “that guy” who wouldn’t listen. At least make a good show of being attentive to their points.

Ensure you can meet the requirements for running/swimming aerobic exercise and keep the mass the best you can.

You may well exceed the strength requirements for the job, but I don’t know anyone who is too muscular for their military job and I know a lot of really big guys who work across the whole spectrum of military roles.

I think you will do just fine in EOD school. You have the mentality to make it all the way. Negative comments should just get you more fired up to pass at the top of your class. Oh, and for all of you people who don’t believe his stats, I know this guy and work with him everyday and I can tell you all of it is the truth. Stop trying to bash people and try a little encouragement for people who want to better themselves.

Do you cut up his meat and make his shakes for him too?

Ohhh my.

Kid didn’t initally want to better himself, he came on here crying about negative comments layed on him by his instructors. Stats aside he needs to be a man or he’s going to fail.

Having a buddy come on here to defend him is hilarious.

dude, u should just keep ur mouth shut and concentrate ur energy on cardio. Dont get jealous because people are in better shape than u. I can understand if u were in good shape, but at 20% bf I think u nedd to stay quiet. U have no concept of discipline

I didn’t come on here to defend anyone, but to give him a good post and to try to clear up the question of his stats. Alot of people on here don’t seem to believe him and jump on that rather than the reason this topic was set which was for DISCUSSIONS on the topic. If you want to simply talk shit on the internet, which is one of the least intimidating things you can do, why don’t you try Myspace. I’m sure you can find lots of teenagers who will actually take what you say to the heart.

All homeboy had to do was post a pic, which he claimed (on 11/30/06) he would do “soon.”

I’m sure you guys got a digital camera.

I can’t hold my tongue on this. Being in the military myself, and having went through EoD school, I would hardly call it a “step-down” from special ops. It is intensive and you have to know your shit, but that is a far stretch to throw yourself up there with seals/delta/combat controllers, etc. That aside, keep pushing you will make it if you have the drive. Your size does not matter.

Dude… human was being sarcastic.

Everyone knows the BJJ guy could only beat the pro boxers 5 at a time because he is only human.

HOV - I hear what you’re saying and I understand the sarcastic remarks because I use them from time to time to prove a point, especially with FNGs.

I “nedd” to stay quiet becuase I’m saying things that are unsavory to you, that’s all. As for my BF, that’s what it was when I first started on this site after a major knee reconstruction that ultimately ended my Navy career, so that number is irrelavant, especially as it pertains to my discipline. Your best rebuttal to anyone’s comments is to succeed in EOD school and make another post titled “Graduated Bitches!” or something along those lines. Handle YOUR business and succeed and I’ll pat your back.

Thanks rom, what service are u in? I know that Navy EOD and SEALs are 2 different leagues. I do know that the navy does consider EOD Spec Ops, but believe from what my marine friend told me that EOD in the AF, Army, and Marines are just specialized MOSs. Thanks for setting it straight

I am in the Air Force. I know the schools you will go to are right there with the elites, same training that they go through. For the BUDS and such.
Then again your job, depending on where you get stationed could have you doing more special ops type missions. I didn’t mean to generalize the whole career field. I just felt the post came off in a show-boating kind of way.

Most guys (nearly half or more) of EoD are deployed overseas because they are that high in demand. So who knows what you could be doing =). Anyways I hope you stick with it, your drive will always be more important than your numbers(times). If you want it, the instructors will be there to help you. Good luck on it, always need more EoD.

The Special Forces guy, tall, handsome, ripped and all that is kinds a good image, but sometimes someone who looks a bit more normal is going to be more suitable for certain operations where if they are tryna blend in, they won’t stick out like a sore thumb. I spose that’s common sense though.

Whilst I reckon looking like Ronnie Coleman and breaking into a sweat when you move slightly might be of little use to special forces, being more muscular and athletic is only of use.

Or as a bodybuilder and model refer us to someplace where we could see a pic. I’d settle for a picture that’s a year old where he’s at 165# with 16" arms and 21" thighs. Unless he was modeling boys’ underwear in the local department store catalog, then he can keep the pics to himself.
