I’ve been lifting a couple of years and I have noticed that my traps&neck seem to be growing at a little bit faster rate than everything else. I know it must sound silly to some of you to be complaining about this but for me it really is a problem. My traps seem to develop way faster than chest, arms or legs…I have a good back tho.
I’ve always been tall and lean but had a strong neck and now it seems like my neck&traps are growing way more than the rest of my body. The thing is that I don’t really even do traps and only shoulder exercise I do is overhead press. Usually I follow either PPL or 5x5 programs and focus mostly on the big lifts only.
So is it too much pulling? Do I have too much focus on upper back or something?

Yeah I rarely work traps and they grow proportionally with the rest of me. Traps seems to just be one of the BP’s that responds either really well for people or not at all.
I doubt you can ever have to big of traps/upper back though. Unless your traps look like Johnnie Jackson’s, they aren’t over-developed. Everything else is just under-developed.
Hi guys I’ve been thinking lately that my dick is just too huge. I mean, I never asked for it to be so awesome. Anything you think I should do to amend this situation?

Thanks for the answer. My next question would be that if everything else is underdeveloped compared to my traps what should I do cos I’m already hitting everything equally hard with compound movements and if I do isolation it’s already on everything else than traps or shoulders hahah.
Is there any specific compound stuff that has a big effect on traps like BB rows that I should do less or if I’m doing it wrong e.g. with too much incline so it hits more my upper back/traps than the whole back?

My traps grow quickly too, but I agree with this statement… that everything else is under-developed.
For me, overhead press caused more trap growth than shoulder growth. Lateral raises also seem to engage the traps too much for me.
While this varies person-to-person, as a general rule, when the elbow is below the shoulder, the deltoids are doing most of the work; when the elbow is above the shoulder, the traps are doing most of the work. (With triceps doing the most work at the top).
I’ve been experimenting with an upright row variation where I never take the elbows above my shoulders. This has done a decent job at mostly keeping the traps out of the movement and bringing the focus back to the deltoids where I want it.

I’m really tempted to post that picture with the knife…
Can somebody please show me what the fuck an overdeveloped trap looks like? This sounds as ridiculous as complaining about your calves growing to quick.

Ok let me re-frase What should I do differently to even out the development? Because I’m hitting all body parts with 5x5 or doing PPL where I barely do traps at all… It just seems weird to me that the body part I train the least seems to be developing fastest.
I’m of course happy and praising the lord for all kind of gains not trying to sound ungrateful hahah

Everything on me grows to quick guis. What do I do?

What’s your current height, weight, and general fat level? Can you toss up a pic?

Say what now? Why would you not focus on (or at least include) lateral raises as the base of your shoulder work if you’re looking to avoid trap growth?
What does your training week look like - days, exercises, sets, and reps?
Could be, and could be. Could also just be loose technique on some exercises that’s letting the traps takeover. Without knowing what your training looks like, it’d just be guessing.

I tossed this up in another “big traps” thread.
I thought it made the case for overdeveloped traps, how Jackson’s frame went from tapered (dare I say ‘aesthetic’) to blocky, but some other dudes thought it made just the opposite case - that bigass traps are always good. So, who knows.

I would just make sure your traps aren’t taking over during laterals, that you’re going through a full ROM on Rows and not just jerking it up and making it into a power shrug (most row variations are intended for your lats as well). Hell, I use to get a trap pump when doing pushdowns, shrugging my shoulders to my ears trying to press the whole stack.
I feel my traps were one of the things that developed first for me because I was probably using shitty for on everything. I would reevaluate technique first and foremost if I were you. If you’re using the 70’s for laterals and Pinwheel curls, you may be doing trap work 90% of time in the gym accidentally

Spidey nailed my thoughts exactly. Take a hard look at your form on everything.

I personally don’t like that look. It looks like his traps have delts!

JOJ has always been the go to for that. I was thinking more along the lines of someone not on the Olympia stage. I don’t really think many nattys are getting JOJ sized traps.

Hey what did you expect from a “Help my traps are too swole!” thread?
My real recommendation would be to keep training like you are currently, but cut back on the Trapplejacks you must be eating every morning for breakfast. Start eating some oatmeal or eggs or something a little less anabolic.
