Too Much Fish Oil?

Would anything bad happen?

How much is to much? I dunno drinking a liter of fish oil a day would probably be unhealthy. But I don’t think you can really get to much unless you make a absurd effort.

A couple of years ago I experimented with about 20g a day for a few weeks - the major side effect was a noticeable drop in libido. Needless to say I haven’t tried that much since!!

Perhaps your blood might have difficulty coagulating?

I seem to remember that Dr. Sears felt too much fish oil leads to the overproduction of eicosanoids, which are pro-inflammatory. So you are always trying to hit the “sweet spot” between too much or too little fish oil. I don’t know if my memory is correct or if this is even true.

You’ll probably be attacked and eaten by Grizzly Bears.

Poliquin reccomends 45g/day for a 200lb athlete. That’s 3 tablespoons a day…I take 2(30g) for over a year and have noticed no ill effects.

Scotty, how many DHA/EPA grams is this?

For a while, the fat in my diet came exclusively from olive oil, peanut butter and fish oil. After some time, I discovered I was craving for butter. Five seconds later, I was like “well, no shit, Einstein, what did you expect?”

All fats are good, except trans and hydrogenated. Don’t rely on just one kind of fat.

Fish oil, if it’s regular fish oil pills, it’s OK to take in larger amounts than indicated on the bottle - larger, within reason.
If it’s Flameout, the indicated dosage is probably just right, although some people are taking more than that with good results.
