thanks

Damn, I thought this was gonna be another bash Tom Cruise thread.

I’m gonna get one…

Yeah, right after the BREAST IMPLANTS.

Sorry but I think they’re girly. I’d rather drive around in circles pretending I’m not lost.

I recently purchased one for my brother. It is so good I am thinking of getting one for myself. Well made device. I have seen a couple other GPS’s, Tomtom is by far the best.

Garmin c330 has never done me wrong… used it in and all around Long Island, Boston, and Philadelphia areas. You can find it for about $270 online.

I’d have to go with the Garmin, either the StreetPilot or nuvi series. Both have tons of features, depending on what you’re looking to use it for.

We sell them at work and have had minimal problems with either.

I got my girlfriend the Garmin C330 because she gets lost all the time. She hated the idea of it when I first gave it to her but now she says she can’t live without it. The only issue we’ve had so far is that it froze once but a quick push of the reset button had us up and running in no time.

All GPS are as good as the maps in it. I use TomTom in Europe and my 2001 maps are beginning to creak now. The interface is quite good, though. I love yelling at it.

TQB

I received a ONE for Christmas this year and the unit is really nice. A very logical and easy to use GUI, lots of options. Small enough to carry around in a pocket too. It has some nice features like setting up a multiple way point trip and getting an alternate route if there is a detour or roadblock. It picks up satellite signals quickly and holds on to them nicely. There is also a program you can download from

which works with google earth. you place waypoints on the map and then transfer them to the tomtom.

I wish the battery would last a little longer. you’ll get about 2 hrs unplugged, but it comes with the car charger and it also charges with the usb connected to the computer.

In the US, tomtom uses TeleAtlas maps. Navteq (which are used by google maps and mapquest) are generally considered better in the US. Teleatlas just had a big map update and new tomtom owners got it for free(not sure if thats the case now or if there using those maps by default now) but I haven’t had any problems yet.

I’ve only used it once on a route I didn’t know, from NJ to RI and it worked very nicely. Other times I’ve used it going from RI to PA where I knew the route and had it there for if I hit a traffic jam, I would tell the tomtom that the road was blocked for a couple miles and it would get me around nicely. It has a traffic function but that requires a subscription.

I hope this helped a little. Some good site I’ve found are,

http://www.yournav.com/

And always use common sense, if it tells you to take some iffy looking road, use your better judgement and it will recalculate quickly. And maybe have a backup map if going on a long trip you’ve never done in case it dies for whatever reason.

I dont have TOMTOM one, but i have TOMTOM on my PDA.
I like the tom tom software, and it works well. my only complaint, is the outdated maps, even with the new (nov.2006) release of tom tom, the maps were still not very up to date, for example, my house is 8 years old and the street still isnt even there…

but over all, tom tom gets used often and usually doesnt let me down…

when traveling out of town is where it’s very helpfull… the “auto route” feature is sweet… if you take a wrong turn… just keep driving… with-in a few seconds, tom tom will give you a new route…

Just got this one. I probably should download some speed camera locations to it so I know when to slow down. Works pretty well so far, sometimes the routes can be little odd, but in the long run you will get to where you wanted to.

thanks guys for the response
