Tommy Boy's Fat B@st@rd 5-3-1 Log.

150? Highest my current gym goes to is 115…fuuuuuuuuuuuuu

And keep me posted on the Rogers meet. At minimum I will be doing push/pull, want to do full power. My left knee is bein a bitch right now, fine on conventional deadlifting, but the sitting back/pushing out of squat rips it a new one.

Awesome pull, DoW.
Rows looked solid too.
You’ve got a crazy strong core. I tried strap planks like that the other day and could barely get three full paused reps. That you can do sets of five at almost 70lbs heavier, after a workout, is damn impressive. Keep doing work man!

7D!!!

“If we take the generally accepted definition of bravery as a quality which knows no fear, I have never seen a brave man. All men are frightened. The more intelligent they are, the more they are frightened.” – George S. Patton

Turned into a rather crappy session. I have some adjusting to do with overhead day I think.

VIDEO:

Messed around with some complexes.
Worked up to:

226X 3 deadlifts, 3 high pulls, 3 push presses.

3 high pulls, 1 CL&J from the hang.

226X3,1
256X3,1
276X3,1
291X3,1
316X FAIL Did the 3 high pulls then couldn’t clean it. Reset everything, and was able to clean it, but did not have the push press left. Explanation below.

Once I sat down(after the failed set) and thought about it, a lot of it made sense. Upper back, hamstrings, and glutes were rather fatigued from DL day last time. I think I am going to loose my straps once I get up to 270+ in weight for these and just do singles. While they make rep work from the hang possible, it feels like they are srewing with my grip once I catch the weight. Time for them to go. I will probably just do more rep work in the 226-256 range. I for some unkown reason, thought it would be a good idea to experiment with a lower catch. This is something I want to do and will continue working on, but its going to need a lot of work it looks like. I just felt generally fatigued also.

So, not thinking about any of this before hand led me to think it was a great night to try and hang clean and press more weight than I ever have before, while doing 3 high pulls with said weight just before the clean. To say that I should’ve done something different is an understatment. Just call me captain hind-sight.

On the bright side, My Do-Wins came in and are fucking awesome.

Seated DB press:

50sX 10
75sX 10
100sX 5
140sX nadda… got them into place and knew nothing was happening.
100sX10 for 3 sets.

Cable bi/tri work:

someXsome.

Pretty off night when you get right down to it. Oh well, its squat day Sat. Will do better next time.

Nice work man…shit happens!

Thanks my friend. I’ve got quite a bit of improvement that I want to see out of those blast strap planks. I would like to work with them untill I can lower the handles to where they start level with the tops of my feet. This will probably take a while.

How much planking(is this a word?) have you done in the past??

When I was an endurance athlete we did a lot of planks. Mostly the standard on your toes and elbows kind on the ground for time. A good bit of that was residual carryover or something.

I have similar feelings for them. One of the better “alt-metal” groups out there.

Thanks, and brother I have no clue. I do my best to have tunnel vision and ignore as much of the jackassery as I can. Believe it or not, that was not the most retarded thing going on in the gym that night. While I was doing my cleans, one stereotypical frat boy had a yoga mat set up in the “squat rack” next to me and was doing some kind of floor press(except that he just held the seight at lockout)/crunch hybrid for timed intervals or something. One of the oddest movements I’ve ever seen really. Only real reason I was concerned with it at all was that his various plates and other shit kept getting close to the platform.

Haha wow wtf. Obviously he is stupid cause id be nowhere near that platform with the amount of weight youre throwing around on it!

You bought Do-Wins cuz you do win
LMAO

Killer work dude, you’re awesome.

My last shoulder day I tried with some 30s and nothing was happening either. Er, nevermind. 30s < 140s =D

Hey now, there are fraternity men who know how to lift.

6/11/11 Squats. This turned into a pretty damned good day on the whole. Squats felt strong as did tire flipping and hammer striking.

VIDEO:

Warmups: So I have not written about this in a bit. Still just static stretches followed by various jumps/pull ups and band work.

Squats:

Bar X 12
135 X 8
225 X 5
315 X 3
405 X 2
added reversed black bands
405 X 2
495 X 1
585 X 1
645 X 1 <— Hells yes. Unrack felt strong as did the decent. Looking at the video, I lost a bit of tightness when I hit my sticking point, mostly due to not keeping my elbows forward enough. My knees could have tracked out just a bit more also, and my hips went a bit too far back. Stuff to work on. Was able to power through it though. Next time I may take the weight down a bit and do some rep work with the reverse bands while focusing on that point in the squat where my form starts to break down. Not sure yet, but something I have been thinking about.

RDL:

315 X 10 for 3 sets. Took this down in weight and just got some quality reps in.

Tire flips and hammer strikes:

Some X Some X Some.

This felt damned awesome. Was a bit of a pain in the ass to set up, as one of the trainers and I spent a good 20+ minutes looking for the keys for them. The gym keeps them locked up outside due to the theft of various equipment in the past. This gym used to have a trap bar. I hate thieves.

That was the end of it. Getting outside was very nice. Really good day.

Lol. I do like word play. Thanks for the compliments. Always appreciated.

To be honest, you are the exception to a VERY strict rule. Maybe its just that A&M frats suck.

Nice work grinding that squat out Dove. Beast mode.

Dove you are a Beast! Nice squating and i am super jelly of those man tires you have. So jelly. Carry on Swoldier.

Jesus, that squat was intense man. You blasted out of the hole then grinded out that last 1/2. Impressive. How much do/did the bands help? Just ordered the starter package from Texas stength Systems and am looking forward to using 'em.

EDIT: Wanted to add that when I’m benching out of the rack and have to use a portable bench with a space between the seat and the rest of the bench, I use it backwards so my head is on the seat and my neck is over the gap. That way I don’t have to worry about my ass getting pinched in the gap and throwing everything off.

Nicely done on the squat my friend, lookin solid.

6/13/11

Bench night. Was crowded as hell in the gym tonight. Had to wait for a broseph to finnish his half squat/calf raise complex before I could use the rack. Just did an extended warmup. I guess it helped.

VIDEO:

Bench:

Bar X 12
135 X 8
225 X 6
315 X 3
Added reversed grey bands
315 X 3
405 X 2
455 X 1
500 X 1
530 X 1 <— pretty awesome. Obligatory “it was all you man” from my spotter and the night was complete. Did not look like he actually touched the bar though. Still… Eh, he’s a cool dude and means well.

Close grip bench work. All reps paused on chest:

Bar X 12
135 X 8
225 X 5
315 X 1 ← shoulder felt a bit “off” here.
365 X 1 ← Shoulder felt very fucking “off” here. Called it on this one. Plenty left, but called it to err on the side of caution. Maybe I’m actually getting smarter about this stuff. I had planned on doing dips, but did not want to risk bothering my shoulder anymore, so…

Neutr. grip DB floor press:

75sX10
100sX10
125sX10
150sX4 <— Shit. Ran out of gas. Thought I had at least 5 in me. Eh, next time.

Seated DB fat grip hammer curls:

50s X 10 for 3 sets.

That was it. Deadlift is on Wend. and I am going to push this one hard, as I will be traveling for a friends bachelor party, and a different friends wedding this coming weekend. From Bryan to Ft. Worth and then to Houston is a lot of fucking driving. I think I might end up downing half a million mosnters.
