Many thanks brother. Yeah, I really like those tires. Adds an awesome type of variety to normal weight training.

Jesus, that squat was intense man. You blasted out of the hole then grinded out that last 1/2. Impressive. How much do/did the bands help? Just ordered the starter package from Texas stength Systems and am looking forward to using 'em.

EDIT: Wanted to add that when I’m benching out of the rack and have to use a portable bench with a space between the seat and the rest of the bench, I use it backwards so my head is on the seat and my neck is over the gap. That way I don’t have to worry about my ass getting pinched in the gap and throwing everything off.
Thanks for the kind words my friend. I am actually not sure about the weight that the bands take off. At the top I would guess 10-20. At the bottom I am less sure.

Here is what EFS says when they are choked around a mono and distance is actually measured. Given that my rig is pretty much totally different than thiers, I’d say they give me anywhere from 120 - 160 at the bottom of my squat. This is really just a guess. At my sticking point, 645 felt really similar to 550+ with no bands, but again, I am just guessing, and on any given day, a weight can feel very different than it would on another.

I did try turning the bench around in the rack, but having the gap near my head/shoulders really messed with my set up. The way I have it currently is the best it will get in my current gym I am afraid. Thanks for the tip none the less though, as it was worth a shot.

Nicely done on the squat my friend, lookin solid.
Many thanks brother. That certainly felt like a solid weight on my shoulders.

I think I was holding my breath on that squat too!

your whistles and grunts are very signature.

Deadlift day. Did not get to the gym until a bit later than usual, and it was rather less crowded than normal. A welcome thing.

VIDEO:

Deads:

135X10
225X5
315X3
405X2
495X1
Added reversed black bands
495X1
585X1
655X1 ← felt pretty good. Forward and upward.

DB rows on an incline bench. I have seen these done a few times online and by a few folks in the gym. Thought I would give them a try:

100X8
125X8
150X8 for 2 sets. This felt like more a rear delt/rhomboid/trap movement than anything else. Not a bad thing though. I may bring in my olympic DB handle and stick with this for a bit. That or just up the reps for a while.

Leg press. Close, low stance with a pause at the bottom:

3X10 Got a very nice quad pump from this.

Blast strap ab fallouts and pull ups:

8 fallouts followed by 5 pull ups for 3 rounds. 1 set overhand grip, 1 set underhand, and 1 set neutral grip on the pull ups.

That was the end of it. Fairly productive session. Won’t be able to hit the iron again until Sunday or Monday though. Not exactly a bad thing as I kind of feel like I need a little de-load.

I hold my breath on most of my lifts. I’ve never done it while watching youtube though

Signature… I like that. Thanks.

holy hell! All kinds of awesomeness happening lately. Savage squat my friend!

Man that pull looked all kinds of easy! How do you like reverse band pulling?

Your kicking all sorts of ass up in this bitch!

Awesome lifts Dove. Have you always been raw dog? Also, how do you like the sledge and what weight is the one you use? I’ve been wanting to get one at the hardware store so I can get some rage/cardio done.

Thanks bud.

The sledge is a pretty cool ab work/conditioning tool. I don’t know what it weighs, as its just the one that the gym bought, but the next time I use it I will put it on the gyms scale and let you know.

I have not always been raw. For 3 years of high school I competed singly ply. All we had were squat suites, bench shirts and knee wraps. At the time, my coaches had never done powerlifting before(as in competions themselves or coached others in it) and had no clue how to teach it. They just viewed it as an addition to our football offseason program. I think that each spring we did something like 5 meets in the time from early Feb. to mid May. Needless to say, our training was very far from optimal, though not quite as bad as that retarded average joe program that whats his face has going on. I may give equiped lifting another run in the future now that I actually know a little bit about what I’m doing. For now, raw works just fine for me though.

EDIT: If I were looking at buying a sledge, I would just go to Lowes, Home Depot, or Tractor Supply and get the heaviest/sturdiest one that they have. Look at the handle as well as the weight of the iron hammer. Breaking a sledge/axe/maul handle sucks.

Many thanks my friend. So far, I like the reverse bands. I can really see how this can bennefit the lockout portion of a persons lifts(which happens to be where I suck the most).

Doing my best to. Thanks bud.

I hate when I deload because when I read the logs, I’m like “Damn… I want to train now”.
But this log is by far the worst for me to visit this week lol

Very awesome stuff sir.

Hey man, just wanted to stop in and say that your log is awesome! I was wondering how much weight those bands take of for the deadlifts? I plan on doing them in a few cycles and was curious about what amount of weight I should look to take off the bottom. Thanks man!

Thank you ma’am.

I have found that often its best to have tunnel vision when it comes to training. The ability to mentally detach yourself from the actions of others can be a big help when you know that you need to do something that runs counter to your “instincts”, desires, or whatever. Doesn’t quite mean ignoring people, but it has helped me at times. This coming from a guy who sometimes has the attention span of a dog that chases whatever car happens to be driving by.

Thanks for the kind words.

As far as the bands, I am not exactly sure. I did put them on the bar with 225 last time, and the bar stayed put, so something less than that. I have not gotten around to actually measuring them yet. Keep in mind that where you place the bands on your bar will affect the tension. The bands will take off less weight if on the inside of the bar, and more if on the outside(where the plates are). I’ve always just rigged my bands up on the outside sleeve in place of a set of collars.

How tall you are will also affect the amount of help that the bands give. I rig mine to the power rack safety pins when the pins are at eye level to me. Obviously, the higher you rig them, the more they help. Best of luck with it.

Holy deadlift massacre!! This is so much fun to watch!!
