Today? Just Not Feelin' It...

What do ya’ll tell yourselves on the days when lifting seems like the last thing you wanna do?[/quote]

I have enough going on in my life where lifting is rarely if ever the “last thing” I want to do.

The older you get, the more “suck” you have to deal with. Even the worst workout on earth is better than life suck by a country mile.

So I don’t have to tell myself anything. The gym is typically one of the better parts of my day.

The only time I will hemm and haw about going is if I’m physically beat up or exhausted.

This.

I’ve had days where (barring an obvious illness) I get to the gym, warm up and decide I’m done. Or have had days where I’ve done what Stu described and do one exercise for many sets and bug the hell out of there. Or, walk the treadmill…

The consistency though is getting myself there. There is no talking my self out of not going. If I don’t have a day off scheduled or barring something else unforeseen, I’m there. That’s absolute. The saying about getting to the gym is half the battle, is bullshit. You get yourself to the gym and then dig deep, look inward and let your body tell you what your training will be that day.

I’m like, at least 62.

The short list:

Career (note: NOT a job, but a career)
House/mortgage
Wife
Kid(s) (adding the “s” multiplies at least 3 times per child)

These things are wonderful, and I am happy with my life. It is just, they take a lot of work. My hobby is pretty fucking easy to get up and go to compared to pregnant wife and teenage son.

Right, so got to be happy with my dead end job, live in a “cardboard box”, chose a low maintenance wife, and replace kids with a cat or dog.

Thanks for the heads up!

The keys to happiness right there ^

Don’t be so hard on yourself, you don’t look a day older than 57, 59 at the most

runs to hide in a corner hoping SD laughs it off

Don’t worry. He can’t see anything with that black bar across his eyes.

Oxymoron if I’ve ever seen one.

No matter how cool the chick, and no matter how laid back the dude. Marriage is work sometimes, for everyone.

It isn’t easy everyday, but it is worth it, IMO.

Yep, my wife and I have just reached the 7 year itch (very young marriage), happy to say still going strong. The first 3 years was difficult, but I guess that’s just an adaptation thing

//end chick type soppyness

It helps me to have a training partner who will mock and insult me if I skip a workout.

I’d come at you bro (if my arthritis and incontinence weren’t acting up).

option 1 - take the day off

option 2 - stop being a little bitch…

…and if you didn’t have huge un-functional useless lumps of muscle

Don’t mess with me brah, I can bench 200lbs while swimming with my legs!

Do you think you’d feel really motivated and “charged” after taking 3-4 days off from training? Let’s say you took a whole week off of lifting (shudders), would you not be itching to get back in the gym to give it 120%?

Likewise, if some weeks you drop the frequency a little bit (not just total weekly volume, but the amount of times the nervous system is “hit”) for some weeks (or maybe more permanently?), drive and intensity increases.

I know that sounds like common sense and all that (lol) but it may just work

Everyone has days when they don’t feel like lifting, no matter how dedicated they may be. It doesn’t mean you should get a new hobby or that you’re a bitch. Like kaisermetal said go in and do your main lift and assess how you feel or take the day off and hit the gym hard the next day. You are training 5 out of 7 days so that leaves two free days to make up a missed workout.

On the other hand, if someone doesn’t feel like training just because it’s leg day instead of biceps, then they would would fall into the bitch category.

i go to the gym first thing in the morning so i don’t have time to think of an excuse not to go.

a low maintenance wife? wth is that… a wife can be low maintenance only when she’s under ground or in prison.
