To TRT or to Blast

I’m considering maybe going on a blast. However, I have not been off TRT for about a year or two. I’m 5’4, 39 years old, and about 200 lbs. I used to compete in BB shows about 10 years ago and got off TRT probably around 2023-2024ish. Reason was that I had major bladder issues. Either it was Polyuria or Nocturia. I think I had gotten my prostate checked and it came back normal I believe. I think estro was in range. It was so bad that I hardly got a good nights sleep. I’m pretty sure it agitated my sleep apnea. Now test is about 300-350 range at 39 years old. I will be getting bloods done soon.

With that said, I’m still relatively pretty muscular but I have obviously lost definition and gained fat in some places. I am now trying hard to diet for a wedding in April, doing about an hour of cardio per day along with 45 mins of hard training. I guess I’m wondering to myself if blasting or even TRT for that matter is even worth it. I felt it wasn’t at the time. I’m turning 40 in May and I feel this may be my last hurrah at trying to be very fit and I’m changing my definition of fit, from being overly muscular to being fit. I’m not as obsessed about muscle as I used to be. I just want to live a long life but also be relatively fit for my age.

What do you guys think?

My opinion is that steroids are not for getting “back in shape” nor should they be used by guys or gals who don’t have a “gym lifer” mentality.

For example why does this have to be your last chance? You’re not that old as well as the fact that you can be a fit and older at the same time. Keep doing what you’re doing with the strength and cardio. Get tested for low T in the meantime.

If this is true, there is absolutely no need to take AAS, except for a true TRT.

100% agree. I only raise the topic of gear in that I might want to compete one last time but at my age, I really don’t see the point. I’m trying to get back into great shape so that I can find a suitable mate. Back on my bodybuilding PED days, I was getting looks left and right. Now, its barely anything, if at all.

I also really don’t want to go on TRT from my previous negative symptoms I had, just constantly having to pee at night all the time to my sleep apnea exacerbated from being on TRT.

That’s what I plan to do. A part of me really regrets ever going on gear to begin with in my early use days from bodybuilding. I started at around 25/26. I really want to have kids at some point but feel like that ship has sailed. I can barely get dates and I felt like I could get them back in my PED use days. I don’t want to go back to that.

So now I feel like the only way out is to do train hard and do 1 hour of steady cardio a day to get lean again. My low test might really hinder my weight loss progress but that’s what testing is for. I’ll keep you posted.

I train for me and to look better than other guys my age. Your lack of confidence is what’s killing dating opportunities.

Bro, I’m 5’4…no amount of confidence is going to change thousands, nay milions of years of evolutionary biology or sexual dimorphism of mate selection. Absolutely wild of you to say that without ever knowing who I am lmao.

Not to mention, there’s more than a dozen of studies showing female bias toward height.

Not being accusatory or claiming to know you. Just have known, and related to, guys your height where that isn’t an issue. My 5’3” grandfather would be with coworkers and you could tell they respected him. I few friends have height disparity with spouse, wives taller, and if you ask wives what was the spark “attitude” not the loud & overbearing type. I could continue with examples but doesn’t really make a difference. Do what’s good for you, just saying you’re not the first person to go through this and there are solutions out there.

Good Luck

There are also studies that show a majority (+80%) of women don’t find “big” muscles on a guy attractive BUT the women who do find it attractive also have a higher than average sex drive. Score.

Hey, you’re 65 pounds overweight based on BMI (I understand the limitations of BMI, but it’s largely a valid metric). You can fix that if not your height.

Weight loss can positively affect insulin sensitivity and apnea - not to mention self confidence. I would start with diet and exercise.

This is exactly right . At 5’4 that is heavy 200lbs your going to probably have sleep apnea so staying fit can be low test for sure and lose fat with cardio and look amazing . As with the height thing there are a lot of hot women that are short dude . A lot of cuties . And women that judge height trust me you don’t want them anyways . I’m 5’7 and my wife is 5’10 and way better looking I thought I could get

If you are hypogonadal then your quality of life will be better with real TRT.

What was your TRT dose?

Good.

Lookism and heightism are overblown.
