Coan = 2281
Mash = 2204

Not Coans best hence he was not in his best form ever…

Also not 2500 infact nearly 300 off

Some badass numbers nonetheless. Thanks for that info.

Thanks for the info. I was pulling for Coan, I have been a fan of his for awhile. I think Brian Siders won the event.

It’s this simple. If you’re powerlifting, then gear is pretty much a requirement to put up a competitive total. It will bring up your base strength slightly due to the relatively extra heavy poundage, but not that much overall.

If you want a good gauge of overall strength, look at the one event where gear does very little to help you, the deadlift. It’s the main reason why the record in that event has gone up minimally in the last 20 years.

If you want to see good raw strength, then watch strongman, where equipment is kept to a minimum, and is actually in line to be phased out on the amatuer level.

If you just want to see some heavy ass lifts, no matter what, then watch powerlifting. Either way, in my opinion, it can’t be beat.

If you Dont like gear then go watch tennis or pingpong. The way I see it gear and powerlifting go hand in hand. Hey a squat suit is much safer then tennis balls behind your knees(this was actully done no Lying back before the singet was mandatory) It’s a 181 record in the USPF!

Gumba - I remember hearing about that - It was back in the 70’s or 80’s when knee wraps were still basically ace bandages!!! Guys, also - one of the most important things to remember is that technology in every sport has changed over the years. Hell, just look at the baseball gloves and balls from the 30’s and compare them to today - but that’s a whole different argument!!!
