TM79's Training Journal

Thanks Shane. I need to be several hundred in the red to start making some progress but I doubt that’s going to happen anytime soon. Yeah, hope to go get a few waves!

LISS: 0.5 Miles, 10:00, 100 Cals

Conditioning: Metcon
Half Collin
3 rounds for time of:
400-m sandbag carry (Sub 200-M LISS with 40 lb Backpack)
12 push presses, 95 lb
12 box jumps (Sub Goblet Box Squats, 40 lb)
12 sumo deadlift high pulls, 95 lb

Stats: 22:17, 269 Cals, 141 BPM

LISS: 1 Mile, 20:00, 220 Cals

Comments: Miracles do happen. Finally had a light dinner last night and zero candy yesterday.

Metcon: I’ve been sitting on this one for a while. That was a really good one. I subbed some things, as usual, but it still got the job done. Looked it up and I did 4 rounds of this back on 2/28/17. That day I did a backpack 400-meter walk, 115 lb PP and box jumps. I did 4 rounds in 33:00. Today’s effort was pretty comparable.

Well, the school board just dropped the mask mandate again. My bet is that we are all sick as a dog by this time next week. We shall see… Hoping to go surfing today. It is waist to chest high this morning, even with the high tide. My guess is that it builds some throughout the day.

Great job winning the calorie war yesterday!

Solid metcon today as well. That looked like a good one. :sunglasses:

Hopefully you guys don’t get sick. With kids it is kind of hard to keep colds and flu out of the house this time of year.

Good luck catching some waves today.

Thanks Shane. The biggest surprise in that metcon was how easily the SDHPs went up. 95 lbs seems like a lot for those but it went up pretty easily. LISS with a 40 lb backpack sucks like hell. The only thing that kept me going was thinking that even with the backpack, I still weighed less than you and you do LISS. Lol. Yeah, I hope we do OK as far as being sick. Other than covid we haven’t really been sick for almost two years. Not even a cold. So yeah, we’re screwed. Ha ha ha… :grimacing:

Comments: I ended up surfing yesterday afternoon for the first time in over a month. It was waist to chest high and really fun. My paddling muscles have gone to shit though. I was the only one out not wearing a hood (because I don’t have one and all the stores are out). On a few paddle outs I was duck diving 5+ times and ended up with an ice cream headache…

Yesterday morning my daughter puked at her desk at school so she was sent home. She slept the rest of the day and ended up with a 103-degree fever last night. She woke up fine this morning, thankfully. So far, the rest of us are doing OK. I hope we manage to dodge that! Either way, my stomach has felt kind of crappy since yesterday morning. Not to the point of puking, but just kind of crappy… I used that to my advantage last night and ate a lighter dinner. That, coupled with the surf session and I was way ahead on the calories. The scale showed it this morning. I am down 3 pounds in two days. I even subtracted 300 calories from my surf session for this estimate as I feel like it drastically overstates my calories while surfing.

Just LISS and Bro Work out here this morning. Hoping to go surf again this afternoon. It is head high+ out there today.

I am glad I can be of some inspiration, even if it for being fat. :joy::rofl:

Brain freeze because your head went under water? I didn’t even know that could happen. Damn!

Sorry to hear about your daughter. Hopefully it passes by everyone else in the family.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

Ha ha, I’m not saying you’re fat. You’re just a big dude, and I need all the inspiration I can get. :joy: Oh yes, the brain freeze is a very real part of surfing in the winter. I’m not even sure if the hood helps that much as I’ve barely ever worn one in the past. I’d be willing to try it though. Yeah, thought my daughter was out of the woods but she ended up with another fever today and was back in bed most of the day. So far we are all good but I am counting my blessings…

Yesterday’s Net: -600

Conditioning: Distance Run. Outdoor. Paved.
5 Miles, 42:57, 8:35 Pace, 164 BPM, 161 SPM

Comments: Haven’t seen that number on the scale in a long time. It isn’t surprising though. I’m almost an entire day’s worth of calories in the red over the last few days. Surfed yesterday too. The wind was hard side/offshore and I paddled against the drift nearly constantly just to stay in the same place. Torched a lot of calories doing that and hopefully built up those paddling muscles some.

Run: Back to winter for this one. Temp was in the low 40’s with a wind chill in the upper 30’s. Put on some thermals and a toboggan and that kept me warm. That was about 30 seconds faster than last week’s t run. I’ll take it.

You’re not saying but I am. LoL.

That’s crazy about brain freeze and surfing. I guess it makes sense. Sorry to hear about you daughter.

Hope you guys get through it quickly.

Great job on the weight loss!

Thanks man. She seems to be doing better but now I think our son has it. So far me and the wife are in the clear… :grimacing:

Comments: Fasting for about 18 hours for this. Have been arguing with my wife for a few hours too leading up to this. Our daughter woke up puking all over her bed twice last night so I am feeling pretty depleted. Probably not the ideal scenario for the heaviest session of this month.

Session: Strength was obviously rough. Went ahead and did the main three lifts together today. Despite being almost dizzy at the beginning of this, I hung in there and did fairly well. That leaves only OHP and Pull-ups for tomorrow morning.

Comments: Finally got a good night of sleep last night. Was feeling pretty decent for this one. Had some good sets in there. I supersetted in some LISS with OHP/Pull-ups as well to get the total up to 1 mile. So about 5 minutes of LISS time is included in strength. Accessory was good. I am feeling those sets of 12 on snatch grip deads. The metcon was short and sweet. Done.

This is my downfall too – anything sweet I’m a sucker for. Some good work in here!

I wouldn’t eat sugar if I weren’t married. My wife is a sugar addict. If they did away with it everywhere on Earth accept for some distant corner of the planet she would find it and have it shipped to us. :joy: I try to resist but usually give in. Beer is my most consistent bad diet move though…

Beer is good for you! It provides the necessary carbs for recovery from training sessions. Or so I tell myself.

Agreed! The more beers I have, the more recovery I get to do!

Surfing. Blockade Runner. Wrightsville Beach.
1:14:14, 617 Cals, 128 BPM

Comments: Skipped the usual LISS and mobility this morning and went surfing. It’s hard not to when the temp is in the mid 60’s in February. The waves were about waist – stomach high with occasional chest high sets. I rode the Firewire Twice Backed Potato and had a good time. Caught one of the best lefts I’ve had in years. I actually got 3 turns in, which is rare for me on any wave here, especially going backside. It was a beautiful morning with only one other guy out that I could see. Afterwards, I accidentally mooned a lady on the street when I was changing back into my pants (wind blew my towel up). She walked by and just sort of looked at me like I was a hoodlum. Sorry lady. I’m a grown up hoodlum now, with a real job and real responsibilities. Just can’t quite afford a $2 million dollar house at the beach so I can walk right in and change clothes like you. Keep walking. You need it.

20 Knees-to-Elbows
LISS 200 Meters
20 DB Clean & Press, 2x30lb

Stats: 21:06, 256 Cals, 144 BPM

Comments: My whole family is sick now, except for me (at least for the time being). I was woken up last night from about 3:00AM – 4:00AM so I am pretty tired this morning. Going to try and get something in anyway.

Metcon: This was written as 3 rounds. The LISS was supposed to be a 200-m run, which would have gone a lot quicker. Also, the C&P were supposed to be thrusters, which I don’t do because they hurt my knees. C&P are probably comparable from an effort standpoint. Got it done.

Nice work while I was gone. Hope everyone in the house is starting to feel better. A lot of people I know are catching the good old fashioned flu right now. It’s always something.

That’s a funny story about mooning a lady at the beach, you probably made her day.

Thanks Shane. Thought my daughter was out of the woods, but I think she is psyching herself out about going back to school. She was fine all weekend and then, just thinking about going back to school made her sick to her stomach last night and this morning. We let her stay home today but will probably be taking her to the doctor. I spent an hour in her room this morning trying to coach her on how to work through things like that in your mind. I’ve had the same problem (and several similar problems) since I was her age. I think if she gets back to school and makes it through a day or two she’ll be fine. She is just going to have to learn to work through it mentally, which is not easy for kids…

As far as the flu goes, hopefully we can dodge it. It looks like the weather is going to warmup nicely starting tomorrow and stay warm as far as the forecast goes. Hopefully that helps…
