TM79's Training Journal

Ha ha, man I sounded like this all the time when I smoked… I don’t miss those days…

Mobility/Stretching:
20:00, 126 Cals, 94 BPM

LISS: 1 Mile, 20:00, 220 Cals

Comments: I’m going to try and start taking an active rest day in the middle of the week. Basically, just some LISS/light cardio and mobility work. I enjoyed the longer mobility session this morning. Honestly, I would like to do even longer ones than that but slept in and I was short on time.

Random Thoughts: It never fails, on each one of these stretching/mobility/yoga videos, there is inevitably a time where the girl does something that is so impossible for me that I just start laughing and do something much more basic instead. Today, she did some kind of move that caused me to bust out laughing. Then, I just stood up and started doing the basic quad stretch instead. Never was there a time in my life that I could have done what she was doing. :joy:

I think we all need more mobility work Trent. Good on you for knocking it out.

LoL at the yoga. I remember when Greg was posting his yoga vids he was doing from YouTube. The girl who was teaching them would be to much of a distraction for me to get anything accomplished.

Yoga is definitely tough. I have done extremely little of it but the stuff I tried was damn near impossible. :joy:

Ha ha, yeah, Greg was really into that stuff. It seems like when you search youtube for “20 minute stretching mobility” a lot of stuff pops up. There were a lot of dudes with their shirts off, and I have to admit that I chose a good looking girl because it is easier on the eyes and I just prefer that for stuff like stretching/yoga. Similarly, I prefer women for massages, etc. But if I were to google a weightlifting video, I’m clicking on the dude for sure.

Comments: We ordered thai food last night for the first time in forever and… let’s just say… I know someone who got a little carried away with the spring rolls… :man_facepalming:

Metcon: Felt good to get the blood flowing again. That was a good metcon. I added the push-ups just because it seemed like they needed to be in there. Done.

Springs rolls, yum! I always go overboard on those as well. That metcon looked like it would definitely get the job done!

I would definitely choose the girl of the dudes with their shirts off! No shame in that. :joy:

12 Lying Leg Raises
10 Straight Bar Curls, 65 lb
12 Reverse Hypers

Stats: 15:11, 95 Cals, 103 BPM

Comments: My pair of Brooks running shoes is officially toast. I got almost 6 months out of them, which really speaks to their quality and durability. I am hoping to run tomorrow but will have to get a new pair of shoes today. Hopefully I can get the time to do that. My feet are sore from the 1.5 miles of (cumulative) running that I did yesterday during that metcon.

Just some LISS and Bro Work this morning. On the CGBP, I did a slow descent, followed by a powerful thrust upward. My grip was very close as well. Good stuff. Go get some Friday!

Sweet bro day Trent! Nice work on the guns and that was a hell of a cardio dump.

Good luck with the running shoe search. Hopefully you guys are also getting some of this beautiful weather.

Thanks brother. Went to Fleet Feet yesterday and they hooked me up with another pair of Brooks. I love that store. Just got my first run since covid in and did pretty well. Like you said, the weather is amazing. I’ve got $50 worth of ribeyes to cook later. :grinning:

Good to hear you got your shoes! Ribeyes sound great!

Nice run Trent. That’s a dream pace for me. LoL. Sounds like perfect weather for a run. :sunglasses:

Thanks Shane. I actually noted my strides per minute as the guy at Fleet Feet said that 180 is optimal. I guess I’m either too slow or taking too long of strides. Those steaks were out of this world.

Comments: Watched the entire game last night and ate a bunch of salty crap. Had a hard time getting to sleep. Finally fell asleep around 1:00AM and ended up sleeping in this morning. Not going to get to everything. It was a pretty good game. Would have liked to have seen Cinci at least get to try a field goal to send it into overtime. The halftime show was a blast from the past. Couldn’t get over how old all those people look now. I even said to my wife, “you know, these people had months to prepare, have makeup on, wardrobe assistants, etc., and most of them still look like shit…” That makes me feel a little better. Ha ha… :joy:

Session: Legs are still sore from Saturday’s run. Got my reps anyway. Not my best showing on squats. Bench, on the other hand felt great for a change. Probably because I did so much of it last week. Accessory was good. All AMRAP sets definitely makes things more difficult. Ha ha… I wanted to do 3 rounds initially but was running out of time so I shortened it to 2. Ended up skipping conditioning. I’ll try to make it up later this week.

SPM huh? That is a pretty cool metric to aim for. Mine must be awful. Haha.

Nice squats and BP today! I enjoyed the half time show as well. All except for the new guy that I couldn’t understand. Poor 50 Cent, he is the Monday morning meme. Dude needs to get back in the gym but I guess the same would be said for all of us when compared to our young and leaner selves. Joe Burrow is a heck of a QB, even with that last sack he almost got that ball out to his running back. I am pretty sure you will get another chance at cheering for the Bengals in Superbowl with him at QB.

Thanks Shane. Yeah, I had never even thought about strides per minute before. I only thought about going faster/slower or trying to run in a way that decreases the impact (chance of injury). I usually focus on the latter right now, and go as fast or slow as I need to prevent things from hurting.

Yeah, 50 cent was looking rough. I was thinking the same thing. “Come on big dawg, better put a jacket/shirt on until you get ripped again. Leave that wife beater alone for a while.” :joy: The woman performer was struggling too. Think it was Mary J Blige? That was a classic example of, “just because they make a tight-fitting outfit like that doesn’t mean you should be wearing it.” Poor gal needs to drop about 30-50 lbs and then reconsider that outfit… :grimacing: Dre looked like he was wearing orthotics. Snoop actually got it right with the wind breaker/sweat suit thing but the guy hasn’t gained a pound his entire life. That’s pretty impressive for a pot head. Eminem has annoyed the shit out of me since he became popular. I’m just impressed he was sober enough to perform. And yeah, I was scratching my head at that one guy. Never heard of him and sure as hell couldn’t understand him. He didn’t look as old as the others either…

Yeah, Burrow looked good. Hope he ends up having a good career.

Comments: Whoever thought it would be a good idea to put the Superbowl and Valentine’s Day back-to-back can kiss my ass… Nothing like being wrecked for Valentine’s Day. Still managed to man up and have a good time, but I was not waking up early this morning.

Session: That last set of deads just felt weird. There was a wobbly, shifty thing going on and that is how random injuries happen. Stopped at 5 reps on those. OHP and pull-ups felt decent. More AMRAP sets on accessory work. That got the heart rate up. The metcon was nothing extravagant but got the job done.

I agree on the Superbowl/Valentines Day combo.

Good idea to stop on the deads and live to fight another day.

How did those Amrap sets feel on that accessory work? I know the deads had to feel like death. LoL.

I am feeling the AMRAP sets of deads and back extensions today. My entire posterior chain is on fire. Ha ha…

LISS: 1.5 Miles, 30:00, 300 Cals

Comments: Pretty good stretching/mobility video this morning. It was more yoga-ish. Definitely covered all the bases though. After I got back from the store I kept the garage door open and did some more LISS. It felt like Spring in here with temps in the low 50’s. There is a south swell starting tomorrow (which is pretty rare this time of year). So the waves will be big and the temps will be in the 50’s and 60’s instead of the 30’s and 40’s (as they are in a Northeast swell). Looks like I may finally be able to get back in the water after taking a month off.
