TM79's Training Journal

Thanks Shane. I love that LF plate loaded curl machine. It’s like the old fashioned preacher curls but with the perfectly placed handle. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Kick ass ride today man. Congrats on your 500th ride, even though it is actually much more than that with cooldowns. I still count mine BTW. Haha.

I hear you on the accolades. Definitely not what it is about. Way to get after it!!

Thanks Shane! :clinking_beer_mugs: Normally I count every ride too but I was trying to save the 500’th for a live ride. One month and about 25 deleted cool down rides later and I finally sucked it up and did a live ride for my “500’th.” :joy: It was fun doing one of those. I know we tried to do one of Matt Wilper’s live rides that time but I think we ended up doing a recorded one instead? Anyway, I think today was my first live ride. Not sure if you caught it in my post but Reggie Miller was in the studio this morning doing that ride. That was a cool surprise. I was telling my son that I “did a Peloton class with Reggie Miller this morning.” He thought it was awesome. Olivia gave maybe 6-8 shout outs and all of them were people in the studio. Oh well. Maybe for my 600’th I’ll be a little more organized and schedule it for a live ride with a more shout out friendly instructor. :joy: It would be cool to hop on some of your milestone rides too. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Yeah, I had been thinking about doing a post where I try to share some wisdom and figured today was a good time to do it. That video got a lot of views compared to my usual metcon videos (in less than 24 hours at least). It’s weird hearing yourself talk on camera. I need to quit saying “uhhh” and “you know”. :man_facepalming:

15 Minute 90’s Pop Ride – Emma Lovewell
4.77 Miles, 19.1 MPH, 211 Kcal, 138 BPM

Comments: I wrote this metcon 10 years ago in the OG garage gym. Back then, I did 1 round at 135 lbs. I knew that was too heavy for today so I did 95 lbs but did 2 rounds. That was about as deceiving as it gets. The upper body stuff isn’t bad but the squats and deads, even though they were light, really sucked. After that I hopped on the Peloton for a pathetic 15 minute ride with smoked legs. Done.

It looks like we are getting 8”+ of snow from this Noreaster. That means I probably won’t leave my house until midweek next week. As long as we don’t lose power I might hike to the gym once or twice.

That metcon looked awful. 40 squats and 50 deadlifts. :skull:

Nice pace on that peloton after that ass kicking.

That is crazy you guys are getting 8 inches of snow. Before you run to the gym you might want to call to make sure someone is there. LoL

Ha ha. Thanks Shane. That metcon sucked alright… The gym has the 24 hour access door that you can scan your pass and get in. I suppose that would work as long as the power is on. If not, it’s only one mile from the house so it isn’t too far.

Yesterday I made this image in ChatGPT of me and one of my buddies up the street hiking to the gym on Monday. (Used AI to give him slightly more muscle mass. :joy: )

That’s awesome man. I need to give the chatgpt thing a go. I feel like I am that old guy who refuses to learn new technology now. Haha

Honestly, I use it mostly to come up with silly images like this one. :joy: It is pretty useful for other stuff too though. When I search for random stuff at work it usually does a great job of providing a very targeted search result for exactly what I’m looking for. Last week I had to send an email to a client that I knew was going to piss them off and I copy and pasted the email into ChatGPT and asked it reword it in a way that was more “sensitive” and it actually did an excellent job. I then took their email and tweaked a few things and sent it.

A while back the guys and I were joking about “how amazing we are” and how our grandchildren would probably have huge photos of us hanging in their living rooms. :joy: :joy: :joy: So I plugged in a photo of myself and asked it to create images of me in various awesome places:

At the summit of Mt Everest

Victory Lane at the Indy 500

On an African safari

On my private jet sipping bourbon

Herding cattle on the ranch

Gambling at the casino

Silly? Yes.

Fun? Absolutely :joy:

We got about 8-10" of snow on Saturday night. Of course, I stayed up way too late staring out the window in amazement. :joy: Then, our power went out around 6:00AM so I went out and cranked the generator. Unfortunately, I plugged in too many things into the extension cord and almost caused a fire… :man_facepalming: Evidently a refrigerator, coffee maker and two space heaters is a lot for one cord. :man_shrugging: Fortunately I noticed the melting rubber smell and unplugged the stuff before anything bad happened. So I’ll just toss that extension cord and replace it. The power came back on around lunchtime and the temperature in our house was in the low 50’s. After this though, at a minimum, I’ll be getting a hookup so I can plug the generator right into our panel. I might look into a more heavy duty generator that runs on natural gas and can power the whole house. Living in a hurricane area that’s probably a decent investment. Here are a few pictures from yesterday morning. This snow was so powdery that I was able to blow the snow off the cars with the leaf blower. :+1:

I shoveled the driveway and sidewalk yesterday and that took about 2 hours. I kept thinking that I don’t know why people would voluntarily live somewhere where they have to do that all the time. That is a massive PITA. Someone on the street over from us built an igloo in his front yard. Crazy… I’m taking the day off from training as I’m pretty exhausted from working my ass off all day yesterday.

Heck yeah man. Look at all that snow. That is awesome!

All that snow shoveling has earned you a day off!

For the generator, in the meantime, get a heavy-duty extension cord. It might take more than one to run more than one space heater though. Those things pull a lot of amps. Coffee makers, believe it or not, pull a lot as well.

Thanks Shane. Yeah, I was thinking about it more from a total amps (for the generator) perspective instead of how many amps on each cord. :man_facepalming: I was using three 12 gauge cords but the space heaters were both plugged into the last one in the line. :-1: I think if I had run two separate cords for the heaters it would have been OK. We had them both on our coffee table in the living room and they were blowing on us while we sat on the couch. :joy: Even if I just got it so I could hook it straight up to our electric panel that would be a lot better. Right now I have a 6500 watt generator so I couldn’t power the whole house but I could probably have turned everything else off and at least run the heat pump. I dunno…

Any thoughts on solar with a battery, or not feasible / damage risk re hurricanes? I guess with snow/low winter light the panels might not be worth the investment either… 2c and all. Love the snow pics btw.

Still no snow in the Teton Range. Or very little. Resorts are closed. Good to see some folks get to shovel this year.

I was thinking about solar a few years ago and asked my sister because they had a bunch of them put on their house. She said it wasn’t even close to worth the expense for the panels so that was the end of that. But maybe it would be worth it to just have a few panels that keep a battery charged for situations like this?

That’s wild to think about resorts being closed in the mountains. :exploding_head: Believe me, if I could trade with you I would. :joy:

Comments: Finally got my ass back out in the garage today. Started with a metcon and HIIT Peloton ride. Then went to the gym and did Legs. Doing high reps this week. Got a fair amount of work in in 30 minutes and then hit the sauna. Done.

Finally made it to the office today. The main roads are fine. The back roads are still hit or miss. It’s going to be 50 today and doesn’t get below freezing again until tomorrow night so hopefully most of this stuff melts.

Great welcome back session Trent. It’s warm here today. Suns out and I was actually walking around in short sleeves today.

Hopefully that snow melts off for y’all today.

Our Govt here provides subsidies on panels and now batteries too. So for us our initial smaller 1.9kW system paid itself back years ago. Just signed up here for larger 8.5kW and a 24kWh battery, so in theory that should cover us with no need to draw from the grid, even in winter. The solar credits we get are very low now, but based on current power pricing, it’ll pay itself off inside 6years then no power bills ever again… hopefully!
