Some really strong sets in there Trent. Like you said, hell yeah! That is some damn strong DB pressing man. Very impressive!
Do you go into the full overhead squat when doing these of just snatch it straight up?
No, I just do the “power snatch”. There are some exceptional folks out there who can do over squats. I’m not one of them. Ten years ago I had a guy that was coaching me at Olympic lifting. I stuck with him for about 6 months before he finally said, “I think you should switch to powerlifting.”
I’m about as flexible as a steel piling.

Comments: Good session. I was short on time as I had to head down to Carolina Beach this morning. I did a Peloton ride and then put the pedal to the metal for everything else. Still got some strong sets in. Hoping to get in some conditioning tomorrow morning before a very long day of manual labor.
Nice work. Gonna go for the PR next time?
Your pull up numbers are always amazing Trent!
Nice work on the HS rows and belt squats.
You got a lot done in that 24 minutes. You must have been a blur in the gym.
Thanks. Honestly, I would have gone for it if I knew that 55 was my PR. Didn’t know until I looked it up afterwards. Will swing for the fences next time!
Thanks Shane. The belt squats felt a little weird after I wen above two plates. Might just need to get used to it.

Comments: Decent session. Had a pretty long and stressful weekend but went in and punched the clock anyways. Started with a Peloton sauna ride. Really liking the rolling hills rides. Then went to the gym and did legs. I kind of did everything in reverse order though. Started with accessory work and then did the strength work at the end. My legs were almost shaking by the time I got to Cybex. I was pretty worn out from the weekend so I ended up not doing a single superset in this one. Lol Probably the first time in a year or so I can say that. Might go on a walk at lunch.
I keep thinking I’m going to take a deload week but it never happens. Oh well…
Nice workout Trent!
Peloton sauna ride,
Garage must be hot huh?
Gym session looked great man. I love those cybex squat press.
Thanks man. Yep, the heat and humidity are definitely here. My SOP right now is to wake up, throw on “burner” shirt, then grab the shirt that I’m actually gonna wear to the gym and I put that one on after my bike ride/cardio in the garage. .

Comments: That was one of the most solid push sessions I’ve had in years. Started with a metcon in the garage, then went to the gym, where I had one goal. Do a lot of pressing. Mission accomplished. I spent almost 45 minutes on one bench over in the dumbbell area. Threw in some super sets and overall just went for broke. I’ve started trying to push my sets to within 1 rep of failure. I’m also trying to do that on accessory work. Good stuff…
I was going to say, those incline presses, right into military presses are damn impressive man. Hitting some really strong numbers there.
The flat db benches after the inclines, and military presses are even more impressive. Then you hit some declines to top it off.
Killer workout Trent!
That’s some good pressing. Couple of weeks ago I used the term Military Press in the gm and a youngster said, “what’s that”? I sat on a bench and cried.
Thanks Shane. Yep, plenty of pressing was done. Mission complete.
Thanks. That’s too bad he had never heard that term. Very interesting topic.
I honestly don’t know what the difference is between military press and overhead/shoulder press. Back when I first started lifting (25 years ago) the guys at Gold’s Gym at the time called it Military Press. That would be seated in a bench that was 90 degrees or pretty close, and doing presses with either a barbell or dumbbells. Back then I don’t think I ever saw anyone do it standing. Fast forward to about 10 years ago and all of a sudden lots of people are doing the standing variation and calling it Overhead Press. I did that variation for years because I was lifting in my garage and didn’t have an adjustable bench. Then when I joined my current gym I finally started doing dumbbell “military press” again on the adjustable bench. I guess I refer to the seated variation as military press because that’s what it was called in my old gym back in the day. The standing version I call overhead press. Any machine (Hammer Strength, Arsenal, Life Fitness, etc.) I always call Shoulder Press. Is any of this correct? I have no idea…
There use to be 3 Olympic lifts. Snatch, Clean and Jerk and the Military Press. The competitors started leaning more and more back doing the MP til it almost became a standing Bench press. So they dropped from the Olympics and all other comps. The MP was the same as a standing overhead press. Example of the lean.:
Thanks for that bit of history. Very interesting. I can see why they dropped it. It isn’t really the same lift if you’re leaning back like that. My back hurts just looking at that.
