Yeah….I’m not surprised I’m struggling to fall asleep tonight.
Oh well lol.

I never realized how much I hated driving 30 Minutes - 1 Hour back in college.
Walking
4.0 Miles
I had a great first day at work. It is great to have coworkers that diet. My lunch consisted of 8 naked chicken wings, that were door-dashed to me by coworkers. Work hours are 8 am - 5 pm and I only commute 15 minutes.
I gotta fly out to Atlanta this Thursday for some new hire kickoff meeting and I don’t feel like doing that.
I’ll have to eyeball improvise for this kickoff meeting and then next week since my manager comes back from vacation and apparently he’s a big carb and cheese guy. (I was told we’d be going out for lunch)
You know, I can’t think of better ways to cope with “working until you die” other than junk food and alcohol. I don’t even blame people, who the hell wants to exercise after work lmao.
Sounds like you’re in a great situation dude!
Jon Andersen describes this phenomenon quite well. People don’t plan, they wake up and don’t have a breakfast, rush out the door and grab a snack at the work break area (some sort of pure carb pastry). So they’re starting their day with a sugar spike and crash. Since they had no plan, they go out to eat for lunch, at which point they’re STARVING (they most likely had some sort of candy snack between breakfast and lunch), so they order something HUGE with minimal protein, scarf it down quickly, experience that 2:00pm crash and go for some sugary energy drink or snack to get them to dinner. With no plan, they pick up something on the way home OR reheat some freezer monstrosity (frozen pizza, taquitos, etc), sit down on the couch exhausted from the day, scarf it down, chase it with some ice cream before bed, and repeat the cycle in the morning. It’s not even about soothing the day away: they’re just STUCK in this cycle.
In my experiences, some people in the work place will say “I forgot to bring lunch”.
To me, that’s like “I forgot to breathe”
Idk if they’re trying to wear that as a badge of honor or they’re “challenged”
Just read through a bunch of your log for the first time. Great work and congrats on the job. I’ll be following along!
I work in a corporate office and this always blows my mind. I work in NYC and lunch is like $20, I truly can’t comprehend people buying it 5x a week no matter how much you make.
Another corporate phenomenon I’ve noticed: it turns into a competition of who has the busiest life for many folks. Can’t stand to listen to it personally, but you nailed it here. They think they’re too busy to pack a lunch.
Congradulations dude!
La’
DR Capital Management.
If you have the handshake app you just might be able to find it.
Make sure to apply to a Project Destined internship as well. I have friends and classmates who got a good education in commercial real estate from that and used it as a means to get an internship or career.
I know one buddy who works at Greystar and then another classmate who didn’t major in finance or business, got an internship as an analyst.
@unicornsandrainbows As you can see with the sudden stop in logging my training I’m having quite a “week” myself
Great things on the last few posts! Glad the new job is good.
It always amazes me how many coworkers go out to lunch daily. You don’t have time to cook, but you have time to drive 15 minutes to a burger joint, wait in line 30 minutes, eat in 15 minutes, then drive 15 minutes back to work. How? Let alone the hundreds they are spending on just lunch per month. Mind boggling indeed.
I had to fly out to Atlanta today for some project engineer kickoff meeting.
So my work hours from when I woke up will be, 3:30 am - 6 pm.
We seem to have some sort of scheduled 4-6 pm “Happy Hour Networking” for this event.
Getting here was fine, the plane ride was smooth as well as finding my way. It’d be great if I could f-off at 4 pm though.
I did not appreciate the technologically handicapped taxi driver when finding my way to the office.
This day is the “final boss” for this week. We all have those days lmao.
Embrace these out of town trainings. Mostly because you can get $100 steaks on company dime.
I had two, one week trainings in Austin, TX at my last company. They bought me steaks and BBQ every night. Didn’t have a dinner under $50.
Oh believe me I enjoy the food. In fact I had some barbecue for lunch.
I just don’t wanna be around alcohol, that sorta environment cause I don’t drink.
These corporate happy hour events are usually pretty tame in a drinking sense. If you’re not a drinker avoid the activities afterwards, never goes well with coworkers. Get a plain club soda at happy hour and nobody bats an eye.
Happy hour was fun. Overall I enjoyed the entire day.
I just spent time getting to know some higher-ups at divisions of the company other than my own. They’re very very personable.
Man, I wish there was a way to study an engineering discipline. I’m not saying that because of today, because I met people that studied either construction management or an engineering discipline.
I just love hearing stories of how they used their engineering background to influence the design on a construction project from the project management or superintendent side.
I would totally have grinded to somehow study both mechanical and electrical engineering. (Well maybe not before going to college cause I had no confidence whatsoever lol)
There are ways….
…it’s something but can you really call that an education without labs???
Incur a shitload of debt
Maybe I can take the SAT again at 30 something years old and get an undergrad scholarship?
Take as many credits online at community college and then transfer, but still incur more debt
Depending on what state I’m in…get some kind of engineering technology degree, but you need 10 years of working under a PE to sit for the pe test. I’d be the dumbest engineer ever without building a foundation of math.
Lol excuse my ramblings
Welp, traveling by plane alone, gets crossed off the “adulting” bucket list. I’d absolutely do it again.
I got the full Dulles International and Atlanta International Experience.
We get one day off on Monday and everyone goes buck wild this morning. Well I can’t blame em, gotta enjoy every break you get.
TSA Clear?, TSA Pre-Check? I feel like an old man.
First time using this thing, and I had it for almost 2 years.
Same deal with his brother:
Lol I bought it (ninja air fryer 10 cooking functions doohickey), but kept it in the box for a year or so
I went shopping and got eye of round roast, chuck roast, strip steak, pork shoulder, party wings, and brisket. Let’s get somewhat creative!! I am sick of meatballs and I need to improve my cooking skills.
10/10 would make again.
It’s tender as it should be.
It’s cool how I can make pulled pork and pulled chicken with this too….Variety!!
Dude, you’ve opened up an incredible world here! I’m so excited for you.
