@dagill2 @Chris_Colucci
Are you supposed to be powerful and quick coming out of the hole on he concentric phase of squatting. I’m finding my tm tomorrow. I’m thinking I’m probably slow coming out of the hole.
Is anybody gonna tell this guy he doesn’t have to log the milk he drank from his bowls of cereal or am I the only one who’s gonna actually help here?
And what cereal?
Now I’m curious… is it a thing to not drink the milk in a bowl of cereal? Do some people really do that And waste the milk?
Alrighty Tim you’ve come a long way over the last couple of days or weeks.
Sorry I got carried away. Keep up the spirit, don’t overthink it, have fun in the gym, eat clean and wise, study hard.
That is great, I like the advice given by everyone around here, they are really good, and if you really really are willing to sacrifice everything to the iron then listen.
You’ve just turned 17 and you have a whole life ahead of you, you’ll soon start to study real hard, have new friends, you’ll be hitting parties and oh no girls as well.
Listen to @Chris_Colucci he knows his shit, and if you want to be mr. olympia or the new Ed Coan, do exactly what he says.
However if you are remotely like all the 17 year old I know, then listen to him, and incorporate it slowly over time.
First of TRY to eat at least 3 good solid meals a day (if you get 4 that’s good), you’re starting out really good with your cereal. I would throw in an egg on top on the breakfast.
Next try to remove junk food from two-three days of the week make it a habit.
When you hit the gym, eat some good clean carbs before, during and after the workout. Combine it with good protein sources a shake is fine, but so is milk, eggs and lean meat.
OH boy I got into a rant here, enjoy life, lift consistently and have fun while doing it.
You’ve found 5/3/1 and it’s a great program, but it requires the trainee to use lighter weights than he would like, and the trainee have accept it, if he wants it to work.
I’m not the best person to ask, but I’ll give my best answer. If someone with more knowledge comes along, listen to them.
You should aim to be explosive out of the hole, however it is the most difficult part of the lift for most lifters so it may not actually end up being explosive on a max test.
You’ve never slapped a Birdseye chicken fillet onto a scone? You haven’t lived!
I wish I knew about 531, hell just lifting in general when I was 17. @tlgains Just enjoy the process dude and good luck!
Mmmm, fruit with processed chicken, tasty.
Pumpkin spice cheerios
Im in shock that someone who has even tangentially physically related goals thinks this is an appropriate way to eat. You eat like an 8 year old left home alone for the weekend.
There are a lot of good articles on here about eating to support your training. Read them, it will make a bigger difference at this point than any changes you can make to your training.
205 lbs for 5 Squat
Felt like I could do a few more grindy reps. Please critique my poverty squat tm test.
That’s fine, use that as your TM. Consider some side on videos at some point so we can critique form. And by we, I mean someone else who actually knows this stuff.
Bench
105x5 125x5 140x5
105 5x10
50 reps abs
25 reps each leg lunges
I can’t wait for squats on monday.
This was a beautiful bench session.
Glad to see it’s going better.
Sometimes my parents bring home sweets. Do I just not eat it? It’ll go to waste…
My dad brought home two lemon cakes.
At this point your problem isnnt that you are eating junk (at least not the short term problem) its that you aren’t also eating any nutritious food that is going to support hypertrophy and help you recover from training. As far as im concerned carbs are carbs for the practical intents and purposes you are looking for, but you NEED to be actively seeking out sources of quality protein. Just drinking your breakfast cereal milk is not going to cut it.
If you’re not worried about your body comp specifically or trying to lose weight, eat the lemon cake. But eat some damn chicken first.
My parents bring home junk but they never really eat it. There’s still ice cream bars from a month ago in the freezer my mom brought home.
Bit of a pointless excuse and its still not the point. The problem isnt what you are eating. The problem is what you’re not eating.
Force yourself to eat more protein. Eat protein before you eat other foods. You will end up eating less junk naturally anyway.
If you eat 3 meals a day, that’s 21 a week. 1 lemon cake or whatever is about 5% of your weekly food and will have very little impact, if the other 95% is pretty good.
