Haha… You should look at some of the feature spreads I draw in MuscleMag. All my dudes have big (but short) legs.

What did the legs for my avatar look like?
LOL!!

You tiny bastard.

Answer meh!

I think that in high end restaurants where the bill is going to be at least few hundred dollars there should just be a house fee factored into it. For the family style/moderately priced places, it should be based on quality of service.

I base this mainly on the assumption that in a higher end place the wait staff is going to be good, and you know going in that you are going to be dropping some dough. In an ordinary restaurant though, you run into some that are wonderful, and some complete bungles. Fair is fair, and good service gets a good tip. Bad service gets a bad tip. If a person gets bad tips often enough, or such that it is hard to make ends meet, they should go do something else.

Do you have In N Out Burger where you are? In San Diego it starts at $11.00 an hour with full benefits. No tipping.

Damn good burger. This is a double double animal style. They also have low carb where they trade out the bun for lettuce.

Is it a true democracy? You don’t pay your tip until the end.
Servers should make a third of their current income because unemployment is 14%? That is insulting logic. How about you be the first to take this pay cut?
How about you explain that. And why would I take a pay cut? I don’t make extra with tips.

If you are saying you make $33.00 an hour, … damn buddy, you are making buck.
My meaning is that regardless of how it happens: the average servers wage is around 25-30 dollars an hour. Just because there is some place that makes way less and there is unemployment doesn’t mean that server doesn’t deserve their money.

That logical applies no more to a server who just so happens to reserve tips than it does to you.

As for my making of buck. On a saturday night I make maybe 38 per hour. But I put in alot of work while the bar is closed to make that possible so the average is closer to 25.

What a person makes though is irrelevant to how much they helped you. I tip because my bartender/server/barber did me a long personal service, one for which their salary does NOT reward them.
Maybe, maybe not. Just to point out what someone else said… where is the training and college education?

Fella…

come on… you do not DESERVE or COMMAND fucking $38.00 fucking dollars an hour to bring me a burrito. Get over yourself.

In any case. What I profer if a living wage. How about that? You don’t get to cruise on good weekends but you actually have to just do a good job all the days you are scheduled just like every other worker in America?

How about that? apparently servers are not that special that they save lives and deserve special treatment.

Idiot.

That drawing was never in MuscleMag, so there were no legs to begin with.

But hey, can’t vampires turn into bats and fly everywhere?

Sweetness???

This is about meals and wait staff. And the fact that I audit how much they actually make in tips.

Wow now that I know how much bartenders make on tips, I really dont want to tip lol

Because what they are doing isn’t working. The recipient of service is not happy, they are not happy, and there is no reason to continue doing something that they are not suited for.

The fields I’ve worked in it is always good to get rid of someone quickly if they are not suited for the job. Saves time, money, lives and limbs. I can think of numerous occasions where I’ve had to tell people to go home and not come back, but more often than not, they would quit before lunch anyways.

I don’t see why a restaurant would be any different.

How much are you suppose to tip at a buffet?

oh dear god don’t tip! don’t succumb to the financial blackmail that makes any other paid worker in america seem inadequate by compensation!
krayon wrote:

fuck me running according to the whining wait staff give until you bleed. Apparently they deserve more than anyone else.
krayon wrote:

I usually tip myself @ about 15%, 20% if I do a really good job.

so stupid.

Tipping is not necessary. I see how much fuckers make on tips. How about we pay a legal wage and no
tips?
krayon wrote:

I’m actually more inclined to tip at a buffet than at a regular restaurant. At a regular restaurant, my order will be taken, I’ll get a drink, and I’ll get my meal. That hardly warrants tipping any more than maybe 10% especially when compared to the number of times my table needs to be cleared while at a buffet.
MementoMori wrote:
You don’t tip your barber either?!

Face palm
I do, but I think it’s fucking ridiculous. At a restaurant, I’m paying for a meal and tipping for good service. When getting my hair cut, I’m already paying for the service. If I’m not being picky or demanding, then why the hell should I be tipping for something I’m already paying for?

As for doing away with tips and raising servers’ wages, I have to say fuck that. I don’t like the idea that a tip would essentially be included in my bill where I don’t have control over how much it is. A server who brings me expensive food isn’t entitled to more of my money than a server who brings me something cheap.

All of that said, I pretty much pay my rent with tips. I’m a mover, and I’ve made anywhere from $2-100 in tips per job with a good average being around $20. Rather than make me appreciate the act of tipping though, it has been the main factor in driving my meal tipping down to a max of $5. If I’m potentially making $20-40 in tips for 8 hours of fast, efficient, extremely careful yet grueling labour while a server can make that in an hour in tips, then it’s quite easy for me to justify not leaving them 15-20%.

ah no. other jobs have hourly wages at or above the state/federal minimum, with outlined requirements.

Service based jobs, in this case, waitstaff- agree to an hourly wage sometimes as low as $3 an hour with the understanding that because their job is service based and their hourly wage so low, they can, if they try hard enough, make up for (at least) having an hourly wage below the state/federal minimum.

it IS a situation to which they all agree when they show up to work on the first day.

when you pay for your food at a restaurant where it is served to you, you pay for just that. for the food.

at the end, if the service portion was to your satisfaction, it’s the custom to pay for that, in addition to and as a percentage of the bill, and the socially acceptable amount is %15 percent.

if the service wasn’t up to your standards, you don’t have to tip AT ALL, and restaurants who automatically add a gratuity for parties of a certain number or more state so in writing, before you order.

it’s not a fucking communist plot to screw fireman, policeman, nurses, and teachers. those CIVIL SERVICE professions accept the duties for the pay from day one, because you as a person cannot be a productive member of society AND do all of those jobs at the same time.

food and beauty service staff are entitled to a tip because you COULD do that shit yourself, and are actively choosing not to. in the case of waiters, and most chain beauticians, their hourly wage is enough to scoff at BECAUSE THEY’RE COUNTING ON TIPS.

you have solutions for your, “I hate tipping” dilemma.

-in your preferred scenario, the price of your meal at a restaurant would likely triple, at least. unless the food quality went to that of McDonalds.

-don’t tip. be that asshole.

-don’t go out to eat. then you avoid the problem all together, brush up on your culinary skillz, and probably save some $$ in the process. win-win.

-move to europe, where things make sense.

Did you create this thread because you were annoyed or what? Most of how people feel was said in the previous thread I’m sure and has been said many times across the internet.

Sum it up. Most people feel tipping has gotten outrageous now but they continue because we’re scared servers will end up poor bums. The rest are split into two groups, either those that don’t tip at all aka Cheap Bastards, or those that over tip (usually ex waiters and bartenders) who feel mistreated by the world.

As much as tipping annoys me, I really wonder what is the point of a thread on it?
