Should You Tip......

At an Applebees carside to go or similar drive up joint? Seriously, what is the etiquette for something like that?

Pro-tip → It’s about the ultimate in laziness. Maybe they’ll shove the food in your mouth right on the spot if you tip well. I’m waiting for the day they deliver to your house.

Anti-tip → The interaction is about as quick as a McD drive thru. The carside delivery person doesn’t really do much other than hand you the bag, as opposed to dining in where they have to put up with all the stupid little requests and subservience for hours.

Not sure. I tipped her anyways because she was hot and her job dictated she be artifically nice to me.

You can never go wrong with tipping. Especially at strip clubs.

The only ones I may think of tipping are those girls on roller skates at Sonic.

I tip, not as much as I would tip for table service.

I would probably tip a little bit. Most likley the person who does the delivery to your door is in fact making a server paycheck (not much) so giving them 2 or 3 bucks is probably cool.

Also I thought this thread was going to be about if you should have sex with someone. I’m a little dissapointed.

If all they do is hand you the bag, why the hell would you tip them? You don’t tip the person at the drive-thru window and they have to open the window and put up with people asking for more ketchup, napkins, straws etc.

Some are. At my old server job, the “To Go” person got paid something like $7 or $8 an hour. They still appreciated the tip though.

Even after being a server for almost 2 years, I have no idea if I am supposed to tip or not in that situation.

What I don’t like is that now there is a tip line on the receipt at any counter food service. So if I come in, order off a wall menu, tell a line cook what I want in my burrito (Moe’s as example), have to fill my own drink, etc- you still want me to tip you?

I always feel like my food is going to be spit in if I don’t but I don’t know what the proper etiquette is. If I am feeling nice, I might throw a buck or 2, but normally I keep my damn money.

only tip people who actually serve you because they rely on tips as their income, others get paid 8$ an hour like every other job.

I was at a Not Your Average Joes and ran into the same problem. The way I saw it (practical) was they weren’t doing anything, the cook was, and the cook wasn’t going to see my tip if I gave the girl anything so I wasn’t going to tip. My girlfriend (compassionate) argued that they were still being courteous by bringing the food to me, to which I replied “Well then I’ll just go in and pick my food up so I won’t have to tip.” Which is what will end up happening next time I order food.

My gf is right though, they ARE still providing a service, albeit not as demanding of one as a waiter but they still are making it a little more convenient for you, although I find it awkward when they come to the window…like they’re dealing drugs or something.

Moral of the story, tip the girl a couple bucks for making the effort, but if you have a problem with it then take your ass into the restaurant and pick your food up yourself…

As a rule I tip any Non fast food Server. If I move more than they do no tip. And if I plan to go back I tip Very well.

I hate that. Even Dunkin Donuts has tip jars…why would I tip you because you stepped back 2 steps, turned around, got me a bagel, and then turned back around to hand it to me. Makes no sense at all.

I’m always anti-tipping.It doesn’t really make sense to me to tip certain service providers and not others.

Do waitstaff make a normal wage in Ireland? I know in a lot of Europe, that’s the case. In Massachusetts, I think a waiter/waitress makes like $2.75 an hour…the rest comes from tips. So if I’m at a restaurant and I get decent service, I’ll tip at least 20%. If it’s excellent service, I’ve tipped up to 50%.

you tip the bartender because if you dont and the place is busy they might never come back to you and then you’re screwed

.greg.

I hear so many stories from my friends who are waiters/waitresses where they are making 200+ a night working 5days a week from tips alone while I’m outside busting my ass off doing construction and only making 150. If this is the case for the whole restaurant business, I’m not going to tip as much as I normally do. It’s a job where they get paid to do a certain service. Take food from the back and bring it to your table. Why should I tip them when its their job? If you work hard and deserve it…ok, yes you’ll get a decent tip. If you just go through the motions I’m not tipping very well. Also there is no chance a fast food restaurant employee is getting a tip.

I used to work to-go at Pappasito’s, yes you tip. However, about 10% is usual as they pay no tip pool and do not have to worry about drinks usually.

Because waiters make 2.13 an hour and everyone makes at least minimum wage… Not sure how this doesn’t make sense
