Tiny Freak

Mashy, I love seeing your avi pop up in my log. Long legs are great for lots of things, but squats aren’t one of them. shakes fist.

Kristoph, I am always fighting a skew to the right on my squats. It might be a bit of camera angle. Next time I’ll be sure the camera is straight on to eliminate that issue.

Betty, no knee or heel pain! That is really the best news of all as spring starts 'round here. I normally warmup on the Concept II. The treadmill was just a lark.

Joe, I’m happy you like my film-making.

Ogre, I really wish I had knee cave wisdom for you. My current plan (which I’ve been following for a few months, with a recent break due to injury) is to do volume on squats with weights just under what causes knee cave, with forays into knee-caving-causing weights to test the limits. There is some gradual progress, but it is slow. I’ll be interested to see how you progress with your own issue.

Nikki, I would be happy to punish you with dips. Mistress Kimba standing over you at the dip station…

alexus, I’m crying about squats right along with you. That movement isn’t easy or natural for me either. But work through it we must!

veggie, my chiro had me do a bunch of exercises to deal with symmetry…which I stopped doing. Bad! You’ve reminded me to get out that info and not neglect this particular rehab.

Nadia, I’ve taken my squat and DL off of 5/3/1 for the time being to work on form issues. The only lifts that I’m running on 5/3/1 are bench and MP.

Powerpuff, the right elbow thing is a recent aberration. I’m definitely trying to fix it, and keep both elbows more forward.

So the outstanding news is that yesterday I went for a walk. Well, I told myself I was going for a walk and that if after 10 minutes at a brisk pace I felt good, then I would run for one minute. Everything felt good, so I ended up walking for 30 minutes and running for 3 minutes. It was a beautiful sunny day, and honestly nothing could have made me happier! My knee and heels did not hurt during or after the run, and all feels well this morning. Tomorrow I will shoot for 4 minutes of running over a 30 minute or so walk, and I’ll keep adding the minutes until I am back running my 5K at my normal 10 min/mile pace.

YAY!

YAY indeed. If you are happy, then I am happy

Hey! Glad to see that you are on the mend. Looks like you have a good plan to get back into the running slowly too. I love spring. Those warm sunny days feel so good after winter.

Hey Kimba, fantastic news on the running. You must feel exhilarated and alive!

Hey, good for you! its the time of year where running outdoors feels great.

Kim that’s awesome news, and I’m glad you’re starting it off slow

boy did I have a lot of catching up/reading/laughing/wondering about the Roman Chair/octopus’s to do. I’m done, and I’m sure work is happy about that.

Glad the MRI/knee/heels are doing well. Still working that dang knee cave huh? Glad you’re taking it slow on the running again and so glad it seems to be paying off. I see a 5K in the future for sure.

short short season is on our doorstep!

HOORAY for good news!!!

Keep that knee feeling better now - any idea what did the trick for you?

im loling about your new years resolution to not get hurt.

i dont think its funny you’ve hurt yourself, just the resolution.

and yes, im very very glad youre almost a whole kimba again. i like my tiny freak in one functioning piece.

git, I like the way you think.

LastStand, I find myself driving around town mutttering “die snowbanks, die!” I’m sure you understand this.

Spider, indeed I do! Happy that its springtime and that I’m alive and well for it.

Joe, the sun on my face (although its not yet the warmest) feels fantastic.

Nikki, thanks darlin’! Slow is better than no.

lil, my squat is still my nemesis. I’d stopped focusing on it during the last two and one-half months of injury, but now I’m back on it.

Frenchy, don’t jinx it! We could still get a snowstorm and you know it.

coyotegal, hurray! I hope your issues are similarly behind you.

George, mostly rest did the trick for my knee. I just had to limit my training and cut out most other exercise. It sucked, but so far (knock on wood) it worked.

CBear, I’ve rued the day a million times over that I wrote out the intention not to get injured. Trust me, I’ll never do that again. Tempting fate is SO not smart.

Yesterday’s training turned out to be full of WIN.

Squats (volume day)
Bar 1 c 5
55# 1 x 10
75# 1 x 10
80# 1 x 10
85# 1 x 10
90# 1 x 10
65# 1 x 10

All knees, all good.

Bench Press
Bar 1 x 5
65# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 7 ← Rep PR +2, butt came off bench for the last two reps, worst on rep 7
65# 1 x 13

So…YEAH! A real rep PR with the standard oly bar. I’m attributing this to my BBB pressing. Its really true: the more you work on a lift, the more chance you have of getting better at it.

HS Individual Handle Pull-downs
35 1 x 20

Dips
BW 1 x 23

Plank (with varying hand and foot positions)
1 x 3 minutes

This is probably my longest plank hold ever. It sucked.

Today is a sunny beautiful day, and I plan on 4 minutes walk/1 minute run x 5. Hopefully nothing will hurt.

Congrats on the bench pr. Things are on the upswing for you I can feel it. You’ve crossed your plateau and are due for a spurt of good gains. Enjoy your run.

Thanks Nadia!

Today I walked for 4 min/ran for 1 min x 5. A warm-ish sunny day and no knee pain. Everything I could want.

Love to hear that there is/was no knee pain… keep on the mend and you’ll be back to all that running in no time

I recently also did a 3 minute elbow plank. It did suck, and these things mess with my head. As soon as I lay down, I think dammit I could have done more. It’s a mental game, kind of like wondering about how soon you’d give up all your secrets in a torture situation.

Holy Hannah! 3 minute plank! I thought you said in my log last week that you hated planks. Maybe you should start “hating” other exercises if that’s the case. Impressive, super job!

No pain is a good day…
glad things are moving along.

congrats on your plank!

i (wussed out) decided to cut them at 2:00. once i can do 3 of them (i’m very bad with doing them) then i’ll start weighting them. anything after 60 seconds feels like torture to me. unless the guys entertain me to distract me, and they aren’t very reliable with that.

Dahlin, volume is ALWAYS full of win <3

Congrats on the bench press PR, have me thinking of doing BBB now.
And those squats with no knee cave, definetely progress.

I hate long planks, gets boring after, let’s see, a minute. Throw some weight on your back

Awesome training as always.
