Tiny Freak

I love how 23 dips is “easy volume”. Looks like a nice training sesh. Good stuff Kimba!

Kimba: 23 bw dips! Wowsers.

And I agree with Print. BBB works. The volume takes some getting used to. And I started with just the bar on bench and military–and squats for that matter. Indeed, I’m still just using the bar for military. And after three cycles, I’m still not adjusted to BBB squats or DLs, but I’m making progress.

Joe, the weights were low but I was happy too.

Nikki, if I could share my metabolism I certainly would.

print, BBB with the bar – I could do that.

Maschy, my BW dip PR is 27 so 23 wasn’t that memorable. Yet, no weighted chinups or pullups for me!

Nadia, there is nothing to be lost in trying BBB for bench and MPs. Nothing else has worked!!

Today is ART, hopefully tomorrow is skiing.

hi kimba!!! those dips are freakin insane. u rock little lady!

If Nikki says that 23 dips isn’t easy volume, then it’s not easy volume, and most definetely memorable.
The Volume Queen has spoken.

As for your “twin” kim (I really need to get a pic of her without seeming like a stalker, you two are identical down to the glasses) but whenever she does dips, I think “The real Kim would have thrown on a dip belt long time ago” haha

Oh the fun I have at the gym.

your silly scale. glad it means you can eat a bigger lunch, tho.

Trust me on this, even doing the bar is a mental victory. I think that in itself can do wonders for self-confidence, self-esteem & the rt frame of mind. Run the 4 weeks w/just the bar. When you start the 2nd cycle, add 5lbs. It’s simple & productive. I know you’ll see a difference in your bench & your press.

hi deja! I’ll trade you some dips for some weighted pullups!

Nikki, I’d love to see a picture of my FL twin. That she exists is kind of freaky, but in a good way.

CBear, and lunch was delicious. As was last night’s dinner (peppered swordfish, crab risotto and steamed veggies).

print, I am convinced! Some BBB is on the agenda for this evening.

So the beautiful 50 degree and sunny morning seduced me to try a run. My knee wasn’t feeling 100% out of the starting gate this AM, although it felt great yesterday before the ART lady got ahold of me. Sure enough, on the run the knee didn’t feel great so I shut it down at 1.4 miles in 14:22 for an easy 10:15/mile pace. I’m glad I went because this was the first time ever in my life that I ran outdoors in shorts with the warm sun on my face. But discretion being the better part of valor, it was best to be cautious and make sure that I’ll be able to run no holds barred when spring really does arrive.

Kimba look at that supper… crab risotto for supper! are you for real? my jealousy meter is through the roof.

Atta girl. No worries, you just needed a little help from your friends. I think you will find it (my word for the day) advantageous.

EDIT- Supposed to be 82 here today. Looks like a good weekend.

EDIT #2

I thought this was the place for this…Enjoy the weekend.

Sorry the knee continues to be a limiting factor in your training. I’ve never had an ART lady before (and I know you like and trust yours), but damn if I walked in with a knee that felt good and out with a knee that felt bad I would go effing ballistic.

Frenchy, that crab risotto finally was the breakthrough. Now I’m over my goal weight.

print, thanks for the entertainment!

Nadia, ART is kind of like a workout except you are lying there. When she worked my strained quad and back-of-knee tendon, they obviously weren’t healed up. That should have been my first clue not to run on it because the strain was only just starting to feel better and couldn’t handle any excess stress. Today everything hurts more again, so obviously I’ve set myself back a bit.

So, am I bummed out about running being uncomfortable - yes. Did I XC skate-ski for 45 minutes without incident yesterday? Yes. Could I lift yesterday without incident? Yes. So that is good. But I still want to do the one thing (run) that I can’t safely do yet. Why am I like that?

Last night’s training:

Sumo Rack Pulls (3 risers)
135# 1 x3
155# 1 x 3
175# 1 x 3
185# 1 x 3

Trying to be explosive and use my posterior chain to get the weight up instead of my back. This is 10 lbs. more than I rack pulled last week. And this time I managed not to upset the risers and send everything crashing to the ground.

Sumo Deadlifts
135# 4 x 3

Grabbing the bar with the setup on the floor seemed a long, long way down. A side effect of doing so many rack pulls recently is that my body memory on regular from-the-floor lifts is crap. These felt heavier and slower than they should have. I am trying hard to “squat the weight up” rather than using my back – which makes an easy weight a hard weight.

Bench Press (3’s week)
Bar 1 x 5
66.5# 1 x 3
76# 1 x 3
85.5# 1 x 3 <–money set, +1 rep over last month’s effort

My butt came off the bench during the last rep of the money set and the ascent was slow and ugly but I’m counting it.

Boring But Big - Bar 5 x 10
I am taking up print’s suggestion to try BBB as accessory work for my bench and military pressing. Tonight was the first effort. I completed all 5 sets pretty easily, so next time I might add a tiny bit of weight to the bar, maybe 5 pounds more.

And that was all the time I had. Today I’m resting my knee and recovering for a good effort in the gym tomorrow. Trust me, I really want to train but I’m getting the strong feeling that less is more right now.

It’s not only you, it’s human nature to want it all. And that’s not a bad thing. Keeps us pushing ourselves to be better.
You’ll be able to run incident-free soon enough. Meanwhile that 14:22 run is very awesome.

I’ll see if I can get a pic/video without seeming psycho-ish

Awesome pulling, and congrats on that bench PR!
I’m the same way with pulling, if I do deficits too long, I “forget” how to pull from the floor again and everything feels heavy.

Rack pulls looked good with a nice tight arch. Congrats on the Bench PR, its a game of inches.

I always want to do the one thing I’m told not to do so I totally understand about the running.

That is so righteous Kimba. Already adding wt. Confidence should soar.

Sweet on the xc skating and lifting without incident. If it doesn’t hurt, then all systems go, i say.

“Squat the weight up” - that’s an interesting way to put it! But it does sound right. When i pulled sumo, sometimes I would imagine myself like a rocket, like a model rocket that takes off into the air in an arc motion. HA! In my head it makes sense.

Woo hoo for the bench PR! I know those are hard won - congrats! I’m interested to see what BBB does for your pressing.

OH! And I forgot to mention - your back looks AMAZING! You were poppin’ back there.

Good for you knocking off BBB bench with out a hitch! It took me some time to get used to the volume. And I absolutely count ugly struggly prs too.

i know i’m late to the party, but i wanted to chime in with ‘wow 23 dips!’
nice rack pulls. i thought it was very cute how you were all color co-ordinated with the bar and risers, too
