Does bathing in the blood of virgins qualify as “some work”?
Sure does! You think chasing down and hog tying a spritely virgin is easy? I think not! Why do you think so many of us run sprints?

Hai Kimba!!! Great work on those chinups! You know I love it!
OH THATS Why you guys do so much cardio! <>

Finally makes sense! Personally I prefer trapping em.

Hey there…

whats up?

Thanks spider, Betty, lula, Maschy, Hallowed for keeping the log warm for me for the past couple of days.

Things that are going right:

 • Decent run yesterday, despite the cold and forgetting my face mask so I had to run home to get it. Hills are hard.
 • I got some sturdy Good Mornings and RDLs in on Wednesday night despite the weight room being a cluster fuck of resolutioners.
 • I haven’t (yet) and hopefully will not catch my husband’s cold.
 • I have managed to think grateful thoughts at every workout and run thus far this month.

Things that could be improved:

 • Spent yesterday PM in the dentist’s chair replacing a crown for the THIRD FUCKING TIME. The thing is still sore today, making oatmeal the breakfast of champions.
 • Was awake last night from 2-5 AM and realized an hour into it that I’d messed up my afternoon Starbucks order and accidentally forgot to order decaf. Can we all say “dumbass”?
 • A couple inches of snow is just enough to screw up the running surface.

That’s all I’ve got. With any luck, the resolutioners will not clutter up tonight’s training.

You will force your way through the puny resolutioners and dominate them with your might.

that’s why we’re de smart ones, right?

Kimba - own the space. resolutioners are like gnats: annoying, destracting and temporary.
Maybe bring some raid?

Joe, I like the way you think.

Apparently resolutioners don’t frequent my weight room on a Friday night, so hubby and I had the place to ourselves. I spent alot of time showing him some new-to-him exercises (front squats, rack pulls, DB Bulgarian split squats, pull-throughs) all of which he did great on. In between this impromptu personal training session, I did my bench day.

Bench press (3s day)
Bar 1 x 5
67# 1 x 3
76.5# 1 x 3
86# 1 x 3 <-failed on 4, this equals my PR so I didn’t feel too bad.

BBB 65# 3 x 10

supersetted with

Kroc rows
45# 3 x 10

I ran out of time to complete all 5 sets, but I was happy getting 10 reps on each side with this weight

Dips
BW 1 x 20

This morning, the snow cancelled my outdoor run so I headed to the gym for a treadmill session. 4 miles completed without falling off, and I actually enjoyed it! I went to the gym (the $10/month place) which doesn’t have windows or TV monitors, just focused on the screen in front of me and was not tempted to turn my head. This alternative can work when the road conditions are just unsafe for an outdoor run, which I hope won’t happen too many more times.

PS, Frenchie I love the cartoon!

Nice work, Kimba! Bench is solid. And a 4 mile run with no distractions? Now that’s tough!

I love training on Friday nights too! Everything is mine, ALL mine! Muwahahaha!

I don’t envy you the snow. Yucky stuff! But glad you got your run in anyhow. I have real trouble staying on a treadmill - if I put it much over 6mph I lose my balance. I blame it on the treadmills they have at my gym as I was able to run at 9mph on the ones at my old gym with no problem. Wonder why?

Anyway, good training going on here. And sorry to hear about the crown. I have five and one of them has been replaced twice already, so I know your pain.

Friday night training FTW!

Maschy, your avi is mesmerizing.

Cal, I think the actual treadmill one is running on does make a difference. At my regular gym, the treadmills are facing out a floor to ceiling window to the street below, but the view is mostly blocked by a big-ass TV screen attached to every 'mill. I found myself getting distracted by turning my head to look around the TV – then promptly falling off.

At the $10/month place, the treadmill has no TV and faces the front desk. Nothing to crane one’s neck for, and I did a good job of not getting distracted. It took me awhile to get comfortable at speed, but I probably made it up to 6.5 mph. If there is a next time, I think I can go faster and not fall off.

Patch, I totally agree. One of the benefits of being old and married is absolutely no pressure to be “out” on a “date night”. There is nothing I’d rather do on a Friday night than train.

Sunday’s training was a bit abbreviated, again due to some personal training of my husband in some new-to-him exercises.

Squats
Bar 1 x 5
to 4 risers and a step
65# 1 x 5
75# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 3 <–knee cave
1 x 3 <–better, concentrating more on knees out
1 x 3 <–better, but still not perfect

Obviously, I’m still fighting with knee cave. My glute-ham tie-in is DOMSy today though, so as long as I’m working the correct muscles to keep everything back there perky, I’m not wasting my time.

Front squats
65# 1 x 5
75# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 3 <—knee cave here too, a bit

Seated good-morning
75# 1 x 5

I was happy about these, low enough and decent form. I’m doing them in the squat rack as opposed to the bench set-up and it works fine.

Today is a rest day.

It looks like you are winning the knee cave war even if it isn’t perfect just yet.

Yeah, that could be it. The machines at my gym have huge consoles whereas at my old gym they just had sidebars (with the controls on one side) and faced mirrors. I could run on those no problem, but not on the ones with the consoles in the way.

I’m not old… nor married… but love friday night at the gym. Should I be worried?

Joe, I love how positive you are. The knee cave war and I are at stalemate. I’ve come to the conclusion that I have structural issues in my body that make squatting difficult for me. At some point, I probably need to find a knowledgeable coach that can help me with that. In the meantime, I’ll just keep plugging away.

Cal, today is sunny and almost 50 degrees. I hope this weather continues (knock on wood) so that I don’t have to master treadmill running. But I’m happy to have made the first step in conquering my treadmill demons.

Patch, you should not be worried. Your priorities are exactly right.

Nice work - kimba

nice seated Gm’s your arms and upper back look very tight

glad you and knee cave are at a cease fire

I SO want to go running after reading your log
I loved loved loved running in cold weather
(but really I had no choice)

face mask and tiny screws in shoes a must.

kmc, face mask is a must…but not today because it was freaking 50 degrees F outside. Sweet! Its unlikely that I would run outside if the streets are snowy/icy enough to need screws. I’m a blind klutz and would totally fall off a curb, break my ankle and then be laid up for months. Better for me to head to a treadmill (and not fall off THAT).

Today’s training was a 4 mile run. My goal was to run the first mile as a warmup, hit an 8:54 min/mile pace during the middle 2 miles and then run the last mile easy. I ran the first mile slow-ass (9:34), thought I was trying harder on the second mile (9:01), then just all-out hauled ass for the final two miles (8:32 and 8:49) to meet my goal. My legs felt like lead today, but I got it done.

Nice tempo run. An 8:32 mile is smoking!

Thanks Nadia. I just didn’t feel like doing my scheduled 8 x 400 when that would mean suffering instead of enjoying a rare January sunny, warm day.

The repeat 400s take a toll–both physically and mentally. My gymnastics background gets cited a lot as to why I have been able to make good progress with the weights–but being a runner–that builds character.

A max effort lift takes seconds. Even repping the shit out of dls your done in less than a minute. A 400, run hard, is a test of strength, endurance, and will. A prescription for badassery.

Nice run there.

It was 70+ degrees yesterday here so we are enjoying the nice weather but it is being bookened by tornados it looks like.
