I heard you were sick. I brought soup and whisky.
Not sure if you like whisky but I do so there is no risk of it going to waste.

I am all for taking time off to get bettah.
so get bettah!
then take it to the limit!
Rest and Chicken soup, and we always drink Sprite. I don’t know why. That’s what my mom did.
If your lungs are really taking a hit, get yourself to a Dr., Kimba. Better to be safe than sorry.
Nadia, as soon as my energy comes back I’ll be back on the running. I’m crossing my fingers for Saturday. BTW, the pseudoephedrine works fabulously just as it is. No cooking needed.
Joe, I’ve been trying to take your advice. But our definitions of heavy eating are likely quite different. Extra almonds and fruit FTW!
Maschy, you make me laugh! Both here and in CBear’s log. Thanks for cheering on my recovery. Hot lavender bath, with bubbles…for the steam of course! You are invited, of course!
Git, I love me some whisky and I’m happy to take some off your hands. Some for you, some for me.
Edgy, I’m very busy getting bettah…at least I hope I am between all the sneezing fits. I do believe an Eagles album was the second album I ever bought as a young 'un. Greatest Hits, I think.
PP, Sprite! Now there is a blast from the past. Actually my mom used 7-Up. My lungs are still OK, its my stuffed up nose. I’m doing everything possible to keep this crud AWAY from my lungs, cause if it devolves down there I’m sunk.
The highlight of my day was going to ART. My knee feels great, so that is today’s good news. This rest can only help that poor hinge.
Excellent news about the knee. The stuffed nose will be history in a day or two.
yay for pseudo-ephedrine. sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well. i can never be sure if my body gets sick to tell me to deload or if i feel like a deload because i’m sick. still, everyone needs a deload sometimes, i reckon. really do hope you are feeling better soon.
Really fantastic to hear that your knee is feeling so great. Typical that your knee is good and the rest of you is sick
Lots of sick folks coming into the office this week. Change of seasons is a toughie for many. Glad that you’re working hard despite and resting as needed too. Smart Kimba. Feel better!
my professional medical opinion is-
claritin- antihistamine, least amt of drowsy on the market. dries up the mucus production. can take 1 tab every 12 hours for the first 2 days. (plenty of water- cut down on the caffeine drinks, if ur a whore for em like me)
decongestant- opens up the airways. lotsa options, here. and youre about 1/2 my bw, so i dunno how the doses would effect you, but i like:
bronkaid- combo decongestant and expectorant- any shit in or near your lungs is goin nowhere, and while the claritin is turning down the faucet on mucus production, the expectorant will keep that gunk liquid-y enough to blow out.
pseudoephedrine- available from 30mg to 240 mg tablets, this is one of the most popular drugs, and not just for maschy’s grandma. bc of the small doses available it can be toyed with more than the others. i still like bronkaid better.
anti-inflammatories- yeah you’re gonna need these even if you dont have a bodyache (didnt read that) pick your poison- aleve (naproxen) or advil/motrin (ibuprofen) or asprin. aleve is 8-12 hour dosing, ibuprofen is 4-12 hour dosing (depends on you) and asprin is… fuck. once or twice a day, i think.
my PERSONAL favorite combo (not including the minerals i already take)-
claritin, bronkaid, ibuprofen.
with orange juice and matzoh ball soup.
feel better, tiny freak ninja.
(and disregard if you already have all your shit together. i worked today so im still in helper mode)
Awesome news about the knee.
Your immune system is working just as hard as you do in the gym to get you better, I’m sure.
Fruit orgy!
another thing I do when sick is take a nice hot shower 3 times a day - clears up the sinus, relaxes muscles and washes away germs. Baths make my temperature sky rocket and stay there for too long but a 5-10 min shower hits the spot just right.
Plenty of extra strength aspirin, OJ and for the breathing the lemon flavoured Halls which taste like hell once your sinuses clear up. I actually developed a way of sleeping with them in my mouth as a kid so I could breath.
Feel better soon ![]()
peels back covers, rubs kimba’s shoulder…
How are you feeling hon?
The crud is going around this house and technically I’m next in line…but I REFUSE I tell ya!!
Hey everybody! Betty woke me up…yawn, stretch yawn…
I’m actually feeling pretty good…still a bit stuffed up and energy is a little low but overall I’m not gonna bitch (as much as I enjoy it). This weekend was run run run to put on our big Mother’s Day brunch. I figure, I’m not a mom so I might as well do the heavy lifting hostess work on Mother’s Day.
There was a small accident when I fell into a bowl of french onion dip with a mouth full of Lay’s potato chips. My own personal Kyrptonite.
I did train on Friday night as usual, but really dialed it back. Did some easy sumo deadlifts up to triples at 135, then sat my ass down to do seated DB shoulder work.
On Saturday, I did Week 4/Day 2 of C25K and unfortunately had an achey knee for the half of the run. It was achey for awhile afterwards, but it went mostly away the next day and is completely gone today. We’ll see what tomorrow’s run brings. To say I was bummed out to have knee issues return during these easy run/walks is an understatement…
On Sunday AM, I did a bit closer to normal of a training:
Squats
Bar 1 x 5
65# 1 x 5
75# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 3
95# 1 x 1 <–everything up and including this was all good, low enough and no knee cave
105# 1 x 1 ← OK
110# 1 x 1 <–some knee cave
115# 1 x 1 ← pretty horrible knee cave as you can see
I wasn’t actually that disappointed in the knee cave. I hadn’t tried a BW squat for awhile, so I wasn’t expecting too much.
Box squats (3 risers plus step)
Bar with band around knees 6/5
These are challenging for me and I gave up when I got tired
Bench Press (5s week)
Bar 1 x 5
63# 1 x 5
72.5# 1 x 5
82# 1 x 5 <–butt off bench the last 2 reps
This was weak, but better than I expected.
Then I ran out of time to do BBB, but probably wouldn’t have had the energy anyways.
Nice way to make a come back,
glad your feeling good enough to train.
do you do much clute activation work?
maybe some air humps are in order with your accessory work
HAve you tried widening your stance? I can’t remember.
Ah, you call that little hip lurch knee cave? That’s the problem I’ve finally conquered up to 105 too. You look fabulous btw. ![]()
looking nice Kimba! (for all my free eating mentality I secretely envy how good you look in your gym gear)
glad to see you back at it ![]()
Holy shit on the knee cave! I’ve seen you mention that it was a problem before, but I never realized it was that bad. I don’t know if you’ve talked about it before, but what have you been doing to work on that? Wall squats? Glute activation? Work with bands (squatting or bad girls)? Changing up your stance? I haven’t had issues with knee cave before, but I will say that glute activation work has done wonders for my form and overall strength.
Glad you’re feeling better!
you do look fabulous. i really like the color of your top, too.
sorry to hear your knee is still giving you a bit of grief.
your radio has a funny accent, heh.
glad your feeling better!
btw, I was doing planks which I haven’t done in awhile and thought of you. I start shaking after the first 15 seconds!! whats up with that? lol
