I too am not lurking anymore. We live by the same idea that everyhing in moderation is good. Actually applying that mantra to everyday life is another story, but I’m working on it too. I’m looking forward to hanging out with some amazing women who like to lift heavy and eat cupcakes!!!
side stiches are kind of random
usually its your diaphragm getting confused with your breathing
I cant even do 10 mins without at least a 30 on I am white like new sneakers or new light bulbs
Maschy, my suspicion is that side stitches happen for me when my breathing isn’t deep enough or regular enough. So funny, but I often get side stitches just walking fast around town. Crazy!
Joe, the fact that you have a creative imagination does not surprise me in the slightest.
Nikki, I just feel better with a little sunshine on my body. Other than my 20 min. with no sun protection, I’m very anal about keeping covered or sunscreened while outside. I’ve already had a mole go bad on me, and I don’t want anymore problems.
Nibber, welcome! If that is you in your avi, you’ve clearly put alot of work into training. I’d love to hear more about that.
kmc, what you wrote really helped me not freak out about the side stitch thing on my run today. Thanks!
Yesterday I was feeling like I needed a deload. It was that appropriate week of the month anyway, but I just haven’t felt recovered fully from my last few trainings. So, I deloaded a bit:
Squat (to 3 risers/step)
Bar 1 x 5
65# 1 x 10
75# 1 x 10
85# 1 x 7
I stopped when I felt fatigue start to cave my knees. Seriously, 85# is a weight I can fucking bench press. Ah well, next time.
Military Press BBB
38# 5 x 10
I was happy with this. Its the heaviest volume I’ve done so far. Next time I’ll add a pound or two.
supersetted with
BSS
BW 2 x 10
and
Pistols to bench
2 x 10
I hate single leg work with the burning heat of a thousand suns.
Waiter’s Walks (1 armed)
20# DB 3 x length of weight room each side
Heaviest DB so far. The 22.5# will really challenge me.
Cable Hip Abductions/Adductions
7.5# 3 x 10 each side
This is a PT exercise for my ITB issues that I need to do more.
Then home for a dinner of sloppy joes. I love sloppy joes.
Today I completed Couch to 5K Week 4/Day 1. Finally the program lets me run for a whole 5 minutes at a time. I paid very careful attention to breathing deeply enough and did NOT get any side stitches, for which I was very grateful.
Now, its on to the bicycle!
Excuse my englishness but what exactly is a sloppy joe?
I remember when I started running getting the stitches here and there and then they went away completely but about 6 months later (or something like that) I had a bad stretch where I was getting stitches every frickin run for a week or two. Then they just went away. It was maddening! I don’t remember well but I think I took some days off and that might have helped.
That is me in my avi- coming up on 2yrs ago. I’m THINKING of competing again once I see what’s hiding under this winter fluff. The last 6 weeks or so I’ve ramped up my lifting and doing short, intense cardio that makes me feel like I’m gonna puke and I love it. I’m seeing changes in my measurements so far, but I’ve got a ways to go. Slow and steady!
PS- I was once 225lbs- in the avi I’m at 125!! Toot! Toot! <love the sound of my horn??
<=== Is pretty sloppy.
Squats are the journey of a thousand sucky steps.
It looks like you are responding well to the BBB pressing though.
Cal, I do so love your Englishness. A sloppy Joe is a toasted hamburger bun, served open-face and poured on top is a saute of ground beef, onions, sometimes green pepper and a tomato based sauce. One of my favorite recipes for sloppy joes is here:
http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/sloppy-joes-ii/Detail.aspx
debra, randomness has so far been my experience too. But I needed to hear this is the experience of others because otherwise I’d drive myself nutso trying different pre-run diets and sundry rituals to prevent them.
nibbler, I’m glad to hear you are getting after it with a new goal in mind. I don’t know anything about competing, but I know its a hard road. That is a serious weight loss you engineered. Good for you!
Joe, my saving grace in the weight room has been my progress on the upper body lifts. Shocking, but I’ll take it!
Today’s bicycle ride was about 3.5 hours as follows: ride to beer garden for beer and a hamburger stuffed in the middle of a grilled cheese sandwich and beer fries (shared with hubby), then ride to Chinatown for delicious fried and steamed dumplings, then ride to the deli for a pastrami sandwich and cheesecake (shared with hubby) then ride home.

Sounds like you had a great day! What could be better than bike riding, great food, your hubby and beer?
As much as I hate deloads, there comes a time when my body just tells me “deload, now”. Yesterday was that day.
Bench Press deload
Bar 1 x 5
72.5# 1 x 5 <–although I was playing around with trying my 5/3/1 week over again, when this felt heavy I gave up.
67.5# 3 x 8
Then I tried for some BBB, but even this weight felt heavy, so I stopped.
Sumo Deadlift deload
From floor
95# 1 x 5
115# 1 x 5
135# 1 x 5
155# 1 x 1 <–back started looking less than stellar, so I stopped here
Rack Pulls (first time at 1 riser)
155# 1 x 2 <–my back looked perfect. My weakness is the first few inches off the floor.
Belt on:
165# 1 x 2, 1 x 1, <–these looked pretty good, but I was tired and stopped.
Barbell Hip Thrusts (shoulders on bench)
135# 2 x 10
Kroc Rows
35# 1 x 10
Then ran out of time and energy. Despite this, we went for an easy bicycle ride to get lunch, about 1.5 hours total.
I woke up this morning feeling tired and with a tiny sore throat. Its a sunny day and I had been planning to do my Couch to 5k run. But discretion being the better part of valor, I think I’ll rest today and see how I feel about it tomorrow. Its a marathon, not a sprint.
When the body tells you it’s time to rest, it’s best to listen.

I am very glad you took it easy. There’s a lot of wisdom in knowing when to push and when to rest. ![]()
Wises choices, you should try one of Get’s deloads, it’ll fix you right up.
‘everything in moderation’ is baloney.
You don’t get the kind of musculature that we desire by doing things in moderation.
Do EVERYTHING in excess.
that is the mantra to live by
my $.02
btw…Hi Kimba!

Frenchie, I carry my BF in my ass and I’m happy about that. So, the person doing that BF% test yesterday suggested to me that women shouldn’t have less than 20% BF. I thought that was ridiculous and told him so, and of course, there was no rationale explanation forthcoming to back up that statement.
any all encompassing statement is usually super lame. I believe the “rule of thumb” is women cannot sustain a bodyfat level that prevents them from menstruating over a long period of time and stay healthy. This may mean different numbers to different people. In general below 15% but even then there might be exceptions.
FWIW, A friend of mine who is into body building has been testing me with the calipers for years now. Once you get fairly lean, just carb depletion will change the numbers quite a bit, enough to make it meaningless if she tests me when I’m bloated vs. way carb depleated. So, I’m with you. These things can vary quite a bit. From the picture at the top of your log, I’d guess you at closer to 12% so I find that number surprising.
Hormonal health aside, what does matter is that you are pleased with the way you look. We all carry fat differently. I come out really lean on the caliper tests, but I carry more fat on my thighs and calves. As you know, the formula doesn’t have you pinch those areas. They are looking at norms for fat distribution. I will get way lean in my upper body and still have some fat knees and calves.
Hope you’re feeling better.
I love that you ride your bike to a bunch of places to eat and drink. All of the cyclists that I know do the same. What a fun thing to do. I am absolutely scared to death of road riding though… maybe someday.
Smart ninja for trusting your body and deloading. I’m getting ready to deload too. Sometimes you gotta do it.
now all i can think about are sloppy joes…damn u!
smart choice to listen to the bod.
Take it easy!!
Hope you feel better…
I always think that if Kimba does it, I should do it - so thanks for the reminder that we’re not invincible and that yes, even we, the wonderful women of the compound, need a delaod every now and then. And it looks like that deload was long-time coming. So good for you! You deserve to give you body a break and come back with renewed energy!
Except for the fact that your deloads make my deloads look like people from Walmart. lol!
OMG Kimba, that is one delicious sounding feast you had over the weekend! Hamburger stuffed in a grilled cheese sammich? Dumplings? Pastrami?! Swoon.
Get your sleep, woman, and boast that immune system! Feel better ![]()
