Time After Blood Donation?

I’m donating blood tomorow afternoon and I’m unable to lift in the morning before hand. Should I just take the day off or will I be able to lift later on tomorrow night? Thanks.

Thats a tough one. The safest bet is to skip that day and be sure to eat and much as you can. But in the three times Ive given blood in the past year, Ive eaten more than I thought was possible and I went to the gym. One of they days I set a new record on bench. I hesitated on posting this because I would never recommend it but in the interest of honesty… BTW, Ive never done legs on the same day as donating. I usually try and get a lighter workout in that day if its a scheduled day to go to the gym. But if you’re due for a day off anyway, just take a break and eat up. I should also note that Ive never felt woosy or dizzy afterwards. It just doesnt seem to affect me.

It’s supposed to be a chest day tomorrow…I’ll eat more and see how I feel after donating. Thanks for the help.

I’d take the day off. Not saying it would happen, but passing out due to low blood pressure with a full bar would suck. If you do lift, make sure you a well-hydrated as well.

I have done the workout after giving blood thing and I did feel like passing out about halfway through my workout.

I would say to take the day off, go home hit the soft tissue work extra hard along with mobility and stretching.

Thanks for all the advice…as it happens the drive was closed before my scheduled time…got my workout in as usual!

To add to this…one time I was moving heavy objects about 5 hours after donating. The puncture sites began bleeding again a little bit/itching, so it’s not a good idea.

Yeah that can happen if you have thin(and or low bodyfat cut) skin. As the clot isn’t as big as normal due to the fact that well… theres not much room between epidermis and vein.

And to the OP - you are not supposed to lift anything heavy for 8-12 hours. If you are pretty ripped and have a low body fat, i would even suggest 15 hours just to allow for a more resistant tissue from longer healing.
