First off, I hate basketball. Give me a sport where you can knock a guys head off if he comes in contact with the ball/puck.
I was reading an article about where a retired basketball player went onto a show and said how much he hates gays and is homophobic. He later then apologizes saying hes sorry for saying it.
After reading TC’s atomic dog book, this really seemed to stick out in my mind, ecspecially after chapter one.
TC’s 10 secrets for living well starts off with: DONT APOLOGIZE FOR SOMETHING UNLESS YOU MEAN IT.
Obviously, this guy is just saying sorry to calm the media.
Should he have apologized or been a man and reiterated how he obviously feels?
Im interested in what people think here.

I would have to agree with TC and say that you shouldn’t apologize unless you mean it.
I heard the sound clip of him saying “I hate gay people” on the radio. The way he says it is so matter of fact that he obviously does hate gay people.
Now, why would you apologize for something when you obviously don’t mean it. I don’t know. Like you said Easy E, he’s obviously apologizing to calm the media.
I think that he should stand by what he said and take the heat. If you are stupid enough to say something like that to the media, well you deserve the shitstorm that is going to follow.
And to think, I use to idolize Tim Hardaway and his “killer crossover.”

As a f@g, let me just say that nothing irks me more then when someone pulls that PR nonsense.
Look… own your hate okay. You hate gays, Mexicans, blacks, white, Asians… who cares… if you hate em then hate em.
Just remember that hate only begets hate!
And hating an ENTIRE group of people totally limits you as a person from learning and growing, and becoming a better version of yourself.
NOW, I have never read TC’s book, and honestly with the stack off books I have to read right now ranging from Chiang Kai Chek’s biography, to Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, to Pamela Anderson’s book (not bad for a homo eh?)I may never read his book, I will say that I have never, and will never, apologize for anything that I am not truly and heartily sorry for. Doing so is a waste of time, effort, and energy. Further more it is a lie, to yourself and others.
One should never lack the courage of their convictions!
And though it is certainly possible and acceptable to admit one made a mistake, which is not to say making an actual apology, it is never acceptable to appear weak and deceitful!
And yeah, easy… I agree with you and TC. The ‘dont appologize’ thing was one of the best things I’ve ever read.
If he actually does appologize and mean it, good for him… if he’s just saying it because ‘thats what you’re supposed to do’ (a la TC, again) then he’s just being a nancy.
Whats that saying, “Its better to be hated for who you are than hated for who you’re not.”

He probably is sorry for saying it. The apology would be consistent with the act, and technicaly, good.
What people are holding against him is how he feels about gays. You probably whon’t get an apology for that.
It is a lot harder to apologise for how you feel than for what you did.

Again… stand behind your convictions. If you say something ABOUT how you feel in a forum that will garner you attention, either positive OR negative, then don’t turn around and apologize for saying it because you potentially damaged yourself in our PC society.
I could care less if he hates gays. There are times when i hate gays (quiet!), and i certainly wouldn’t attack someone because they hate gays. I will, again, however attack someone who says something then is to full of cowardice to stand behind what they said.
He’s only sorry for getting caught looking like a dolt.
So what he offended people. I offend people EVERYDAY! And i am certainly not sorry for it.
Let’s look at another VERY public figure, who is internationally known and has caused international uproar as recently as a few months ago. Let’s look at Madonna. (AGAIN… QUIET!!! None of that OH LORD here goes the gay guy and his Madonna!)
Madonna has never once apologized for anything she has done, whether it was the Like A Virgin performance in 1984, the Like A Prayer video and the Pepsi scandel, The Erotica album, Sex book, and Body of Evidence triptych, the American Life video (Which she pulled before it aired because the anti-war statement would have fallen on def ears and out of respect to those who had recently been deployed to fight), her very loud political messages in her videos and tours, her crucifixion scene during the Confessions Tour, or her adopting of David Banda. Indeed, she has stood behind each and every act that was deemed offensive and inappropriate, even if it cause her, and her career, potential harm.

Well, I guess the distinction that I’m seeing him draw in that article is that he apologised for saying what he said, as in “I should not have said that”.
If he is not sorry for how he feels, which he hasn’t apologised for, then his integrity is intact.
A person can be an asshole and exist with their integrity intact, as long as they are consistently an asshole.
Would your opinion of him be any different if his response to public outcry was “I don’t care what people think, that is how I feel.” ?

Any other people who you can think of that has done this type of thing in the past???[/quote]
Yeah,Mel Gibson(even though it wasn’t to the media),Cosmo Krammer,John Rocker,Jessie Jackson calling NYC a Heimytown, and John Edwards just killed his presidential hopes by standing by 2 bloggers he employed that spit hate against Christians and Catholics.Of course, some hate is acceptable in the PC world,as long as its against men and christians, among other things the PC world deems unacceptable.

This won’t be the FIRST time that I’ve heard “Hardaway” and thought “Penny”…
(Tim, Anfranee and Penny have always been “mixed up” in public discourse…)
I hated Tim’s statements…but would have been even MORE disappointed if it was Penny…
(Remember “Little Penny?”)

Yeah, Little Penny was awesome, with Chris Rock’s voice.
PENNY!!! STOP THE CAR!! THAT WAS TYRA BANKS FOOL!!
Penny was my favorite player back in the day when he was with the Magic, with Shaq. Too many injuries slowed him down, but a good guy overall, I feel bad for him.
Mufasa, as usual, good job with the pics, I can always count on you for good pics. Keep it up.
I agree with you, it would have been more shocking if Penny said it instead of T-Bug, but nonetheless, T-Bug shouldn’t have said that.
