Tiki Barber for President!

I don’t assume I am the center of the universe - nor do I have a problem with other people’s opinions, and you know that.

Then why reply over and over and over again to me if you have no interest in the discussion I am having with someone? You say yourself you are not interested in the same concept as me - so why reply to me?

My viewpoint isn’t the center of the universe - but if you aren’t interested in my viewpoint, have a conversation with someone else…? You keep replying to me about a topic I haven’t been discussing, not the other way around, genius.
On a totally different note, I think you’ll find that I am not the one that has an axe to grind with respect to being a thinker.

Whenever I am accused of “thinking” I find it silly. I don’t peddle myself to the world as anything, I simply say what is on my mind - just like every other blowhard around here.

So, perhaps you intend that as an insult, but I can only really take it as a compliment. Funny, given the nature of what I’ve been arguing in this very thread…

Amusing, don’t you think?
No one is accusing you of thinking, just doing a really, really bad job of it.

Who the fuck says I am even interested in the same concept or topic as you? Holy shit, you don’t get to define what we should all be thinking about and talking about.

Hmmm…I’ve praised conservative and moderate black people for years on this site. I have done so in this thread. Did you do your homework in this diatribe, Al? Or is asking if you did your homework somehow a racial epithet?

You are paranoid and insane. I suspect you type this with your toes, since they won’t trust you out of your straightjacket.

Some things proven by this thread:

Headhunter is still not worth taking the time to pay any attention to.

Pookie and Thunderbolt could save tons of money by leasing out that hole in the ground both of their heads are occupying.

So far, we have learned that every compliment is simply a compliment and that there could never be any hidden agenda behind it when it comes to the experiences of minorities in this country. Isn’t that right, Thunderbolt?

We have also learned that society never plays any games as far as assumptions made based on race so using someone’s own biases against them is somehow against the rules if ever an action committed by a minority. Right, Pooks?

Some of you will have to excuse me for not wading through quite that much crap to respond to each overdrawn post directly. I left my shit wading shorts at home and I really like these shoes.

What we haven’t learned is the answer to that most difficult of questions:

“How should we indicate that a black man can speak eloquently and express his thoughts clearly then?”

It seems it shall forever remain a mystery wrapped in an enigma with a little conundrum sauce on top.

We also note, once again, that when Prof is unable to “win” an argument by browbeating his “opponents” into submission through brash unreasoned assertions, he’s very elo…, er, “creative” while running away.

Yep, from now on, I’ll assume that someone critical of me is critical because of my race. It’s not that they disagree with me or don’t like my position on issues. They’re racists!!

Standing Applause- Best post on this thread!

Thanks, Edders! The Paranoia Police don’t like it when you throw their logic back in their faces, do they? They can say the most vile crap about a white conservative and its because ‘That person is an idiot!’, but dare to raise your voice about a minority person and the racist shit comes out at once. You can’t even compliment a fine man like Tiki w/o the 3 Mouseketeers screaming ‘Racism!’.

Are they nice shoes, Prof? I’ll bet they are very nice. Wait…that implies that I don’t expect black people to have nice shoes. Or does it mean that I don’t expect black people to wear any shoes? I’m confused. This new politically correct paranoid world is so hard to understand!!

I think saying that someone, and in this case that someone is a minority, is articulate, eloquent, or whatever word you choose implies that you expected him to be less than that.

eg. saying “He is so articulate” about a random person you just spoke to.

Let’s take for example someone like, say, Steve Jobs. The man has a defining stage presence, speaks excellently, so on and so forth. Everyone knows he is articulate, but would you bother saying it?

Now if you were to describe someone as say, a good speaker, implying that he can talk to groups of people very well, that is fine, regardless of race/creed. Its a skill that is lacking in most people.

And if someone said to me “you are so articulate” I would look at them like they were a dumbass. Its called basic communication skills you moron, get with the program. It really shouldn’t be too hard to convey your ideas and message to other people if you have a decent grasp of the english language and can open your mouth.

If you can’t see why Prof X, Harris, Al Durr and co. feel offended by that, you need to think on it a little more.

This thread is made of racism and racists. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Also, you’re all so articulate.
Ren wrote:

You aren’t making any sense. You just said that calling someone ‘a good speaker’ is perfectly ok - largely because that person is being singled out as being better than average.

But that is exactly what ‘articulate’ means when someone is paying it out as a compliment - that they speak/write better than average. Calling someone a ‘good speaker’ and saying they are ‘articulate’ is interchangeable.

‘Articulate’ has always meant ‘better than basic communication skills’. Otherwise, everyone with basic communication skills would be ‘articulate’ - and that can’t possibly be right on the usage of the word. When describing someone in a speech that was quite mediocre and basic does anyone say “meh…he was articulate”…? Use common sense.

Now, for some fun under your theory - if you call Tiki Barber a ‘good speaker’, should we all presume you are assuming that blacks are ordinarily poor speakers and that the compliment represents a racist act by you? Again, just buy virtue of paying the compliment ‘good speaker’, should we presume you to be acting in bad faith?
Professor X wrote:

The only thing that this thread has proven - or really, just reinforced that we already knew - is that you simply don’t read what people post, you invent positions that no one holds, and you spend your time arguing with yourself - and you don’t even do that very well.

Go back and re-read every post I made where I explicitly said that not every compliment is a compliment and sometimes a compliment can be done in bad faith. I have repeatedly reminded you of this - why have you refused to read what I wrote?

I simply cannot make you read what I wrote, but I can ask that if you address me, do me the courtesy of not inventing positions I don’t have.

Honestly, I have never seen someone so ridiculously bad at debating as you - and your abuse of the strawman is practically criminal at this point.

Now, I know in your desperate pursuit of status and attention, you feel like you need the last word - but honestly, give us all a break. The good news is you can rebuild your fragile ego in other threads blustering to 160 pound 16 year olds about how every one in a mile radius is soooooooooo intimidated by you.

Personally I think he’s just winding people up and taking the piss.

And if that is not the case, then it is proof positive that a little education is a dangerous thing…

And that’s what happened in this thread?

You DO know that the FBI files on Dr. King are sealed until 2027 (I think)? I asked for a good read on a topic that is of interest to me. If that’s a problem for you, then sod off.

I have no problem whatsoever. As a matter of fact I think you’re as entertaining as it gets on the politics forums, and I choose to believe that you post what you do in order to stir things up.
Let’s think about the viewpoints you have postulated on some of the threads you and I have had discussions on.(And I’m going from memory here so please correct me if I err)

The most memorable one to me was where you waxed on about the total dominance of ‘European’ culture. You can substitute 'White"
in there, since you went on to tell us how Africa went to hell after the white man left since the Africans were incapable of doing the technologically advanced work of running power stations,if I recall.
We also discussed how you feel that Arabic,Chinese and Indian culture had contributed nothing to the intellectual upliftment of Man in general, and whatever you were willing to concede they had contributed, you attributed to the accident of there being one brilliant man at the time in those cultures surrounded by a sea of idiots.

Then there is the Caliph’s burning of the books in the name of Islam,an example you have trotted out a couple of times. This gets used to show us the complete lack of validity that Islam has as aworld religion.Because of course us Christians never burned any books.

So we have all other races, religions and generally anyone that isn’t a white, preferably Anglo,Christian, being portrayed as inferior.

So as I see it,when you post anything like the OP in this thread, the Dr.King thread and many others, everything that you have written before clouds the timbre of your post.

It has nothing to with content, and everything to do with intent.

But having said that,I enjoy what you bring to the forums and really believe you’re probably a nice guy and that you don’t honestly believe the vast majority of what you post.

So don’t stop!

Thunderdolt, have you ever heard of the word “contradiction”?

Some things you seem to be saying and implying don’t jibe with other things you seem to be saying. People seize upon this… and it’s to be expected.

I was trying to imply the difference between say, me meeting prof x and then commenting how articulate he is (why the fuck I would need to say that I don’t know), and me sitting in a lecture hall listening to him speak to 500 odd people. Not that it matters, you either get what Prof X and co. are saying or u don’t.

Well I’d say it. But you’d probably think I’m biased.

So, have a look here: http://www.mac360.com/index.php/mac360/comments/what_they_say_about_steve_jobs_and_why_hes_pissed/

…and note the passage that reads “While he’s a gifted leader, an astute businessman, and an articulate spokesman for his own vision…” Note the “articulate spokesman” part? Hmmm? Are you assuming the author is a black man being condescending towards Jobs? (If the argument had any validity, it would cut both ways, no?)

How about this one: http://www.xent.com/august97/0001.html where Jobs is described as “extremely articulate.” Not just “articulate,” but “extremely articulate.” Imagine how insulted Jobs must’ve felt when reading that! Doesn’t everyone know he’s extremely articulate!?

Those 2 examples are from the first page of a Google search on “Steve Jobs” and “articulate.” There are hundreds more.

So, Ren, please accept my sincerest condolences on the death of your latest (lamest?) argument.

If you read my posts carefully (I may not make it obvious enough), I say that it has primarily been European and especially British culture that has done the most to uplift the world. The British basically eliminated slavery anywhere within their reach, spread the ideas of the rights of man, and introduced capitalism wherever possible. No other culture has done as much for the world than the British (and Americans) and gotten the least thanks.

Nowhere do I see other cultures do things such as this. All I see are despots, tyrannies, and war lords. The world was a stagnant shitpit until the British and Americans came on the scene.

Do I think my culture is superior? Damn right I do! I’ll take it over cultures that put wives on funeral pyres, or eat their neighbors any day.

Does this make me a racist? Nope. Just grateful.

As far as I’m concerned he is exactly right with his position on this issue. And guys like Professor x are dead wrong. Forgive me Johnny Lee Chasidy but Prof x is “looking for racists in all the wrong places.”
