It’s almost a total mystery to me how anyone can conclude that calling someone “articulate” is somehow a racial slam.
Does paying a compliment to an African-American in professor x’s mind mean that the rest of the population lacks the quality noted in the one complimented?
Does this twisted logic bear out in other walks of life, or is it just the professors race?
Does telling someone they did a good job necessarily mean that everyone else who worked on the project were incapable of doing a good job? Or, that they somehow did a bad job?
Since when did paying someone a compliment denigrate anyone else? I think most people who do not subscribe to this twisted logic understand that good qualities such as articulation don’t amount to some strange zero-sum game. The rest of us recognize that when someone else gets complimented, only the most petty and insecure (professor x, and company) believe it has anything to do with themselves or anyone else.
It’s a pity that professor x has more temerity than he does good old- fashioned logic. If it were the other way around this debate would have ended many pages ago.
But then that would mean a concession on the part of professor x. And as we have all learned from his thousands of endless obnoxious rants he’s never wrong, just ask him.
