I’m an example of someone who has short legs relative to their height - but most of the ‘shortness’ in my legs comes from very short tibias, not femurs. For instance, my friend is 6ft 1in, and I am 5ft 9in, and almost all of that height difference is in our tibias - which is obvious as the top of his knee is about 4 inches higher than mine off the ground when we are sitting down.
Everyone talks about femur length relative to torso length and its effects on squatting and deadlifting, but what about the tibia?
If you kept everything about a person the same, and then added a clone of that person with longer tibia’s - how would that guy be advantaged, or disadvantaged in squats, deadlifts and even bench?
A powerlifting style squat (with vertical shins) would be unnaffected, but for high bar olympic squat a longer tibia would allow you to go lower.
Imagine both individuals at the bottom of a squat. Given the same ankle flexion, the person with a longer tibia will have their knees further forward. So that person can achieve more depth.
