Thoughts on Pre-Workout Coffee

Hi Ellington,
Just interested to hear your thoughts on using coffee as a pre-workout stimulant. Thanks,

Jeff

Mine is accidental somewhat. I drink coffee for 30 mins leading up to the workout (as I have just woken up), then finish the pot during the workout

Not a fan myself…as i don’t drink coffee as a stimulant

prefer surge for pre and post supplement

I will drink one or two cups before my workout. Usually in the morning. But I
won’t drink the rest of the pot after my workout.

After my workout I like to drink a glass or two of Fairlife whole milk. Probably
eat a banana too.

Yes, coffee is fine. And so is tea.

I found I recovered much better from my training when I stopped training in a stimulated state. I save that for competitions. If I’m stimulated for training, I dig too deep into my recovery well. Same reason I try to avoid emotional arousal in training.

That’s why I only drink a little caffeine. It’s just part of my morning. I drink one cup at the most two every day. Not just on training days.

Heck I’m 60 years old. Your point about training in a stimulated state and recovery
hit the nail on the head for me.

Being pumped up with pre workout stimulants would be a disaster in the long run with 20 rep deadlifts or squats. For me it’s a good way to set yourself up for some sort of
lingering injury.

I usually have a coffee or two pre-workout. Definitely helps give me an energy boost if I’m training shortly after getting out of bed especially. I do thoroughly enjoy coffee pre and Post workout haha

Coffee has been my pre-workout for decades. By default for the last decade. It’s just a caffeine delivery system. Tried and true.

I drink two cups of coffee at the same times each day, regardless of when or if I’m training. I don’t think of it as a workout supplement.

Are you wealthy??

Why???

Same here. Coffee’s more of a ritual than a supplement for me. One or two cups in the morning, whether I’m training or not. If it lines up with a workout, great. If not, it’s still coffee.

Surge is $$$$

Surge is $3.60 per serving, which is less than what most people will spend on a cup of coffee.

(Sure, we’re all probably talking about black coffee at home in this thread, but the point remains.)

Along with this, even with low rep sets I still saw this issue. It’s really no different than getting amped up to hit a PR in a meet. When we hit those lifts in a meet, we need a week off to recover, because we dug so deep into our capability that we totally overtaxed ourselves. Well we can definitely do that exact same stupid thing in training, and it’s not the TRAINING that makes us better: it’s the recovery. If you’re training so hard you need a full week off to recover, you’re not really going to have more opportunities TO trigger that recovery stimulus.

“Stimulate, don’t annihilate” was popular for a reason.

I only train twice a week full body, therefore, only two servings a week

not gonna break my bank account

He doubles up… Ive used it plenty of times. My coffee is like .25 a cup

What’s your FB routine? Considering trying FB 3 times a week
