The ceiling dose is 800mg at a time. More than that will not equal greater anesthesia.

Do not exceed 3200mg in any one 24 hour period.

People eating these things like M&M’s is why there are so many problems seen from long term excessive use.

I have been prescribed 800 mg twice per day. Is there any advantage in getting the high dose of 800, versus 400 mg 4 times per day?

Why would you take more of the drug than you need? If 400mg gets rid of the pain, why take more?[/quote]

I believe hes talking about splitting his total dose of 1600mg/day.

Instead of 800x2 he wants to know if 400x4 would be more effective.

Same total dose, but further splitting the dosage for absorption purposes or what not…

That is correct.

I would take 1600 mg per day because that is what was prescribed. Each prescription pill is 800 mg.

However, I also have OTC pills that are 200 mg each, making it possible to take 400 X 4, which I thought might give me more stable blood levels and maybe be easier on the gut.

I do not know if the doctors prescribe 800 X 2 because it is more effective or simply because patients comply better with fewer doses per day. It sounded like you might know, so I asked you.

so whats everyones thoughts on painkillers like percocet and vicodin? they arent NSAIDS so as far as absolutely for the sake of alieving pain in condition with the demands of bodybuilding these are fine to take?

Why bother with pain killers if they aren’t anti-inflammatories ?

Are you really in that much pain from your workouts ? If you are you may need to see a doc.

Id rather feel when I get a minor injury and not just cover it up and keep pushing till I need rotator cuff or knee surgery.

Pain is your friend.

i think percocet and vicodin both have acetaminophen in them which can really mess up your stomache in the long run. They both also contain opiates, so they are not something to mess around with.

I’ve been prescribed vicodin before, and have hardly ever needed to use it. Ibuprofen was just fine. If your bodybuilding requires prescription meds, you are doing something wrong or have an injury. Go to the doctor. Otherwise, quit being a pussy. Abusing any drug is stupid.

im not always in pain. ive made it 2 or 3 or however long ive been lifting without taking a break in constant pain every day, limping around, taking super-extra long to put on a shirt, not being able to bend over to pick somethign up.

but you get sick of it after a while. theres something sore on me everyday and i usually dont mind it.

also when youre on something you can push yourself even harder.

the main reason now is that my shoulder which i think i slightly injured during a reverse grip bench on the smith got this sharp pain out of nowhere last night while i was “behind the line” waiting for food at my job last night. like im just standing there and wham out of nowhere my shoulder starts killing me, its not specifically my shoulder though its like that bone between the shoulder and traps. shit sucks, i cant even keep my left trap relaxed or it starts hurtin again. buncha bullshit.

plus i just wanna be cool like the pros and take lots of steroids and painkillers.

*** when i said alieving pain while staying withen the condition of bodybuilding i meant that they dont cause any loss of muscle or prevent muscle recovery/ protein synthesis.

Acetaminophen is hard on the liver, not the stomach.

Vicodin was a lifesaver for the pain when I tore my piriformis. IB alone couldn’t touch it. But given that an effective dose of vicodin knocks me out for a long time, I wouldn’t use it for everyday aches and pains. Plus some of the doctors freak out when you want a refill.

Fair enough andersons… I didn’t mean it was ineffective, just that I have never needed it for legitimate reasons; ie. it shouldn’t be used for lifting soreness.
